About Jane Black
We live in Atlanta, GA about 2.5 hours from Highlands. We love the Highlands atmosphere and plan to spend more time here.
Jane Black purchased this Cottage in 2007
Why Jane Black chose Highlands
My grandparents built a vacation home in Highlands in 1935. I visited during the summer while growing up and the area still feels like 'home'. The sound of the creek is what drew us to this current property.
What makes this Cottage unique
The weather is delightful all summer and not severe very often during the winter. Gardening is easily successful because of the weather.

Absolute luxury in a beautiful setting!
We just spent Thanksgiving here with friends and it was perfect! I am a self professed "hotel snob" and this home met and exceeded all my expectations. The beds were extremely comfortable with high quality linens (ironed sheets don't hurt!). The home is well appointed and beautifully decorated. You truly feel like you are staying with a friend in their home. There are numerous thoughtful details including toiletries, stocked coffee bar, night lights, poop bags and flash lights, umbrellas, etc.
The sound of the rushing stream out back is fabulous, and I can only imagine the beauty of the grounds in the spring and summer. We will be back!
I need you to be my PR person! I am gratified you noticed and appreciated our "extras". We try to provide the things we would like so it is simple to think of. I am glad you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving. We look forward to your return in warmer weather so you can enjoy the gardens.
Wonderful as always!
Had a great return visit to Highlands. Love staying at Trickledown!
Home away from home.....
We have loved every visit that we have had at Trickledown, and always feel as if we are going home. Relaxing on the screened in porch while listening to the rushing water in Big Creek below is sublime. The owner is amazing, and makes sure no detail is left up to chance, guaranteeing a wonderful time.
October 4 through October 8, 2018
This cabin is beautiful. The surrounding grounds with creek are very park like. We enjoyed the generous library of books and all the provided amenities. We are looking forward to a return visit.
I am so happy to know you noticed and appreciated the many books and extras. Also, that you must have explored the grounds and its diversity. We hope you will find the opportunity to visit again!
Quiet solitude in the mountains, a real treasure!
My wife and I have enjoyed coming here several times a year for quite a while. Jane always has Trickledown well equipped. The kitchen, the fireplace with plenty of firewood, the grill, the landscaping, everything is in place for an enjoyable and quiet stay. Sitting on the screened porch and listening to Big Creek is wonderfully therapeutic. Every couple we invite to join us thoroughly enjoys their stay. We always hate leaving and can't wait to come back.
We LOVE our return guests and are always grateful when nice compliments are given. I hope we always keep ahead of expectations.
We have been privileged to have stayed at Trickledown for quite a few years. Jane has created an
enchanted environment with her gardens, accented with fanciful sculptures and things like the half-buried wicked witch in the children’s garden! And of course you get to hear the soothing sound of the mountain stream behind the house all the time.
The inside is beautifully decorated, and comfortable. The beds, linens, towels soaps are all
Five star. As a bonus, there is a literal library of books, many on gardening.
If you get a rainy day, you can hole up, nice and cozy before the fire with one of her great throws and a book. We always find the house very clean and flowers awaiting us! Jane is a very gracious hostess!
I love your detailed descriptions of different areas and I thank you for taking the time to share with others. The thing we strive for is a positive experience for you and it is good to know your visits continue to inspire you to return. We are grateful for that.
