An up north retreat only 90 minutes from Minneapolis. Located on beautiful Sand Lake in Moose Lake, MN. Large level yard with beautiful views of the lake. The lake is over 500 acres with great fishing and even a golf course you can take your boat to. Perfect for families, swimming and boating. Watching the sunset from the dock is amazing. Bring your ATV's or bikes and enjoy miles and miles of trails.
The cabin was pretty much as described on the web site. The cabin was supplied with the essentials such as cleaning supplies, utensils, etc but it wasn't prepared very well for us. The TV and heater did not work. After a couple of hours I got the TV working but never could get the heater to fire up and the tempurature was in the 50's in the evening. The cabin could have used a cleaning before we got there.
I enjoyed sitting on the private dock especially during the evening hours.
Overall we enjoyed our time there as did our yellow lab who pretty much lived in the lake.
The price matches the property. This is a nice small cabin. It was fine for one couple. There is no privacy between the two bedrooms, so if you have more people, make sure you're cool with that. The cabin was surface cleaned, but could use a good scrub in the fridge & shower. The lake is great!!! You can rent a boat from a resort on the lake, which I suggest if you don't have your own. The town of Moose Lake is sadly lacking in things to do if the weather doesn't cooperate. Nice private lot with a fire pit. Bring your own outdoor chairs for campfire. Overall a decent deal for the price.
This was the second time we stayed here. Last was June 2015.
You have the cabin to yourself and it feels safe in the community. They also allow pets and are family-friendly with a second bedroom containing bunk beds and a queen bed. The front bedroom has a king-size bed and a beautiful view of the lake.
The full kitchen has a big fridge and full-size oven, but it isn't yet finished. It's exactly the same as last year with the light fixture, switch and plug still in the drawer with a receipt dated June of 2015. There are just boxes with wires where they should go. It's probably 30 minutes worth of work, so it sure would be nice if they could get them in. I'd do it for a free night :-).
It has a small dining space inside, a tea table on the deck and picnic table outside by the fire pit, which was amply supplied with firewood. There is also a charcoal grill outside and grilling utensils inside.
The living room is comfortable wnd they have good wifi and a flat screen t.v. with cable for down time. The Windows give a nice breeze off the lake (no air conditioning, but not really needed there) but unfortunately the big picture window with a view to the lake has moisture between the panes giving a rather foggy view.
There is a nice dock to sit on, fish from (though the vegetation is thick in August), or bring your own boat to. I didn't swim this time, but I saw others in the water.
The bathroom is small and the tub surround was dirty. I was able to wipe away some of the buildup with toilet tissue, so it's not just staining from the water, which can sometimes happen in rustic homes. I could tell that the carpet had been spot cleaned, though. There were cobwebs, but I know how hard it it to keep up with them this time of year, so I wasn't bothered by them.
I enjoyed my stay, and would come back again. However, the following would be nice: a clean tub area and provision of towels, hand towels and washcloths. I understand there are life events, but I would get the fixtures installed in the kitchen, and finish trimming it up. Some lawn chairs would be wonderful, and if you can manage a more substantial upgrade, replace the picture window with the main view to the lake.
A nice private, rustic getaway that could use a few simple upgrades.
This was our 3rd time staying at this property and we enjoy it more each time. The owner continues to make upgrades to the cabin amenities so it gets better and better. The location is great, on the lake with a nice big yard. Beds are great, kitchen appliances are modern, there is a grill to use and a back porch to sit on. There was a fire pit and wood, and a picnic table. My husband fished off the dock and the water is clear. All things considered, it's paradise!
The cabin was cozy and relatively clean. The bed linens felt freshly laundered, the kitchen had everything we needed, the living room was comfortable with plenty of furniture, the bathroom met our needs. I was glad someone mentioned bringing our own fans because we did use them in the bedrooms upstairs. It was really nice having our own dock to spend time on whenever we wanted. We so appreciated being able to bring our dog as he is a member of our family.
Sand lake in Moose Lake is a beautiful and clean lake.
