My wife and I stayed for three weeks and we were joined by our friends for the second and third week. We all had a wonderful stay in this very historical property. We stayed in the apartment which is large and has a king size bedroom, a modern kitchen equipped with everything needed including an Illy expresso machine, a nice dining room, living room, and modern bathroom with tub and shower. Our friends stayed in the Yellow Room and enjoyed their king size bed and the ensuite bathroom. Our hosts Antonio and Sonja were very accommodating and provided excellent recommendations for restaurants and and also prepared several meals for us that were delicious and much appreciated. Sonja also arranged a tour of one of the oldest wineries in the region where we met the owner and had an informative and enjoyable time. The apartment faces a lovely garden and we enjoyed our afternoons with fresh figs and grapes along with a bottle of Antonio's superb wine. We toured the Amalfi coast and visited Paestum and Pompeii, all within an hour or so from our location in Lapio. The area is scenic and consist of small villages on top of the many hills in the area and most have nice restaurants and local wineries, but you will definitely need a car and a GPS to find your way. An enclosed and secure parking space is available next to the garden. The photos on the VRBO site are accurate. We recommend this property without hesitation and know you will have a most enjoyable time.
This apartment can be rented in a number of different configurations. Since we were two adult couples, we stayed in the apartment itself with a living room and kitchen, plus the yellow bedroom, which is upstairs and across an elegant castle-like entrance. There is also the rose bedroom, which would have been perfect for another couple, but we did not need it since we were only four. Since our hosts only rent the extra bedrooms to people travelling together, it remained vacant during our stay. The apartment is in the town of Lapio, which we found to be a perfect location to serve as home base for the attractions we wanted to visit: the Amalfi coast, especially Portofino, Pompeii and Herculaneum, and Matera, which is not to be missed. We were able to park our small car in the courtyard and spent our first afternoon visiting with Antonio and Sonja, our hosts, as we sipped the lovely wine they produce. Their wine cellar dates back to the twelfth century and we enjoyed their wines with all of the wonderful dinners we made in the amazingly well equipped kitchen. The welcome basket contained everything we needed for several meals and breakfast. We were there over Mothers Day, so the dads hired a chef who is friends of our hosts to cook a terrific dinner in our own kitchen and we were able to take cooking lessons at the same time. Sonja speaks excellent English and was able to arrange a wine tasting for us that included a tour of the oldest winery in Campania and stimulating conversation while we ate food that complemented the excellent wines, especially the Greco. It was the de Marzo winery (hope I spelled it correctly) in a huge palace and the history of the area, winery, and palace was fascinating. The area and the accommodations were everything we had hoped they would be for our first visit to this part of Italy. Our only regret was that we had so many places we wanted to see that we did not have time to relax in the lovely garden.
