Beautiful Mountain Escape!

  • 5 of 5

An absolutely beautiful, modern home with every amenity, but surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery and views! I couldn’t ask for more from a mountain getaway. Absolute serenity. You do not realize how loud and bright your surroundings are until you spend some time in this tranquil environment, high in the mountains above Ashland. It is conveniently centered between a variety of options. Shopping and a Show in the always fun town of Ashland. Boating on Lake of the Woods (summer) Snowmobiling in the winter. Quick trip to the majestic Crater Lake. We loved our stay! Thank you!

Lovely mountain retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 adults & 2 children had a truly wonderful time on our vacation to the Ashland area. This home is extremely comfortable, clean, & well-appointed, in every regard. Our host, Dennis, was thoughtful of our questions and needs, in advance of our stay, having communicated w/ him on several occasions in prompt replies to emails through the VRBO website. Warning to those who are internet dependent...1-2 bars of service is all you'll get, not enough for NetFlix, or some news services, on-line. From this location we made a full day trip to Crater Lake, an hour's ride from here. Crater Lake was spectacular, & we capped the day w/ an early dinner at the beautiful, historic Lodge there, back in time to be home before dark. We were a 10 minute ride from Lake of the Woods Resort where we had dinner twice, and saw the 3rd of July fireworks, where there was every kind of water sports to be had on the beautiful lake there. July 4th parade in Ashland was one of the best I've seen, and we frequently travel on that weekend & have seen many. Ashland is one of the most delightful places we've ever visited. The Shakespeare Festival is not to be missed!! Just do it. You'll thank yourself for buying tickets to see one of the company's many performances during their summer festival. With kids, or w/o, the ScienceWorks museum is a not-to-be-missed, one of a kind, hands-on experience that will unexpectedly delight everyone in the family. Whitewater rafting with the family was a blast, on beautiful rivers, with up to grade-4 waterfalls, & knowledgable guides. Ashland's people are open and kind. The restaurants served wonderfully crafted, prepared meals, (& we are from Chicago with high-expectations)! We hiked in the area on Grizzly, to Eagle Point, which is about 30 minutes from the house, through woodlands, valleys, and fields of wildflowers, to gather in vistas at the point of Cascades up and down the state, in some of the loveliest hiking I have done. My only complaint about staying at this beautiful home was its distance from Ashland, a good 45 minute ride on twisting, narrow, switchbacks, not for the faint-of-heart at night. We made two such trips after nightfall, & it is pitch-black out there, a bit scary to drive, and watching for deer. However, during the day you are richly rewarded w/ spectacular pristine views of the mountains, fields, farms & glens of the area, and we stopped on the side of the road to take it all in on several occasions. 5 stars!
