My clean and cheerful basement bedroom boasts a comfortable queen-sized, pillow-top bed, TV with built-in DVD player, and a office nook furnished with a desk, office style chair, bookcase and small refrigerator. Kitchen privileges and sharing of common spaces in the house are included. Our picturesque, waterfront town has several great restaurants and is a 40 - 45 minute direct train ride into Manhattan. There are great venues in town that offer live music (no cover charge!) at least three nights per week, and our library is considered one of the finest small libraries in the country.
Life in Port Washington in the summer is like living in a tourist town - without the tourists. There are fishing boat adventures, sunset rides on the Port Water Taxi, kayaks and motorboats to rent, nature preserves to explore... plus the BEST old fashioned, homemade ice cream shop right by the town dock. The locals gather in the evenings at the town dock to watch the sun set over Manhasset Bay, and on clear nights you can see the lights of Manhattan across the water. We have two movie theaters, art galleries, free movies weekly at the library, big-name acts at the Landmark on Main Street's theater, a wonderful mom & pop book shop with an ongoing book club and live local music on Friday nights. The Mediterranean Market Cafe hosts a terrific jazz band on Tuesdays, and "Rock 'n' Blues" on Saturday nights. Our community is wonderfully diverse and friendly, and there are restaurants to please every palate. I could go on, but hopefully by now you get the picture!
