- A truly special place -
El Patio is located in the historic district of Silver City and boasts a five minute walk to the heart of historic downtown. Built in the late 1800's of traditional adobe block, this home is one of the earliest built in the area around the time Silver city was first settled. Post WWII, it was divided into two smaller dwellings to accommodate returning soldiers and their families. Today, the building itself is a testament to the soundness and ingenuity of adobe construction and the building methods of that time.
Named for the pleasant outdoor space it provides, El Patio offers a 500 sq. ft. flagstone patio that is bordered with many plantings, both native and otherwise, to ensure the presence of humming birds, bees and butterflies. In addition to being visually pleasing, the patio sits beneath a canopy of trees that provide shade throughout the day. There is a full size gas grill, dining seating for six, and separate lounge chairs. For evening enjoyment, the outside can be lit with soft party lights that gracefully hang between the trees and house itself. There is also a stone fire pit available for use as fire conditions allow.
Inside, you'll find the home truly defies its age; quite simply, it is bright, warm and inviting. The interior has been renovated to bring a freshness to the space, while keeping its unique features and original charm intact.
For your convenience, the kitchen is supplied with all the essentials for cooking/preparing meals, as well as, having a full size stove and refrigerator.
The bathroom has been redone with a multicolored slate floor, and a custom tile inlay that surrounds the original claw-foot bathtub. For your comfort, the towels are soft and durable, and shampoo and soap are provided.
The beds are dressed with soft, 100% cotton sheets, light quilts/down comforters, and soft or firmer pillows. The space also provides ample storage: In addition to a dresser in each bedroom, EVERY room has its own closet and shelving with plenty of room to store belongings and hang clothes for longer stays.
Not only is El Patio highly accessible to downtown galleries, restaurants and special events, it also sits directly across the street from the open space known as Boston Hill - aptly named for the Boston based mining company contracted to extract silver from the area 60 years ago. “The hill” is now home to a vast network of trails spanning 9 square miles - ideal for long or shorter hikes, mountain biking and impressive, comprehensive views of the city.
Check-In is between 2 p.m. & 10 p.m. Check-Out is 11 a.m.
El Patio is the sister property of El Pasos (VRBO #630188)
Silver City has been our home for the last twelve years. The incomparable weather, beautiful landscape and friendly people have made it feel as if we have always been here. Our passion for older houses, their restoration and care, has led us to offer El Patio as a short term vacation home. We are excited to share this property with visitors and pleased to be able to continue to care for this special place for years to come. We hope that you enjoy your stay.
This lovely restored adobe home sits on a hill that allows a view of the mountain ridges surrounding Silver City. It is also directly in front of Boston Hill, an area that was once mined and now belongs to the city and has wonderful trails, which can be easily accessed from various streets nearby, including S Cooper. The kitchen was well stocked as was the bathroom; the beds were also very comfortable.
Well, let us start by saying that Carolyn and Josh are two of the sweetest people we have met! That set the stage for what was a lovely property and experience in our month stay at Silver City NM. El Patio home is simple and charming, tidy and clean, convenient and well-appointed....in short, Carolyn and Josh have seen to it that their sweet home feels like YOUR sweet home. Plenty of utensils, towels/sheets, books/entertainment....not to mention a short walk to the historic downtown district replete with coffee shops, cafes and shopping. And even though there were chilly days and some snow while we were there but we stayed warm and toasty in our little house! (On a totally personal note, we really appreciated a great community organic market downtown for groceries as well as recycling at our curb. Also, Carolyn has wonderful organic supplies to use...hand soap, cleaners, etc.) Also, there are convenient services nearby...Walgreens, Walmart, Albertsons, many churches to try also. We enjoy state/national parks and walking trails. There were plenty nearby, our favorites being Dragonfly Trail and City of Rocks State Park. We also took a couple of day trips to Las Cruces which is a short 90 minutes away. Lots of fun at the farmers market and Old Mesilla. The largest chunk of our time however, was spent enjoying Silver City and simply relaxing in this warm and friendly small town. Thank you to Carolyn and Josh for the blessing of this stay! Rick and Kim
We stayed in El Patio and El Pasos for 3 nights. You can not go wrong with either of these places and book together if you have more then 4 in your party. We were a party of 5 and it was perfect having both places. These houses are immaculately clean and decorated beautifully. The kitchens are stocked and we loved the fact that there were a lot of items already in the kitchen like spices, flour, oil, coffee etc. We cooked in all three nights and only had to get the main ingredients. Thank you Carolyn!
We were so glad we chose El Patio for our first trip to Silver City. It was nicely decorated, with lots of thoughtful touches, from books and games to the menus of local restaurants and lots of magazines about the area. The location was perfect - quiet but still close enough to the historic downtown area for us to walk over for food and/or window shopping. The kitchen was also very comfortable to use and well stocked, and the big tub was a plus also. Oh, and my daughter loved the solar lights in the back that made flower patterns on the patio. Overall, I would highly recommend it, and my husband's uncle, who lives in the area, said he will now recommend his visitors stay here too.
El Patio offers a wonderful respite from busy lives. It was the perfect setting for our first visit to Silver City, charming and in walking distance to the historic downtown. The house is comfortable, clean, beautifully decorated, and features many amenities. The weather was damp so we didn't spend much time in the backyard, but the garden is lovely. It was nice to arrive to a tasty chocolate bar and a kind note, along with lots of materials on local attractions. We would definitely stay here again.
We loved it! Clean, comfortable, cozy, and convenient! I'll add one more "C" for Carolyn. She was a fantastic host. We needed to make a last minute change and she was extremely accessible and accommodating. A++++++ all around.
