Thank you for your interest in my apartment. The six unit building was completely renovated down to the studs a few years ago. Everything is like new. You get the charm of an original 1908 San Francisco walk up with all the modern conveniences like an tank-less water heater and an in-unit washer/dryer. My unit is on the top (third) floor. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and a bay window with a built in bench from which there are beautiful views of Russian Hill and a quaint little alley reminiscent of the left bank of Paris. The second bedroom has a full size bunk bed and twin trundle that can sleep up to 4 adults and 1 child. All of the bedding, linens, mattresses and pillows are brand new with hypoallergenic and waterproof coverings. Everything is professionally cleaned and sanitized between guests.

The living area features a large comfortable sectional with views of Coit Tower and a full entertainment system that including a 55” flat screen TV with HBO and Showtime, CD player, DVD/Blue Ray player and auxiliary input for iPhone/iPad or other MP3 device. The large, open kitchen has a gas Bertazzoni range and a side-by-side refrigerator with an ice maker. The kitchen is stocked with basic essentials like spices, condiments and coffee so you can make meals at home without having to purchase things that won’t get used up. There is a large counter height dining table on which to enjoy family style meals.

The apartment is equipped with a portacrib, a child's convertible car seat, and stroller if you have a little one.

If you don’t feel like cooking there are literally hundreds of restaurants that will deliver right to the door.

Perhaps the best feature of the apartment is the spectacular private roof deck. With 360 degree views including Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, Coit Tower and the Transamerica Building, you feel like you are on top of the world. The roof deck features a high quality sound system, a dream BBQ, a commercial propane heater and a fire table so you can enjoy the deck even on chilly evenings.

North Beach is one of the best places to stay for a San Francisco vacation. It is walking distance to many of the major tourists attractions like Cable Cars, Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square, Chinatown and Lombard Street. And North Beach is a foodie's dream come true with literally hundreds of restaurants and bars including Michelin star-rated Gary Danko’s and the famous 'Saloon' where Tommy Castro recorded his first album.

If you want to venture out of North Beach there are many options for public transportation. The famous Mason/Powell Cable Car and Muni stops are only 1 block away. The beautiful F-Line - impeccably restored vintage trains from around the world (I love the one from Milan) is 4 blocks away. Cabs are plentiful and easily hailed on the street or by phone.

Why Ralph Vonder Haar chose San Francisco

North Beach is one of the best places to stay San Francisco. It is walking distance to many of the major tourists attractions and it is a foodie's dream come true! North Beach also has a wonderful local culture. Staying in our apartment instead of a tourist hotel down the street you can get the best of both worlds. Right around the corner is Sweeties Art Bar which is generally considered the 'Cheers' of North Beach. The diverse group of regulars range from sailors in their 20's to professionals in their 40's and 50's to retirees. Everyone knows everyone yet newcomers can make friends instantly. There is a list of our other favorite little neighborhood places in the apartment as well.

What makes this apartment unique

The best feature of this apartment is the spectacular roof deck. With 360 views including Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, Coit Tower and the Transamerica Building, you feel like you are on top of the world. Throw in the high quality sound system, a dream BBQ and a glowing fire table and it becomes a little slice of heaven. As you relax with a glass of wine you can hear the clang of cable cars in the distance, the faint bark of sea lions at Pier 39, the forlorn call of the fog horns and the ringing of the church bells at St. Peter and Paul's.

We had a great time in SF and the apartment was the perfect base from which to explore the city.  Less than 10 minutes’ walk to Fisherman’s Warf, Coit Tower and Alcatraz ferry boats.  Cable car starts up Powell Street one block away.  Lots of locally-owned restaurants and bars nearby.  Two cafes within a block.  Trader Joes and Safeway within two blocks.  It is an exceptionally convenient location for a visit.



The apartment itself is outstanding.  The kitchen is like new and fully stocked with dishes, pots, pans and utensils.  Our family of four enjoyed hanging out and enjoying a leisurely breakfast in the apartment and not having to dress and head outside.  The bedrooms are nice with plenty of closet/storage space – great views from the master bedroom.  Beds/linens/pillows were fine.  While the second bedroom has bunk beds, they are large double beds and have quality mattresses.  They are not shaky, dorm-type bunk beds. As with the rest of the unit, the bath was quite updated and had plenty of storage space along with ample towels. 



Of course, the rooftop deck is spectacular. Even on chilly days we ventured to the roof for morning coffee beside the fire.  The panorama of the city is quite stunning. 



We rented a car during the duration of our stay.  While it is certainly not necessary (or recommended) to have a car, parking was not an issue while we were there.  I found a spot within one block every time.  That said, it’s a pain to park as those without a permit must move every two hours (and in SF “move” means at least one block) 8am - 8pm and they have street sweeping hours as well.  Sunday is exempt.  Parking is available at the Safeway for $30/day which we used part of the time.



Ryan (owner’s son – the owner was out of town) was helpful and responded very quickly to any inquiry.  Overall, it was a great experience renting 2250 Mason and we hope to do it again sometime.

A Wonderful Experience

We spent Memorial Day 2017 weekend here and we had a wonderful time. Everything was exactly as shown in the photos. We enjoyed the rooftop deck as well as the well-equipped kitchen. We loved the fact that you could easily walk to numerous attractions as well as to public transport. The owner was helpful yet unobtrusive. I couldn't imagine a better place to stay in San Francisco than this.

Fabulous Location

My family of 5 consisting of 2 adults and 3 children stayed in the property. Our host Ralph communicated several times before our trip giving us very helpful information and tips for our stay. Ralph meet us downstairs (Note the unit is up 5 sets of stairs and we had no problems carrying our 7 weeks worth of luggage up but we were prepared and aware of the stairs before we arrived) the home has a large kitchen lounge area with everything we needed. The main bed was comfortable with plenty of cupboard space, the second bedroom accommodated our 3 children with the double size bunks and pull out trundle. There is no blind/curtain in this bedroom (privacy is not a problem) however light does enter the room during the evening which did not bother my children or effect their sleep at all. The bathroom/ laundry were tight but clean with quality linen and some body wash and shampoos supplied. On Ralph's suggestion we made the effort to sit on the roof deck with our coffee and watch the sunrise which is fabulous with views around including out to the bay. Great restuarant's and coffee close by and short walk to Pier 39 area, trolley cars, Fishermans Wharf, Alcatraz tours, Lombard St and much more.

Loved it!

This apartment was perfect for us - quiet, lovely furnishings and very convenient to the restaurants of North Beach. The boys loved the bunk beds. Ralph was a fantastic host and went above and beyond to help us. Our luggage didn't arrive until two full days after we did and Ralph lent us a phone charger and land line phone and made sure someone in the building was home during the day in case our luggage was delivered when we were out. Without Ralph's assistance our time in San Francisco would have been a disaster. Thanks again Ralph and if we are ever in SF again we will be sure to stay!

Absolutely great apartment in a wonderful location. Walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf, North Beach, Lombard Street etc. Lots of neighborhood restaurants in Little Italy to choose from, all within ten minutes walk.

Apartment was well equipped with everything that you could possibly need. Owner was always available, if needed.

Highly recommended!!!

Amazing apartment and location - stay here!

We visited in October, 2015, and loved the apartment and location. Ralph was a generous and helpful host. This trip could not have been better. The apartment has everything you could ever need in a home away from home. We loved the rooftop deck and spent a lot of time up there taking in the views. Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge, Coit Tower and Saints Peter and Paul Church are all within view. The location was perfect - we walked to Fisherman's Wharf, the Pier for Alcatraz, and the cable car line. When we go back to San Francisco, we'd love to stay here again.

Perfect apartment & location

Just the perfect place to rent from start to finish.

The owners met us punctually & fully explained how to use all the high-spec appliances/gadgets. The apartment has been finished to a very high standard; top-end kitchen, comfortable beds & plenty of space. The roof-top deck with fire-pit was amazing. During our stay, nothing was too much trouble e.g. the hairdryer broke & the owners' immediately replaced it with their own & then bought a new one. The local restuarant recommendations were fantastic. It's a great base from which to explore the city; close to tourist attractions yet still in a quiet part of North Beach.
