Large 1 bedroom with ocean views

This 3rd floor Morning Street weekly or monthly rental is located 4 houses away from Portland's waterfront park, the Eastern Promenade. One private bedroom with large Velux window opens up to Casco Bay. The remainder of the apartment is large and open with beautiful hardwood floors and numerous windows looking out to the Eastern Promenade and water. Skylights over the living room area let additional natural light into the space. Large bathroom with oversize shower. Futon (double) in the living space provides room for guests. In-unit washer/dryer. Private optional roof deck. Flat screen TV and Internet WiFi. Air conditioned in summer months. Lots of space. Original artwork throughout the unit. Beautiful. Rent for multiple weeks for a better rate. Close to aclaimed restaurants, trails, and highway. Pet friendly.

About Colleen Bedard

I am a New Englander and have lived in the Portland area off and on for 25 years. I am now settled here and wouldn't live anywhere else but Munjoy Hill. It is truly special to hear fog horns, the train, and the tug boats hard at work in the harbor. The sounds and the smells leave a lastly impression. In addition to being a Realtor, I am also an artist and founded the Society for East End Arts with a few fellow-artists almost 10 years ago. I love walking on the Eastern Promenade with my dog, Coali, where there is an off-leash area for her to run and socialize with the other Hill dogs.

Why Colleen Bedard chose Portland

This property is unique with its huge round window, roof deck, and bank of windows. I bought this property for myself and added a 3rd floor dormer which greatly expanded the usable living space on the 3rd floor. I have lived in this unit several times over the past 25 years. It's a great place to hang out.

What makes this apartment unique

When I saw this property, I had to have it--and so did several other people. I was in a multiple offer situation and was fortunate enough to be the chosen buyer. It's a comfortable house with terrific views. The private roof top deck--with its ladder access and step-through window--is probably my favorite spot to sit on a sunny day. (The roof deck can be challenging for some people to access because of the set-up.)

Lovely and bright!

The loft was wonderful to stay at! The place has lots of nice natural light, which we loved. If you don't sleep well though morning light, bring your eye shades like I did, and when you are ready to wake up, it's delightful to sit and enjoy with a cup of coffee. The kitchen is well appointed and the loft overall very comfortable. While it was warm while we visited, the AC was great and kept the loft nice and cool. It was a great place to stay especially for the 4th of July fireworks! Colleen was quick to respond and helpful with everything. She gave great recommendations for the neighborhood and we loved staying in her flat.

Great location, but hot, hot, hot.

My wife and I came to Portland for an extended weekend. We really liked that the apartment was in a quiet neighborhood and one block from a great park with an awesome view. The apartment was very open and lots of windows. It really was very appealing. The apartment had a very small air conditioner which did not keep the apartment cool. We rented bikes for the weekend as the city is very easy to get around and there are great bike trails. Hiltop coffee was very close. Also a neat market and a couple of very nice restaurants (Front Porch and Blue Spoon) were close. Lolita's was a great place for an end of night cocktail. We would love to stay here again, but only in spring or fall or when an appropriate cooling system is put in for the summer.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. The unseasonable heat caught us by surprise, so I'm sorry that the unit was hot during your visit. Air conditioners are installed around July 1, and this unit has 3 air conditioners in the summer. (We were able to install one quickly when we saw the upcoming weather, and it sounds like this didn't do the trick. Two days prior we had been wearing coats!) Maine weather can be hard to predict, and in the future we'll install air conditioners earlier so that guests can heat or cool as needed. Thanks again.

Great summer getaway!

Great location, perfect getaway

Nice, clean 3rd floor apartment... LOTS of windows so if you need complete darkness to sleep, this is not the place for you. However, we loved the natural light and the views of the water. The rooftop "deck" is a bit misleading, but a cool feature for those who are looking for a good view with a unique twist. The best part of this place was the location. Every morning we walked to hilltop coffee (7 min walk) and then walked down to the promenade for sweeping views of Casco Bay. Don't miss the trail that runs at the bottom of the hill along the water! Although it is a bit of a walk to downtown... It is possible. For food nearby, we enjoyed the local restaurants, The Front Room and Otto Pizza. The only negatives I found were that the air conditioning sometimes struggled to keep the place cool on a warm, sunny day and we had to park a bit far down the street one night when we got home. The place really is charming though.. A perfect last minute getaway for us!

Plenty of space and light.

This apartment is huge and filled with natural light. The space is unique (as I like to think I am) and far removed (read:superior) to cookie-cutter, big-box hotel chains. It is within very easy walking distance of downtown, well furnished, quiet, and has a gigantic squeaky clean bathroom. While deck provides a beautiful view - it truly is just for the intrepid. Carrying a pizza and a beer up the ladder would be death defying - and more death defying would be the trip down the ladder after a drink or two. That said - the apartment is still close to perfect for individuals who like to spread out and appreciate waking up to sunrise. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Munjoy Hill has become one of the most desirable locations to live and vacation in Maine's largest city. This is a friendly and eclectic neighborhood with a mix of long-time residents and newcomers alike. The neighborhood is popular because of its proximity to the 2 acre Eastern Promenade Park, local restaurants, and shops. It is an easy walk to the coffee shop and Rosemont Market, where you will find fresh produce, meats, cheeses and wines.

Walk or bike to the Casco Bay Ferry and spend a few hours or the day on one of the 'calendar islands' in Casco Bay. SailMaine offers the use of their boats to experienced boaters for a small fee or take lessons from them and learn to sail.

Munjoy Hill has a vibrant artist community. The Society for East End Arts (SEA) holds 2 annual events--a holiday sale in December and open studio tour in June. Many artists also open their studios during Portland's First Friday Artwalk each month.

Portland is a foodie town. We have so much wonderful food to choose from. Visit the highly acclaimed Farmer's Market for locally raised fruits, vegetables and even meats. Wondering where to eat out tonight? The choices of great food are endless. Walk to the Front Room, the Blue Spoon or Bar Lola on Munjoy Hill. For a little more exercise before your meal, take the East End trail into downtown Portland's Old Port to dine at any one of many delicious restaurants. Food carts are new to Portland, and we are loving these new additions to our food scene.

Feel like heading to the beach? We are 20 minutes to the lovely beaches in Cape Elizabeth and Scarborough. Head down to the East End Beach to launch your kayak, paddleboard, or windsurfer.

In the summer, catch an outdoor concert or a movie. As a small city, Portland offers everything from museums to galleries to fine dining. We're casual. There are not too many where shorts or jeans are not the wardrobe of choice!
