Love this cozy lake rental! Had a great time!
Loved our get-away weekend
We enjoyed our stay very much. It was relaxing - which is what we needed - and quiet. One recommendation - if you are wanting to watch TV, bring videos. I was glad for the peacefulness though. No computers...no calls from the office... read a book, fished, visited antique shops, and a nice little farmers market. The house had everything we needed and then some. Thank you for a great weekend!
We had a wonderful time. The owners are accessible and quick to respond to questions. We brought our Jon boat to fishing the lake and it was easy putting it in the lake. Fishing from the pier was a lot of fun. We grilled on the back deck. We definitely want to return.
Shaded Backyard & Fishing Dock to beat the Texas Heat!
We had a great time at this property. We had asked ahead of time if we could fish from the private dock with reasonable expectations of catching a fish or if a boat was necessary to catch fish at Lake Holbrook. Chris replied promptly and let us know that it was possible to catch fish from the dock, and CATCH FISH WE DID! We enjoyed the shaded backyard and the covered dock, even during the Texas summer afternoon heat. We came prepared with insect repellant which I would recommend doing.
The area is quiet and peaceful, so we enjoyed staying outside most of the time. There wasn't a whole lot to do inside the house. We didn't bring our usual cards and dominoes and such. We kind of wished we had because this house did not provide such things. There were plenty of books to choose from, however. The XBox DVD system worked well but I would recommend bringing some of your favorite DVDs if you want anything other than children's movies. I was willing to try the "Just Dance" games, but my husband wasn't really into that. ;-)
All appliances, AC, and showers worked well. Beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was well-stocked with cooking and eating paraphenalia, but there was none of the ordinary food staples available like salt & pepper, coffee, foil, etc. . . . Likewise, the bathrooms had plenty of towels & toilet paper, but no shampoo, conditioner, lotions, blow dryers, etc. . . . This is not a big deal since everyone has his or her own preferences, but you do need to know ahead of time to pack these items. Having not done so, it was good to discover a trip to Mineola's Walmart or Brookshire's only took about 6-8 minutes from the lake. FYI--Reliable cell service is about that far away too. It was kind of hit or miss around the property itself.
Bottom line . . . we'll return for the fishing set-up, but we will plan a little differently next time. Thank you, Chris and Monica, for allowing us to stay in your lake house!
Nice, spacious home with a great boat dock to fish from on Lake Holbrook.
This home is on a great piece of property on Lake Holbrook. The area is covered by beautiful hardwood forest. The property has been landscaped carefully. The air conditioning works great. The home is very comfortable - really very ideal to go play in the lake and then run back to the house to cool off and eat. The beds are not luxurious, but do work. There's no WiFi and our coverage with Verizon was spotty, but who wants to stare at their cellphone at a lake house? We saw lots of wildlife: many different songbirds, nutria, catfish, black bass, red eared perch, diamond backed water snake (non-poisonous), blue heron, eagle, tree frogs, bullfrogs and the like.
Overall, we loved it. You will too...
Nice location and friendly owners
Overall we enjoyed our stay. We were disappointed with the tv in the living room not having a remote so that we could at least change the channel and no cable.
The outdoor patio needed to be cleaned as well and looked like it had not been used in a while.
The inside of the house was well taken care of and very clean.
The dock was nice but the power to the fan and lights on the dock didn’t work so night fishing was a challange.
Even with the few negatives this is a good place to stay with very friendly owners.
