About the property

Beautiful And Quaint With All Modern Updates On East Fork Of The Little River

This Beautiful Cabin was taken timber by timber from its original location in Etowah County, Alabama. The cabin is pre-civil war in construction, it was reconstructed using the old mortar technique and then added on to in its current location. The Cabin sits on a private road behind a gate. Secluded is an understatement. It is situated on a bluff overlooking the Crystal Clear East Fork of the Little River, just below a waterfall which can be heard as soon as you open the door to the car during the wetter seasons. We have an inviting front porch with a cozy antique swing where many a book has been read in the fragrant mountain air. The Cabin itself retains all of its antique charm as you enter the Great room with its enormous original stone double sided wood-burning fireplace serving the great-room and the Master bedroom both located on the lower floor. The Upstairs is separated by a staircase that leads to a private spacious upper loft that contains two Twin beds and a Queen Bed. There is a fully functional kitchen with stainless appliances/dishwasher/stove/oven/refrigerator/freezer. One Bathroom Downstairs, with High Efficency Maytag Washer and Dryer. Flat Screen TV with Apple TV/DVD/Inside/outside Stereo/Xbox/Wireless Internet/Dish Network/Central Heat and Air. Master Bedroom overlooks a large elevated back porch and the river can be heard from an open window. There is a large stone hearth wood burning fireplace in the bedroom. The Bedroom opens onto a cozy screened in porch with a 6 person water therapy spa/hot-tub. There is a charcoal grill on the back porch. There are steps to the fire-pit and picnic area overlooking the river, and steps to the river itself where depending on the water level you can swim/float/fish/lounge or sit in the crystal clear mountain water. The house is about 10 minutes from Downtown Mentone for antique shopping/cultural activity/or fantastic food and music at the Wildflower Cafe or other restaurants. The canyon is also about 10 minutes away, and 5 Minutes from Alpine Boys Camp, Desoto State Park, Desoto Waterfall, and Lake. There are wildflowers galore and wild blueberries and blackberries and plums along the road depending on the season. Wildlife abounds everywhere. The Tin Roof provides a great sound to sleep to when it rains.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time and the cabin was perfect. I wished we could have stayed longer. I can honestly say that we had zero complaints about your place. The view of the river is great. We had everything we might need and more. We were able to eat lunch at the Wildflower, Leigh's favorite place to eat, and it was terrific as usual. Although we have never stayed in Mentone, we often ride motorcycles through the area. Your place is far enough out that there is very little light pollution, so the sky reminded me of childhood when there were very few streetlights polluting the sky.

I have already recommended it to several friends if they wanted to get away from it all, and I'm sure we will be sneaking away again, but maybe next time, for several more days.

Thanks for checking in on us as we had a wonderful time!

Just what you need!

  • 5 of 5

We walked in the door and somehow it felt like home. Celebrating our daughters 30th birthday, is was perfect. She loves the outdoors and history and this property had it all. The history of the cabin, and the area that is was in was spectacular. We spent hours at the river, sitting on rocks in the sun (Mom and Pops are from NY State and we left 2 ft. of snow) we photographed and soaked up the magic down at the river. So wished we would have come in swimming weather. So enjoyed the fire pit. Talked for hours and enjoyed that perfect spot. The cabin is perfect, beds so comfy and perfect spots for playing games and dinners with long chats. We felt like we were in our own Adirondack Mountains, very similar to the Lake Placid area. We didn't see many animals, that was kind of a disappointment but on a hike we found an owl pellet. Our daughter is an owl lover, and can actually call them... and well when you check into this perfect cabin you will realize how important owls are!

We have been twice. Once for our honeymoon and once for our anniversary. It is so peaceful and perfect. The whole cabin is beautiful. The water and view are amazing! It's just charming and so clean and well maintained! We didn't even really do anything but enjoy the cabin and the property!

Beautiful getaway, very comfortable

  • 5 of 5

From the great view to the sound of the big creek on the property, this trip was a great decision! This is a location a little out of town and close to DeSoto State Park. We came during the winter but will be back in the summer to enjoy all the swimming holes and hiking.

Comfy Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had the most relaxing time at the Away From it All Cabin! It makes you feel like you are stepping back in time with the primitive log structure, but it has all the amenities we needed. This place is very private, quiet, and serene. If you need a get away that requires peace and quiet, this is it. The cabin sits on a bluff that overlooks a beautiful waterfall and cascading river. We hope to return to this lovely property!
