Overview

About the property

3 bedroom, 2 bath - large family room and gorgeous kitchen

Tree Bear’s Hideaway, also read about us at: TreeBearsHideaway.com, has only recently been made available as a vacation rental for the first time. For 35 years, Tree Bear's was an immaculately cared for full time family home. And that love and care is what makes Tree Bear’s special among family retreats. It’s what you really want for your family – clean, beautiful, inviting, warm and wonderful. You will feel like you are in your very own mountain home.

We had long wanted a home in beautiful Big Bear, California. And we searched many months through many listings to find the right home. We wanted quality. We wanted beauty. We wanted a home that felt like we had always lived there. In 2012, our dream came true when we found this gem after such a long summer and fall of searching. It was love at first sight. We loved the beautiful large park-like yard with its elegant landscaping. The spacious kitchen with its granite counter tops and luxury range were eye popping. Breakfast on the deck. Dinners around the large dining table. Being with family and friends as we watched the fireplace crackle in the spacious living room. Four seasons of ever changing views through the glass walls. And finally, curling up in the wonderful beds after a long day on the slopes or at the lake. These were the experiences that made Tree Bear’s special, and we hope you will enjoy being here as much as we do.

We can’t say it enough. We LOVE the setting. When you are here you are truly in a very private and peaceful setting with lots of space to entertain on the wrap around deck, cook outdoors on the gas BBQ, soak in the hot tub under the trees. The lot is both sloped and terraced, fully landscaped with lawns, paths and amazing trees, so it's great for either sunbathing, reading a book, or your own private snow sledding.

You can enter thru a door that opens into the garage, which makes a great mud room in the winter, lots of space for storing your gear, and here you will find the washer and dryer.

Up the stairs on the next level are the living/dining rooms, kitchen, and 1 bedroom with full bath. With a south facing exposure, and 3 sliding glass doors, this level is very bright and airy. It has the perfect angle for dining as the sun sets thru the trees. The living room has a huge cozy couch, which can easily seat a crowd, just in front of the large wood burning fireplace and 50' flat screen with surround sound. Wireless internet, cable TV and phone service will keep you connected to the world. (That is only if you want to stay connected! Many seem to want to escape into the comfort and seclusion for special family time.)

With the open concept in mind, the dining area, with a large table for everyone to sit around, resides between the living and kitchen spaces.

Opening onto the living/dining space is my favorite room: the kitchen, a dream to cook in. Recently remodeled, it features granite counters with island, stainless steel professional grade appliances, including a 6 burner Viking stove with double oven, cherry wood cabinets, and a gas burning fireplace for additional ambiance. That’s right - there is a second fireplace just for the kitchen. You will love this feature in the winter. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to cook up and serve an amazing feast in style. If you love to cook you will love Tree Bear’s kitchen.

On the third level are two bedrooms and a bath with shower.

The back bedroom has a king size bed, hillside views, and a ceiling fan.

The front bedroom we call the “Three Bears Room.” It is huge, about 15ft by 17ft. There are matching log beds: a queen, a full and a twin. Great kids retreat. The sliding glass doors and a skylight let in lots of sun during the day, and star gazing thru the tree tops at night. The balcony also make for a great place to check out new fallen snow in the morning or have a cup of coffee.

All of the beds in the home feature luxury sheets, pillow top mattresses, fluffy down comforters, and mountain décor quilts.

The overall décor of the home is light, bright and airy, with soft neutrals and sage greens, both wood flooring and carpets, woodsy pictures and of course, the Big Bear mountain flair.

About Marianne Sullivan

Kirk and I both spent many years in mountain resort towns in our 20's, and it was a shared dream of ours for many years to own a mountain retreat within a reasonable distance to our home in Orange County. Big Bear Lake has year round activities, and for us is the perfect getaway, any season of the year.

Marianne Sullivan purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Marianne Sullivan chose Big Bear Lake

Ambiance: one of the first reviews we received in our Tree Bear's Hideaway guest book summed it up for us:

“Thanks you very much for renting us your beautiful home! We came up with family for a lovely week and we loved it here! We didn't have to leave your home at all because we found so many fun things to do. You have a great property for sledding and snowball fights. We loved the well equipped kitchen which was a joy to cook in. We definitely made some awesome memories, :)! Signed: the Sanchez, Perez and Hernandez families. We love that in the winter, the home is well laid out for a couple of families, with lots to do and space to do it, games, movies, meals and relaxing. In the summer the deck is the place to be, and honestly, the grounds are so like a park, you hardly know there other cabins nearby.”

Location! Big Bear is easily accessed from anywhere in the Orange County/LA area. From our home in Fullerton, we can easily be here in 1 1/2 hours. We also love the lower Moonridge neighborhood for it's ease of access in the winter, and close proximity to skiing(you can walk to Bear Mountain, .05 miles); and while it's easy to get to the Lake, we wanted to not be too close to the crowds and congestion that Lake properties can sometimes be subjected to.

Our home has parking for 4 cars. There is flat, easy access for two cars. The additional parking is on one those classic Big Bear steep driveways, which can park 3 cards, however it is not helpful to 'low profile' cars. In winter conditions the grade will require 4wd and chains or snow tires. Therefore we recommend car pooling and planning for two vehicles, if possible in winter conditions. Please call us directly if you have any other questions regarding parking.

What makes this cabin unique

Our yard is a sanctuary. Even the many birds who wake us in the morning with their songs think so! Bring some unsalted peanuts for the Blue Birds, they love them! Buy your favorite brand of coffee, brew up a strong early morning cup and listen to the wind rustle thru the aspens. It's magical.

The landscaping is the first sign of the many years of love and care that make Tree Bear's Hideaway a special place for making family memories.

Wonderful Big Bear vacation home for families!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, our two young boys and I had a fun and relaxing weekend in the snow at this beautiful and well-appointed house. The owner is very accommodating, super nice, and got back to us immediately when we had questions. She was VERY helpful with us navigating the impending snow storm and gave us trips on driving up and what to possibly expect. She was very flexible and accommodating on many accounts. Originally we were coming with another couple and their two boys, but they ended up sick and didn't make it, so we had the whole big house to ourselves. The beds were warm and comfortable, the kitchen was WONDERFUL, I really enjoyed making meals there. The backyard was perfect for building snowmen and playing in the snow. The house was a very short drive to a tubing place called SnowPlay which was really fun also. Super convenient location - close to the grocery store, Starbucks, bank, etc. We drove up just ahead of a big snowstorm, so we were happy to be able to hit the store for firewood as we got into town. The driveway is SUPER steep so we had to park on the street due to the snow and ice, (which was fine,) but unloading and loading the car up a slippery, steep driveway was a little crazy -something to bear in mind if you are traveling with someone who would have a hard time going up a little bit of a steep incline. We had a lesson in altitude adjustment with unloading the car - wow! It took a couple of days to adjust to that! This was our first time being at a high altitude like that! Crazy! The kids got a kick out of the bloated potato chip bags! :)

Having two fireplaces was so nice, having the gas one in the kitchen was lovely. There were games for the kids and we spent a lot of time just watching movies and being cozy by the fire, watching the snow fall like crazy for days. Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to try out the hot tub, it was just so cold and snowy out, we meant to but just never got to it. Can't say enough good things about this place, we will definitely be back. We'd love to come see what its like in the summer as well. Perfect Big Bear getaway house!

Another Great Time at this Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here twice now, last time during the winter when there was a lot of snow. This time we stayed over spring break and loved it. The deck with the jacuzzi was our favorite spot, and the grass area was the best place to enjoy coffee in the morning. This place is amazing and feels like home rather than a rental. The owner does a great job maintaining this place. It was about 1/2 a mile from the zoo which we all loved and we found a great little coffee shop and cafe just down the street. We love coming here as renting cabins is rolling the dice in big bear. This place is huge, sits on a vary large treed lot and has been upgraded. I highly recommend this place for families. No complaints.

Great property for a weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is exactly as described. It fit our group of 6 and our dogs nicely with tons of space for playing games, cooking food, or eating. The yard was covered in snow and made a great place to sled down. We had a hiccup with the hot tub but the owner was quick to respond and assist with the situation. I would stay here again. Thank you!

This place feels like Home, not a rental.

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is amazing!!!! Clean, well stocked, upgraded and has a great lay out. It is very big, cozy, warm cabin with all the amenities. The owner/operator is amazing as well. I took my family up during a big snow storm and she went above and beyond to ensure we knew what was needed to prepare. During our stay, there was about 3' of snow on the ground and it snowed all day when we left. My boys spent almost all day playing in the snow just outside the kitchen door, sledding, etc. We didn't need to go anywhere. If you are looking for the perfect family cabin to relax, cook, play in the snow, etc...this place is for you. We will definitely be coming back to this cabin for snow play and relaxation.

Owner's Response: Jason, You and your family were such troopers to come up the weekend of the biggest storm in 20 years! It really takes some effort to deal with blizzards, chains, traffic, so glad the boys got some snow adventuring in. We hope you come back when you can stay longer. :0 Marianne
