Established in 1787, Rutherfordton is among the oldest towns in western North Carolina and is the seat of the oldest continuous government in the region. Steeped in history since the Revolutionary War, this Town has managed to keep its “old time” charm while progressing into the 21st century. From the cluster of antebellum houses in the historic district at the north end of Town to the fiber optic hub on the south end, this Town spans centuries.

Downtown Rutherfordton, home to KidSenses Children's Interactive Museum, The Bechtler Museum and America's first minted Gold Coins, and also home to CrossFit WideOpen, nationally known Personal Trainer's Sarah and Ross Gilling, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district and is a beautiful representation of rural western North Carolina small towns. Situated on ridges, its elevations offer great views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and its location in the Isothermal Belt means mild weather and outstanding beauty in four distinct seasons.

Established in 1784, Morganton is the county seat and cultural, governmental, financial and commercial center of Burke County, NC. The City sits in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on Interstate 40 (I-40) between Hickory and Asheville, and Table Rock mountain provides a beautiful backdrop for residents and visitors. MIA BELLA VISTA is between Rutherfordton and Morganton on scenic NC HWY 64, with views of the awesome South Mountain State Park, the largest State Park in North Carolina, and is surrounded by Box Creek Wilderness, a 5800 acre forest of untouched natural beauty.

Nestled in the North Carolina Wilderness and minutes from MIA BELLA VISTA, the 55,000 acre and largest State Park in North Carolina, South Mountains State Park is the perfect place to enjoy nature. Here you can see a majestic mountain range peeking out from the gently rolling landscape of the piedmont.

The park includes elevations up to 3,000 feet, a waterfall dropping 80 feet and more than 40 miles of trails. From equestrian camping to trout fishing, mountain biking to picnicking, a number of activities are available at South Mountains State Park.

Visit one of the state's most rugged parks. Hike the trail to High Shoals Falls to witness the roar of the waterfall as it pours into a large pool. Backpack through the woodlands for primitive camping. Fish for trout in miles of mountain streams, or bicycle along the 17-mile mountain-bike loop. That's not all! More of the best sights in the country await you at CHIMNEY ROCK STATE PARK and LAKE LURE, locations for films such as Dirty Dancing, and Last of the Mohicans. A must see!

Is the natural fulfillment of your trip to the North Carolina mountains. Take a deep breath of refreshing mountain air, become invigorated by our hiking trails, and let your cares fade away in the cool mist of Hickory Nut Falls. This is the perfect place to reconnect with nature and spend time with family and friends. Only minutes from Lake Lure, Chimney Rock offers the best of the mountains in one place – spectacular 75-mile views, hiking trails for all ages, a 404-foot waterfall, a variety of events and more. Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park is proud to be part of the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area and is located just 25 miles southeast of Asheville, NC

Why Mike chose North Carolina

This was a one of a kind, contemporary Frank Lloyd Wright inspired design. We wanted our guests to feel very peaceful and awestruck at this architectural gem. The Lake Lure and Lake James area are the perfect setting. Mia Bella Vista will force you to slow down.

Amazing property...the photos don't even do the property justice. The views are absolutely gorgeous and the house is spacious, accommodating and structurally beautiful. A welcomed departure from your standard, "log cabin." Your stay here will not disappoint!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mia Bella Vista. The location was excellent for getting away from it all. The house was immaculate and the views were spectacular.

Mike and Becky were great to deal with. They met us at the house and showed us around. I would highly recommend this property and location for a relaxing vacation.

Beautiful house - very remote which is what we were looking for

  • 4 of 5

The house is lovely and the view is spectacular. There is really nothing around for 20 miles. We were on our honeymoon so that's what we wanted. Chimney Rock/ Lake Lure was an easy and enjoyable excursion. Grandfather Mountain a little further away (1.5 hours) but so worth it. We didn't make the trip to Asheville for the day (@ 1 hour away). Mike was a great host. Met us at the house with a wedding gift of chocolate and bubbly. Great stay. Memorable time.

Breathtaking views! Stunning property!

  • 5 of 5

My family and another couple decided we needed a last minute getaway. We stumbled upon this property on VRBO and immediately we were sold. The amenities were exactly what we were looking for and the views were unbeatable. We really liked that the master suite and the spare rooms were separate, as we were traveling with an infant, so that our friends were not able to hear him wake at night. We utilized the pool table both nights we were there and the open kitchen/dining/family area was great for socializing while preparing meals and keeping an eye on the little one all at once.

Mike, the Property Manager, was very responsive to my numerous inquiries and was accommodating to all of our needs leading up to, and during, our stay. The property was clean and we were provided a tour upon arrival to make us familiar with all of the ins-and-outs of the property before being left to nature for the weekend. We took a day trip to the Lake Lure area and enjoyed the scenery and family restaurants there. All-in-all this was a perfect weekend getaway to relax and recharge!

Beautiful Seclusion w/ AMAZING owners!

  • 5 of 5

We booked MIA BELLA VISTA to help a single mother celebrate her only daughter's engagement, and the house far exceeded our expectations!

The view is breathtaking and unrivaled!

The home is beautiful, private, spacious, and fully equipped.

Mike (the owner/manager) was extremely prompt in answering questions and very accommodating!

His assistant Becky met us at the house and showed us around. We had no need to for anything, but in the rare chance that we did, they provided us with their numbers!!!

We were all very happy with the stay, amd we all highly recommend this lovely location and any other managed by Mike!!!

Firstly, the reviews about the owners are absolutely correct. They are truly pleasent people and are more than accomodating. There are items for improvement:

-There is construction adjacent to the home that may be a noise nuisance during the week for a few more months.

-Having opened the outside door to enter and exit only, somehow bugs kept multiplying in the home.

-One of the bed rails collapsed when sat on, so that bed was not able to be used.

-The pots and pans are poor quality and hard to clean.

-Its impossible to get a radio station to work on the stereo, so ensure you bring an AUX cable.

-The land line worked for about a minute before the call was dropped. This was fairly frustrating when you have emergent work calls and no cell phone signal.

Other than that, the home is truly quaint. The location is great and the home has great potentiol. Theres enough activities in the area to keep you very busy if your an outdoors person.

Owner's Response: Hi Mike. Thank you for taking the time. The "construction noise" was a well being drilled. That house is 3 weeks from completion. It is lady bug season, a real pain but doesn't last long. Nobody ever complained about the pots and pans, but we bought a new set this week anyway. The house is wired for sound with 12 speakers and a CD player. Can't control the airwaves. Thank you. We really do try and earn our visitors business..each and every stay.
