I purchased this home in 2011 after falling in love with the Rainbow River, the crystal clear spring fed water took my breath away. The land that this home site on is truly priceless and I am excited for you to experience the wonder of this magical place.
Amber purchased this House in 2011
Why Amber chose Dunnellon
Years ago as a child I visited the Ichetucknee River in northern Florida and I promised myself that one day, if I ever found a place that beautiful again, I would buy it and build my dream home. Thankfully I found it and now I would like to share it with you.
What makes this House unique
The land this home sits on is truly unique. Almost every home on the Rainbow River is directly on the main flowing river where there is constant tuber traffic and noise. My house is set off the river in a crystal clear lagoon (not Blue Cove) with a private clear large stream that runs through it. Plenty deep for swimming but smaller children love it because they can stand and enjoy in the fun. You can see the tubers floating by and you can reach the river by swimming to it in less than two minutes. You will love the privacy of your own oasis. This home is a must see!

Our family had a great time of fellowship, food, conversation, and relaxing by the river...We welcomed in the New Year together and prayed God would bless us, keep up well so that we come back again next year. Some fish were caught, children paddled on inner tubes, grownups caught site of fish, otters and other boaters as they enjoyed the scenery along the river. The river house was a wonderful retreat...clean,well equipped and the round table made a big hit with all of us. Thank you Amber for allowing us to enjoy the time we had at the river.
Perfect Family-Friendly Get-Away
This property was a blessing to our family - we loved it! Amber was super to work with. She was kind, professional, accommodating, as well as responsive and attentive to my questions. We stayed 6 nights for a family reunion over the week of Christmas with 10 adults and 14 children.
There was something for everyone (ages 17 months through 70 years) to do. We enjoyed playing pool and board games, having the open layout downstairs for communal cooking and lots of opportunities for togetherness. We even had a fire at the fire ring out front (with firewood from a friendly neighbor!) and got to use all the colorful Adirondack chairs. We were in the river everyday whether it was kayaking, canoeing, snorkeling, tubing the 20 minutes down to the bridge at Swampy’s and shuttling back up for another round (over and over again!), fishing (several of our aged 3-7 boys caught their first fish on this trip), swimming up against the current and enjoying the speed on the way back down to the house, and swinging off the rope on the tree out back. The dare devils even jumped off the bridge. 72 degree water was a welcome temperature to our crew that is used to the Pacific Northwest cold this time of year.
The house was clean and everything was in working order. There were plenty of towels (clean and fresh) for everyone. The kitchen was fully equipped and functional for our big group that cooked every meal in for the whole week. We brought in an extra table and folding chairs conveniently stored on the screened-in porch to seat everyone inside at each meal. The big round table with the lazy Susan was a smashing hit for us. We appreciated the new air mattresses and new life vests. There was plenty of laundry soap for our wash loads every day. It was our pleasure to leave the house as clean as we found it.
Other things we enjoyed nearby were: Rainbow Springs State Park, the walking trail at Blue Run of Dunnellon Park, stores close enough for last minute grocery or drug store needs, nearby church for daily mass.
We would love to stay at this place again. Thank you, Amber and family for a great place!
Excellent property for family get-together
We visited this property for a long weekend as a surprise birthday party for my dad's 70th birthday. Plenty of room for 4 family with multiple kids. Even rented a boat down the way and parked in out back. Couldn't have been happier with the turn out- and owner was very responsive. Definitely hope to return in the future.
My only complaint is the pictures do not do this place justice- living space was much larger and accommodable then you can see here. Whereas it added to the surprise, I suggest gettinga professional photographer so people can appreciate how great this place is. Friends from facebook have been asking where we were, and how they can get this house themselves! Thanks Amber..
Great space for our whole family to spend time together and explore the river.
Amber’s place gave us the room we needed for our family of 9 adults and toddler to spend our Thanksgiving cooking and bonding. The large table with its lazy Susan was perfect for big meals and card games. The river is one of a kind. Ambers allowed us breath taking views and a chance to glimpse the otters. We were even able to do s’mores one night! Blue Gator was a favorite of ours when we didn’t feel like cooking. A Thanksgiving to remember for sure. Thanks Amber!
The owner is terrific! The house is wonderful and saves time and money having everything there. This is our 2nd visit and it’s definitely not our last. As beach front property owners who’s neighbors rent their homes for 1300 plus a day, to rent this place so inexpensively and have kayaks and everything to use for free, it’s truly remarkable. Our family travels a lot and we are blessed to call this place one of our first class accommodations, and that’s saying a lot!!!
As anyone knows who owns waterfront property, it’s hard to maintain and Amber does a great job of it!!
The only good thing about this house is the LOCATION!!!
We had family visiting from Australia and couldn't take them to the beach w/ the Red Tide. Rainbow River has always been one of my favorite places in Florida so we took the whole family. Upon arrival we found a huge dog poop on the back porch, GROSS. We couldn’t use the porch during our stay b/c the furniture was so moldy. The screens were just stapled on making it easy for critters & bugs to get in. When we were putting our food in the pantry I had to clean out so much crap just to make room. Then I found rat or mouse poop all over the shelves in the pantry. The kitchen was so packed full of cheap plastic utensils that there was barely any room for our stuff. The fridge had multiple broken shelves. The cookware was terrible and we had issues trying to cook for our large group every night. Whoever cleans this property does a terrible job! None of the doors lock to the bathrooms and that made for many awkward moments. The kayaks and provisions were so beat up and dirty. The photos for this house must have been from 10 years ago b/c this house is awful and not cared for. The pool table is crooked, and the flooring is unstable in places. The so called "private island" is just a bug infested swamp. I cannot believe what they charge a night for this dump. I was so embarrassed to take my family to this home for the weekend. We were completely disappointed!!! The only saving grace is the location near the end of the river.
Every guest is invited and encouraged to come and view the property prior to booking as you know. When you visited the property you loved it! I am very sorry you feel this way, I have not had a negative review in years. The home went through an enormous renovation in 2012 and we began renting it in 2013 so the pictures are within five years and many new pictures have been uploaded. We have a strict no pet policy so how there was a mess on the back porch is surprising. Animals cannot get into the back porch.
The furniture on the back porch is not moldy however in the summer months in Florida it can get hot and sticky outside, we do provide fans.
The two kayaks are rather new and so is the large canoe w new paddles and seating...we did get a lot of rain this summer so the river was up a little higher than usual. Being that it is “an island” it is subject to the water levels of the river.
We have many beautiful weddings on that island and have reservations for weddings booked out two years in advance.
The left over plastic ware is from previous guests who appreciate the extra provisions we leave at the home and there is plenty of space for cooking w the brand new double oven and large new cooktop which were purchased less than six months ago. The fridge works great, we have removed some shelving to accommodate for larger items per guest requests.
We have elected to make the bathroom doors not lock because children have locked themselves in the bathrooms with the tubs full of water and to avoid possible tragedy we felt keeping them from locking would be best. We have a monthly pest control company (Florida Pest Control) and have had no issues that I have heard of for years. I will speak w my cleaning crew and have them address your complaints immediately.
