About Murray & Emma

we owned an all natural pet food store/boutique in Tallahassee, have 3 dogs that always share this house with us, and support pet adoption causes.

Murray & Emma purchased this house in 2013

Why Murray & Emma chose North West Florida

the most pet friendly beach in Florida, beautiful unspoilt beaches, quiet location.

We bought a place - sandy paws - to enjoy ourselves, spent a year renovating it to be comfortable and inviting. However it turned out that it was rented out so much to pet lovers that we couldn't find time to use it ourselves.

So when this smaller place became available we decided to buy it for ourselves and only periodically rent it to pet lovers. We want to share this wonderful place with other appreciating pet owners.

What makes this house unique

taking the dogs for an early morning romp on the beach, sipping cocktails whilst watching the fabulous sunsets.

Great Stay!

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for two couples and our dogs. We loved the quick and easy boardwalk aceess to the beach, the screened porch, and the fenced yard for our dogs! Plenty of parking and a nice outdoor shower. Beds were very comfortable and the sliding glass doors from our rooms a nice perk. We look forward to our next stay!

Best Beach Vaca EVER

  • 5 of 5

The house was so perfect and cleaner than my own house. Having owners that allow dogs I was a little worried but this was spick and span.

We had the best time on the beach and the screened in porch. Could not recommend this any higher, just the best.

Great dog friendly home!

  • 5 of 5

The home is great, comfortable and having a fenced yard gave us the ability to let the dogs safely play (supervised always!). The beach is a short walk on the boardwalk. Great location near the state park, and we used the bikes to explore the park.

Fantastic Stay!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Salty Paws and it won't be our last! Our weather this trip was not nearly as nice as our first... rainy/stormy for 4 of the days--though none were a 100% washout, we made it to the beach each day even if it was windy/chilly/cloudy with really rough surf (for the gulf). We could still read on the beach and it actually worked out okay because the dogs (three of them) could spend hours with us on the beach hanging out when they normally can't do that during the middle of the day. We probably spent MORE time on the beach this time around because it wasn't full sun... it just was not as nice sitting on the beach.

The house had a new fridge this year and we LOVE the ice/water in the door option! We also love, as always, having dog beds already at the house so we don't have to pack those bulky items--our dogs really loved the beds... even though they had the option of the couch, they often chose the beds instead! We don't require much in the kitchen, but it was well-stocked! We did have a day without cable/wi-fi/phone but thanks to the instructions we were able to contact the company and found out it was a total outage in the area.

We also could see (and feel) that a lot of the boardwalk had been replaced since our visit last May! Much of the walkway had new boards and we could feel that at least one section had support beams replaced or added. It was much less wobbly this year and was much nicer to walk on! Thank you!!

We always enjoy the food in Port St. Joe and visit the dog-friendly patios at Provision and KrazyFish Grille at least once each (we love supporting dog-friendly restaurants!). We'll be back again!

Owner's Response: So glad you had a great time even with sub par weather, and thank you for being a return guest. We try to keep the boardwalk up and running, unfortunately it belongs to the community and most are loathe to put much effort into maintenance, but rest assured we'll do our best to keep it useable.

Loved the uncrowded sandy beach! Great house too!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to the Florida Panhandle and Cape San Blas. The beautiful white sand beach is just a 1/4 mile down the boardwalk. We're small-town Lake Superior people, so we loved the sparsely-populated, sandy beach!

Our hosts, Murray and Emma, were a pleasure to work with and to visit with in person. The screen porch and fenced yard were peaceful, private, and perfect for us and our dog. The interior of the house is nicely laid out, with the two bedrooms & baths separated by the common living space and easy to clean laminate floors throughout. It is nicely decorated in a very beachy colors and theme! The kitchen was well-stocked with dishes, utensils, pots/pans, etc. This dog-friendly house even had dog beds and dog bowls!

Every day, we walked or ran on the beach and biked on the Loggerhead Run Bike Trail. We kayaked in the crystal clear water of the Bay and in the Gulf, where we enjoyed the antics of dolphins.

Late in the afternoon, we were back in the screen porch enjoying cocktail hour, until it was time to go back to the beach to watch the sun set.

Almost every night, we fell asleep with the patio door cracked open, listening to the waves on the shore.

Our absolutely favorite restaurant for lunch or dinner was Provisions in Port St Joe, where the food was superb! For Happy Hour on the Cape, Scallop RePUBlic, and in Port St Joe, the Thirsty Goat at the Port Inn. We drove to Apalachicola a few times for a craft brew at the Oyster Bay Brewing Company.

Awesome relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Salty Paws! House had everything we needed, and was less than a 5 minute walk on the walkway to the beautiful quiet beach. Having the fenced yard was perfect for our dog who is used to spending lots of time outdoors in our fenced yard at home. The bed was really comfortable as well. We made use of the bicycles at the house for a quick ride to the state park. This was our first visit to Cape San Blas but I think we will be back for sure!

Nearest Beach
200 Metres
Cape san blas
Car: recommended

This area is known as the forgotten coast, it is ideal for quiet beach activities such as swimming, walking, beach combing etc. Cape San Blas is renowned as a dog friendly beach. There is an 8 mile bike/running track on the cape and the State park has all the activities associated with other State parks.
