If you're seeking solitude and privacy in a natural setting and prefer an attractive, clean, and well cared for cabin, then this is the place for you! Welcome to Creekside, located on 39-forested acres in the Adirondack Region of New York State. The property has 420 feet of waterfront on both sides of the winding sandy-bottomed Big Creek, also known as Jenny Creek. The cabin itself is situated in a sunny open area surrounded on all sides by dense evergreen forest just 75 feet from a bluff overlooking the creek. Tall majestic pines line the bank above the waters edge. Gradual steps lead down the embankment to the creek. The property is quiet and private, yet easily accessible. No other houses are visible from our property in any direction. The view across the creek is of unspoiled forest with rock cliffs to the north.
This cozy cabin is both charming and comfortable, making even rainy days into a pleasant experience. West facing French doors off the living area open wide onto the screened porch for views of the water and the setting sun. The cabin features a cathedral ceiling over an open living and kitchen area, one bedroom, plus a handcrafted log staircase leads to an easily accessible full-height loft with both a sleeping area and a cozy nook for reading and relaxing. This small, intimate cabin is ideally suited for two people; four is the maximum occupancy.
Canoe, kayak and fish right here on Big Creek or on nearby rivers and lakes. When water is high, the adventuresome can take the one-mile canoe trip from the cabin downstream to the Oswegatchie River. Observe the abundant wildlife at your doorstep from a wide-ranging variety of bird-life to beaver, mink, ducks, and fish swimming in the creek to occasional deer, turkeys, and foxes passing through.
PARENTS: please be aware that the cabin is set up to accommodate adults and older children. It is not well suited for very young children. Additionally, the yard has a steep 15 foot embankment dropping abruptly into the deepest part of the creek (6 to 10 feet or more water depth depending upon overall creek levels at any given time). The creek itself is readily accessible from the shore and the dock, and has an uneven bottom with sudden drop-offs.
We are located in the western Adirondacks just outside the park, near the village of Harrisville, New York, just 15 minutes east of Lake Bonaparte and 30 minutes west of Wanakena and Cranberry Lake. Situated near the border of St. Lawrence and Lewis counties, Creekside is an hour's drive from Alexandria Bay and the Thousand Islands, an hour from Canada and the International Bridge at Ogdensburg, and forty-five minutes from the Tug Hill Plateau.

We can't get enough of nature! We live on a mountain in a semi-rural area of upstate NY. We've both worked in the human service field and spend as much time as life permits out of doors in nature, whether it's gardening, hiking, canoeing, biking, painting, or motorcycling. Nature feeds our spirits.
Mary and Steve McLaughlin purchased this cabin in 2005
After many years of canoe camping throughout the Adirondacks, we impetuously decided to buy a place of our own. In making our decision we knew two things - our top priority was a private natural setting followed closely by having some kind of water nearby. We found both in Creekside. Our hearts ache every time we have to pack up and drive the five hours to home. There's a peacefulness here, almost as if time itself slows down. Creekside continues to be a true respite from the fast paced life of the northeast.
Although not widely advertised as are other parts of the ADK's, for those interested in exploring beyond the beaten path and the crowds, this area is abundant in hidden natural treasures. Ask about our Recreation document with multiple web links to a variety of activities. We're also not far from Canada!
One of our favorite places to be is sitting with a cup of tea or coffee on the Adirondack chairs overlooking the creek. We have our binoculars with us, no place else to go, just waiting for wildlife to show up whether it's in the form of an interesting bird song, the beavers paddling quietly upstream, gazing at the changing colors of a sunset, or just watching the leaves turn color in the autumn - this is the life! And if you're a star gazer like us you'll appreciate the dark night sky and the brilliance of the Milky Way.
All I can say is this cabin and property are amazing. You will not be disappointed with your say! Cabin is clean, cozy, and well stocked with supplies. The property is breathtaking as my stay captured the changing leaves. I was very sad to leave and will book a full week when I return. Great rental and fantastic hosts! A wonderful retreat that will have you counting down until your return trip.
I was looking for a peaceful and beautiful place, surrounded by nature, water and wildlife where I could escape the craziness of every day life and just relax and enjoy being alive in a wooded and isolated setting. I was not disappointed. The cabin repeated the same tranquility and relaxation as the outside with every comfort offered and anticipated, with mattresses to cradle you and a reading nook that any avid reader would like to duplicate at home. Big windows and plentiful lighting made even the couple of rainy days much brighter. The porch was perfect for eating meals or playing cards while watching nature and many forms of wildlife. The Adirondack chairs overlooking the lake wiled away many wonderful hours of daydreaming. Even on the rainy days, the coziness of the cabin kept you content and relaxed watching from several windows the mist set over the lake. As I opened each new door or cupboard or drawer I was always amazed how well thought through and considerate the cabin was supplied. While a very large binder was available of things to do in the area, I had found my retreat and enjoyed every minute staying there. The vacation was perfection of beauty, peace and comfort both inside and out. I would recommend it to anyone who really wants a place to relax in nature.
This cabin had everything expe Ted and more. We relaxed -- went fishing, went hiking, kayaking, birding.
We stayed downstairs listening for birds to wake us up. And if that wasn't amazing enough, the screened in back porch provided awesome accommodation for breakfast with my wife.
I would totally recommend this vacation to anyone.
My fiancé and I are from the city. We have been wanting to get away for the longest time to a quiet and secluded place and this place was it. Even though the weather was rainy and cold the wood stove kept us nice and warm. The screened in porch was my fiancés favorite to go out there and drink his coffee in the morning and look at wildlife. My favorite was the upstairs balcony "reading" area very relaxing. We will be back next year but will be trying to come a different time of year so we can see what it's like. This place is perfect for anyone trying to get away from reality for a little bit.
Thank you agin for your great hospitality.
What an absolutely gorgeous place! My wife and I stayed here for a week, using it as a base for exploration of the surrounding region, and simply loved it. There are so many lovely places to sit and soak up the peaceful birdsong-filled feel of the place - 2 adirondack chairs right on a small bluff above the creek, a set of 4 chairs by the well-stocked fire pit, and some extremely comfortable chairs on the back deck.
We were particularly impressed by our host's attention to detail in every aspect of the cabin's appointments. Thought has clearly been given to anticipating a traveler's needs, and we found nothing lacking whatsoever.
There are many lovely hikes within the general region, and my wife and I enjoyed several of them while staying at Creekside. While I'd already done quite a bit of research on area hikes before arriving, we were able to make great use of the large library of hiking literature which Mary has assembled for guests to use.
It's amazing how isolated Creekside is while still being quite close to "civilization." We were able to get all of our grocery and grilling needs at the local grocery store just 5 minutes away, and there's a pizza shop right next to the grocery store which we used twice (excellent pizza, btw... the sausage had a hint of perhaps cumin or cardamom which was surprising and delicious). We somehow managed to avoid going to the ice cream shop in town, but it looks great.
In short, a wonderful place to stay. Great place to decompress, sit back, listen to the birds and enjoy the lovely vista. We definitely plan to visit again (and use the canoe!).
The cabin is even better than the pictures! It was clean and had everything we needed for a wonderful vacation. Mary was great to work with and provided so much information about the area. Would definitely recommend Creekside.
