Overview

About the property

Beautiful And Quaint With All Modern Updates On East Fork Of The Little River

This Beautiful Cabin was taken timber by timber from its original location in Etowah County, Alabama. The cabin is pre-civil war in construction, it was reconstructed using the old mortar technique and then added on to in its current location. The Cabin sits on a private road behind a gate. Secluded is an understatement. It is situated on a bluff overlooking the Crystal Clear East Fork of the Little River, just below a waterfall which can be heard as soon as you open the door to the car during the wetter seasons. We have an inviting front porch with a cozy antique swing where many a book has been read in the fragrant mountain air. The Cabin itself retains all of its antique charm as you enter the Great room with its enormous original stone double sided wood-burning fireplace serving the great-room and the Master bedroom both located on the lower floor. The Upstairs is separated by a staircase that leads to a private spacious upper loft that contains two Twin beds and a Queen Bed. There is a fully functional kitchen with stainless appliances/dishwasher/stove/oven/refrigerator/freezer. One Bathroom Downstairs, with High Efficency Maytag Washer and Dryer. Flat Screen TV with Apple TV/DVD/Inside/outside Stereo/Xbox/Wireless Internet/Dish Network/Central Heat and Air. Master Bedroom overlooks a large elevated back porch and the river can be heard from an open window. There is a large stone hearth wood burning fireplace in the bedroom. The Bedroom opens onto a cozy screened in porch with a 6 person water therapy spa/hot-tub. There is a charcoal grill on the back porch. There are steps to the fire-pit and picnic area overlooking the river, and steps to the river itself where depending on the water level you can swim/float/fish/lounge or sit in the crystal clear mountain water. The house is about 10 minutes from Downtown Mentone for antique shopping/cultural activity/or fantastic food and music at the Wildflower Cafe or other restaurants. The canyon is also about 10 minutes away, and 5 Minutes from Alpine Boys Camp, Desoto State Park, Desoto Waterfall, and Lake. There are wildflowers galore and wild blueberries and blackberries and plums along the road depending on the season. Wildlife abounds everywhere. The Tin Roof provides a great sound to sleep to when it rains.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time and the cabin was perfect. I wished we could have stayed longer. I can honestly say that we had zero complaints about your place. The view of the river is great. We had everything we might need and more. We were able to eat lunch at the Wildflower, Leigh's favorite place to eat, and it was terrific as usual. Although we have never stayed in Mentone, we often ride motorcycles through the area. Your place is far enough out that there is very little light pollution, so the sky reminded me of childhood when there were very few streetlights polluting the sky.

I have already recommended it to several friends if they wanted to get away from it all, and I'm sure we will be sneaking away again, but maybe next time, for several more days.

Thanks for checking in on us as we had a wonderful time!

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is exactly as advertised. Very private and somewhat secluded but has fast internet which was one of my concerns. I was able to stay on top of work while having an incredibly relaxing time with my family. Our dog had a blast as well! It’s set up perfectly for dogs with a small fenced in area connected to the porch. We will definitely be back! Thanks Robert for making this awesome cabin available at such an amazing price!

Had a really nice time....

  • 5 of 5

.... and the cabin was very clean and updated. They even had a little fenced in area for our dogs which we really appreciated. As I've seen other people recommend as well, you must eat dinner at the Wildflower Cafe in downtown Mentone (their Black N' Blue Filet is one of the best filets I've ever had.)

Inspiring

  • 5 of 5

Loved this getaway. We were isolated from life’s distractions and able to focus on writing. The view of the creek was beautiful and the hot tub was perfect on chilly nights. Would love to come back this summer and go swimming! Highly recommend.

Anniversary get away!

  • 5 of 5

The stay was a perfect way to celebrate our 33rd Anniversary! The isolation and the waterfalls were so relaxing and peaceful. It was so cozy sleeping by the fire after relaxing in the hot tub. We had a great time and were sad to have to leave. We will be back! Everything was a breeze setting up through VRBO and wouldn't hesitate using their services again. Thanks for the new great memories!

Great secluded cabin get away for our 38th Anniversary.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the cabin and the location. This is pretty far out in the woods but is worth the drive. The cabin is decorated well and has most of the stuff you expect on these trips. We didn't have problems with anything at the house. We enjoyed the location to Desoto St. Park, only 10 min. Very convenient for hiking and sightseeing. The house sits right on the river where rocks create a very peaceful cascading water sound. It was too cool to try the river but we really enjoyed the hot tub on the deck. This location does not have any cell service so don't expect any. They have phone and internet but we enjoyed not having to use any of it!! Our opinion of getting away. The last night we were there it rained a lot. I would recommend having a 4x4 vehicle to get here and back. The dirt road is pretty good but low cars will bottom out in some places. It would be hard getting out if too much rain.

Overall we will come back here again to get away. We really had a relaxing time and worked out better than expected. Thank you for sharing your great cabin.

Owner's Response: Glad you had a great time! The roads get a bit muddy at end of winter but are passable with a car, there are a few potholes as the county gets around to us to scrape the roads, so far out of 8 years no one has gotten stuck!!
