We have been Caribbean lovers since we first took our children there in the early ‘80’s instead of Disneyland. Neither of our children or we have never made it to Disneyland, but we’ve visited just about every island in the beautiful Caribbean. We have been looking the last few years and had narrowed it down to Antigua and one other island. Antigua won hands down! It was the fabulous beaches, the overly friendly Antiguans, the spectacular views, the security of one of the lowest crime rates, the value of the restaurants and handmade purchases, the cleanliness of the island and homely feel of the little towns and villages, the golf courses and the endless activities available…you know where we’re going, we found paradise! A ton of research ensued and endless search for the dream villa ended in Sugar Ridge. Our second trip with in six months we had knew we found home at Villa Sunset and you will too. Certainly the best and most spectacular views of any villa we inspected!
Marc Garvey purchased this villa in 2013
One of the best points of it all is location, location, and location. Jolly Harbor has it all and it’s at the bottom of the hill. We have stayed in different areas of the island and by far Jolly Harbor takes the cake. Beaches, restaurants, endless water sports, grocery and liquor stores, banks, rental cars, cafes, and nightlife are only a minute away.
Sugar Ridge is a luxury boutique hotel at our beck and call, which was a big selling point for us. You wouldn’t know it’s right next to the villa, but the use of the fitness center, excellent restaurants and facilities are just about a 5-minute walk or 2-minute drive away make for convenience and ease during your vacation. Security 24 hours, paved roads and the elegance of it all, especially our Antiguan friends, makes you feel like you’re someone special.
There is so much to love about Villa Sunset. It all starts and ends with the beautiful view from the house onto jolly harbor and the surrounding beaches and mountains. Nothing beats laying back with a Wadadli (local beer) or some English Harbour (local rum) and watching the sunset. There are also many things to do in Antigua including nearby beaches and boat tours leaving from jolly harbor. The setup of the house is great. The three rooms are spacious and private, and have great views. The common space and kitchen are well-equipped. The epicurean supermarket is also just down the hill and has everything you need for home-cooked meals. The management company's personnel was very helpful and courteous, particularly a gentleman named Bancroft. Ditto for the reception people at the Sugar Ridge hotel.
Marc & the team very responsive to questions. Everything you could want is supplied at the villa. The views are amazing. The description is spot on. We had a great vacation.
Simply put, Villa Sunset is truly amazing. For my trip to Antigua I was looking for someplace special and Villa Sunset did not disappoint. From the very beginning the process was smooth. Marc made himself available to answer any questions I had before and after booking and offered great suggestions on entertainment and dining. From our conversations I could tell that he loved and took great pride in his property so I was confident that the villa would meet my expectations. Suffice it to say, it far exceeded them.
From the moment we arrived outside the security gate I was impressed. The bright pink flowers framing the entrance provided a warm welcome. Once we got inside and walked up to the main level, we were met with a view that took our breath away. From Villa Sunset we had beautiful, clear views of Jolly Harbour and the Caribbean Sea and the islands in the distance.
Whether you're talking about the layout, the decor, or the furnishings, inside was equally as impressive. The bedroom and living areas were designed for serenity and relaxation. I always fell asleep immediately after getting into the king-sized bed because it was so comfortable. We had the option of retreating to our own space if wanted privacy or coming together if we wanted to hang out with each other since the bedrooms were separated from each other and there were a number of sitting areas around the villa. The kitchen had state of the art stainless steel appliances had anything we could ever need to cook with. We used the outdoor grill almost every night to cook up dinner that we almost always ate by the pool.
Day or night, we never got tired of sitting outside and looking at the views or the sunset. The large floor to ceiling retractable glass doors & screens brought the inside and outside together. We could enjoy the views from inside and there was always a breeze flowing through the villa. We were easily able to entertain a good amount of people and our guests never wanted to leave. It was just a short drive to stores and pristine beaches. I can't say enough about how much we loved Villa Sunset and without a doubt when I return to Antigua that is where I'll be staying!
Stunning views of Jolly Harbour and the Carribean Sea everyday you wake up and go to bed at Villa Sunset. Owner was 100 percent attentive to our questions and fully accessible at any time. Car rental is a must to travel to the nearby beaches and down into town. Our family will carry wonderful memories of our 2016 summer vacation in Antigua and the time we spent in the pool watching the sun go down at Villa Sunset.
Everything you could want - great location overlooking Jolly Harbor which has lots of restaurants & grocery shopping as well as beach & activities. Don't miss Dennis Beach Bar, Galleon Beach for snorkeling sunken wreck, Carmichael's, hiking the rainforest with Nick' Hiking Heights treks, Sugar Ridge Resort pool & gym - lots to do and the villa has the best amenities including beach chairs, snorkel fins, infinity pool, kitchen utensils, etc - the property manager Ebby was extremely helpful too.
Villa Sunset is just as the pictures and the description outline--and then some!!! When you book this house, you will get the most stunning views every hour of the day. The outdoor area is where you will live, sipping coffee in the morning overlooking Jolly Harbor Marina and the beautiful blue waters of the Caribbean, and in the evening, it is perfect for a glass of scotch or a bottle of wine as you watch the sunset. You are a quick 30 minutes from the airport and we recommend a private airport transfer. There is a local car rental agency that will have your car delivered to your house, and the Villa management company did grocery shopping so that when we arrived we had snacks and cold beverages right away. They also arranged a deep sea fishing extravaganza that yielded us two wahoo, one mahi mahi, and a barracuda. The fish provided a delicious dinner for us that night with ceviche and grilled mahi mahi cooked right in the gourmet kitchen and on the wonderful grill. We dined on the patio under the stars overlooking the view. The guestrooms are like 5 star Hotel rooms, all private, connected by cute and intimate sitting areas to the main living space. So each couple actually has their own spa hotel room, and then can meet in the middle living area for the living and dining/cooking space. Even though we had only had two couples, it is ideal for 3 couples to enjoy the company or be completely private!! The bedding, and towels were very luxurious, and the housekeeping staff takes very good care of you throughout your stay with fresh flowers and fun towel swans!!! The walk in showers have multiple shower heads with views and breezes through the Caribbean shutters. There is a great grocery store close by, and you are within walking distance and driving distance to the best beaches in the world, and the best dining!!! Antigua has quickly become my favorite island experience as the island is manageable, very friendly, and is very relaxing. I highly recommend Half Moon bay for the best beach and snorkelling, and Jacqui O's for one of the most intimate and unique dining experiences on the beach!! Marc Garvey is an absolute pleasure to work with and is very quick in his response (and my 5,000 questions!). He and his wife have a real gem here on this beautiful island, and I am so thankful that they share it with travellers who like to experience the great life!! Thank you to the Garveys for a very memorable trip for my husband and I!!
You may never want to leave Villa Sunset but perhaps you venture out to explore what the island has to offer, Jolly Harbour is right across the street. The bustling Jolly Harbour Marina can take you on various boating excursions, scuba diving, snorkeling and sport fishing trips. There are beautiful beaches, shops, restaurants, and bars. The Marina complex even offers an 18-hole golf course, tennis and squash courts.
In Jolly Harbour is where you will find many fabulous restaurants, grocery shopping, pharmacy, banking, ice cream and coffee shops. Further down the road about 5-8 minutes you will find Darkwood beach, Turners beach, Valley Church beach, and Coco bay.
The capital of Antigua, St. John, is only a 10-minute drive away where you will find local markets of delicious food, restaurants and lots of shopping.
The airport is approximately a 20-minute drive from the villa.
You may want to explore the heritage of Antigua at Nelson Dockyard and stunning views from the local gathering at Shirley Heights on Sundays, furthermore, enjoy the excitement of Carnival, Cricket and Sailing week.
We love sailing and scuba diving. Morning walks on the beach searching for beach glass then stopping in some of the charming beach huts for a late lunch or early dinners, like at Jackie O’s. Exploring the island and ending up at Shirley Heights. Buying fresh fish or lobster at the marina 10 minutes down the road. Dark Wood beach, snorkeling the reefs right off the coastline or Turners beach and Jolly beach only minutes away. A special dinner at Sheer Rock, you’ll never forget. And not to mention cocktails at the local beach bars, all minutes from Sunset. Hang with the locals at weekly fish fries, or head to St. Johns for local markets abundant with fresh fruits and veggies. Feel like exploring, hop in your car and try dining at Blue Water, Le Bistro or Cecelia’s. Be casual at Cloggy’s or the Mad Mongoose after the beach or island trek. Or head back at Villa Sunset with a glass of wine with stunning panoramic views. These are some of our favorites. Enjoy!
