About Joe Clapper

Michele and I are trail runners and for Thanksgiving 2012 we went to Sedona to run the trails in the national Forest. We immediately fell in love with Sedona and started looking for a house. As soon as we walked into this house we knew this was the one. We bought this house on the last day of 2012 and I spent four months of 2013 renovating the house. Michele decorated from local artists and local art sellers.

We love traveling the world (picture above is from Iceland) and we know what is important when visiting a new place. We took this knowledge and integrated as much as we could into furnishing, decorating, outfitting our Sedona home. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

For now our work keeps us in the Washington DC area most of the time but, whenever we can we go to Sedona to seek adventure and to relax. -Joe

Why Joe Clapper chose Sedona

When looking for a house in Sedona, Red Rock Views and being close to trails were non-negotiable. We picked this particular house because it was in a quiet neighborhood, close to everything, yet not so close you can hear it. The Village of Oak Creek offers all the amenities without the hustle and bustle of uptown Sedona.

What makes this house unique

The cathedral ceiling in the great room with a glass wall looking out on Castle Rock and Gunsight Gap made this house unique. As you walk through the sliding door onto the large patio the panorama of red rocks expands. The covered patio allows you to relax in comfort as the natural world surrounds you.

This is a terrific house, not just for a vacation stay but to live in permanently. Excellent design: spacious, huge patio with great red rock views, terrific kitchen with everything (we mean everything) you could need - and impeccably organized. Quiet area, so good sleeping. Joe was a great host. He was responsive and genuinely concerned that we should have the very best experience. We've rented 3-5 vacation places a year for 25 years or more , mostly in Europe, and this home is at the top of the list. If you want a house in Sedona, look no further.

The house was beautiful and so was the area. The small touches in the house made a huge difference. There were plenty of menu's for local restaurants (with reviews from the owner) and also plenty of information about what to do in the area. Every drawer and cabinet was labeled with its contents so there was no searching around for which drawer held which thing. The owners communicated with us before the vacation and even e-mailed us mid-week to make sure everything in the house was up to par. We will be staying here again!

Amazing house and area

  • 5 of 5

The pictures and descriptions were absolutely spot on. Amazing amount of info on the Sedona area compiled and available for ready consumption. The house, kitchen, bathrooms, hot tub, it was all wonderful. Very comfortable for everyone. The house is two blocks from Oak Creek Golf Course, a Gorgeous(!!!) all grass facility. Morning walks along the lush fairways was a common group activity. We used Golfnow to book a great rate and rental clubs could be had for $30. Dining options included Barking Frog (our fav), Oak Creek Grille, Hideaway House (hope your waiter is Robert-loads of fun), and of course, the Rocky Rd Ice Cream company (do NOT miss this place!!) for home made goodness. Hiking is all around you. We Scrambled up Bell Rock for sunrise, hiked Boynton Canyon, West Fork of Oak Creek, Doe Mountain, and Fay Canyon. Take the side trail to Fay Canyon Arch, a natural bridge which is amazing. It is a bit hard to find the spur trail and a scramble to the arch but worth every step. Part of our group did a Grand Canyon day trip. It's 2.5 hours drive one way. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves great scenery and a great place to relax and hang out. 5 STARS!!!

Absolutely No Disappointments!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have rented many vacation homes throughout the years. We have never been unhappy with any of the selections that we've made. That being said, this property is truly special compared to all the rest we've experienced.

This is a wonderfully comfortable home with a crazy good view of the Red Rocks in the back. There are amenities a plenty. The Clappers make sure that everything you need is available in the home. Cooking items, blankets, sheets, pillows, towels, utensils, plates, you name it. There is a lot of it, and most of it is of the quality you want in your own home. The furniture is comfortable, wifi works good, and the hot tub is nice.

The home is in fantastic condition with no issues with paint, flooring, etc. Everything is clean and stain free. It is in a neighborhood with quite a few close neighbors, but you really don't even realize it when you are there. The back of the home is very well 'secluded' with the landscaping. We had zero issues with noise or anything neighbor related.

The area is nice. There is a decent grocery store within a couple of minutes from the home. There is also a great little cafe beside the grocery (hint: Eggs Benedict!). The home is 10-15 minutes from the touristy center of Sedona; lots of shops and restaurants, and the beauty of the Red Rocks. Don't get me started on the golf in Sedona, and of course in Phoenix/Scottsdale.

Flagstaff is not far, the Grand Canyon is roughly two hours North, and Phoenix is about an hour South of the home. We spent a good bit of time in Sedona. We visited Flagstaff and spent one day at the Grand Canyon. Towards the end of our stay we visited the Barrett Jackson Car Auction in Scottsdale for a day.

We have always like to take vacations somewhere new, but have already discussed coming back to the Clapper's home. Maybe my son and I can carry our golf clubs with us next time....I'm going to work on that! (:
