About Preston or Florence Walklet

We spent a lot of weekends at Kiawah with our family and friends during the 10 years we lived in Charlotte NC.

Now that we are in Minnesota., we love coming back to the ocean, the wildlife and to beautiful Charleston.

Preston or Florence Walklet purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Preston or Florence Walklet chose Kiawah Island

It is a great location within a quiet neighborhood, and close enough to the beach to hear the surf at night, while convenient to all the amenities.

Wonderful cottage!

  • 4 of 5

I loved our stay at this cottage. It has a lovely screened porch and it's a short 5 minute walk to the beach. The owner is very responsive and very nice. This cottage had all the necessities we needed to cook meals for our family. There are no tv's in the bedrooms which is perfect for me because I didn't want the kids hanging out in their room watching tv. We have two teenagers and a 2year old in our family. Helps with the family time. Overall a very nice, clean cottage. The only downfall for me was the beds. The beds are very firm and were very uncomfortable for 3 of the adults. However my daughter-in-law loved the bed. She said her bed was the most comfortable bed she'd ever slept in. So I guess it just depends on your preference.

Overall, I would highly recommend this cottage for the accommodations and also the customer service with the owner and Wyndham Vacations staff at Freshfields. Both were exceptional.

Very comfortable and relaxing!

Perfect space for our group of 6. Convenient to beach and pool! Easy drive to Charleston and other attractions. Make sure to rent bikes while there. We had some great rides. Beach chairs/boogie boards on property were a hit with the kids.

Needs Updating but Close to the Beach

  • 2 of 5

My family (four adults, three little kids) stayed in this property in late July. I chose it because the reviews were uniformly good. On the positive side, it's walking distance to the beach which is the main selling point. There is also access to the pool. Unfortunately, when we arrived housekeeping hadn't properly cleaned the cottage and there was sand, broken glass and hair everywhere. It was just gross. The deck was full of cigarette butts and pine needles. We called housekeeping and to their credit, they cleaned it up right away. The kitchen was functional. Bed rooms were serviceable. My biggest issue is that the unit needs a lot of maintenance and some upgrading. Unlike some of the other surrounding cottages, it looks like the owners haven't put much into keeping the property up to date. Especially the outside. It truly looks like a rental. There are loose boards on the deck and the rails are wobbly. Outdoor shower spigot on the second floor was broken. Inside there was a nice flat screen but attached was a VHS (!!!?) player rather than DVD player (believe me, you need this for the kiddos during the afternoon storms). WiFi signal was very weak which in 2015 when most people have multiple devices is just unheard of. We also found a few dead/dying roaches the first two days we were there. I can say the owners were helpful and responsive. We've been coming to the Kiawah/Seabrook Island area for six years and this was my least favorite rental. It just didn't meet my expectations compared to other places I've rented in the area. The property is way over due for a makeover and the decking needs to be replaced and repainted. It just needs a good sprucing up. In short, if you aren't too picky about your surroundings and want a spot is close to the beach with pool access, this may fit the bill for you. But if you are discerning hoping for an up-to-date, immaculately maintained cottage, look around a bit more.

Owner's Response: We are always very concerned whenever there is a complaint, and do everything we can to address concerns raised by our guests. 1. Cleaning service is provided to us by Wyndham and we rarely have any issues with their service. That said, Wyndham was notified when these guests brought the problem to our attention, and the issue was resolved as noted in the posted review 2. Appearance - Most of the villas in Sparrow Pond were built in the 1970's, including ours. All of them require repairs and upkeep due to sun, salt and moisture. The deck is power washed, bleached and loose boards secured with stainless steel screws every year. 3. Outdoor shower spigot on the second floor was broken - No, it is disconnected and there is an enclosed outdoor shower on the lower level per the owner instruction summary. 4. VHS vs. DVD - There is both a DVD player and a VHS , unless someone has taken the DVD player home. 5. WiFi signal - Internet service is provided by AT&T and none of our previous guests have complained about the strength of the signal and I have not had any issues with access when I am there with my kids who are constantly connected. 6. Dead roaches "Palmetto bugs" - I wish we could say there aren't any but anyone familiar with the "Low Country" knows better. The property is inspected and treated regularly to control them. For someone who has visited the area for the past 6 years I am surprised by this comment. 7. Owners - helpful and responsive - We try to be for all our guests. 8. Sprucing up - We love our place and reinvest in it every year. This year it was a new roof and we are very happy with the results.
