About Becky

Both Jim and I grew up in the Chicago area and live in the City now.

My husband Jim has been traveling to the North Shore since he was boy and has great memories of his family vacations there.

My first trip to the North Shore was just after we were married 15 years ago. I fell in love with area immediately and never wanted our vacations to come to an end.

Becky purchased this house in 2012

Why Becky chose Minnesota

We have been looking for the perfect house and piece of property ever since our first trip up together. Finally our dream came true this past year.

Growing up in, and living in Chicago now, we love the fact, that when at Twin Cedars we can't see our neighbors. That was very important to us.

We try to get to Twin Cedars every chance we get but in the mean time want to share this beautiful piece of the North Shore with you.

What makes this house unique

I remember vividly my first glimpse of Lake Superior right from the driveway. As I walked down the gentle sloping path into the yard for the first time, I saw a cute little footbridge crossing over a seasonal creek. Not only did I have a beautiful, walkable, ledge rock shore stretching out in front of me but a babbling brook as well.

As I strolled up the small creek bed lined with stones and wild roses I realized we had a small Springtime waterfall located just off the deck. This is one of my husbands favorite things to enjoy while grilling.

Inside the house is all 'Knotty pine' that gives you that true 'Up North' feeling.

This is a 1960's custom built house with lots of fun interesting features. With the updated track lighting you can either do some fine needle work and reading or have a cozy family movie night.

Both the Family room and A-Frame have fantastic views of the lake. Just off the A-Fame are a few bird feeders rigged to attract a variety of species and with windows all around being from floor to ceiling the bird watching can be exceptional. It sometimes feels like you are in your own tree house.

The Family room has a huge picture window that looks out over the deck and Lake Superior. You can see all the way to the Horizon here.

Beautiful setting, terrific place!

  • 5 of 5

This is the 3rd winter stay my family has enjoyed at Twin Cedars. I almost don't want to write a great review because I want to keep the place for ourselves - how selfish is that? Our family of 4 (16 year old and 11 year old) finds this to be perfect for us. It could easily accommodate more people, but we love the room to relax. Every detail is handled - sheets, towels, access to spices and cooking oils/sprays (because a person never uses very much and it's wonderful to not worry about bringing things with you). There is a stash of tea, coffee, cocoa and s'more fixings - incredibly welcoming. The owners are easy to work with and clearly value the guests who rent the property with a super clean home, toiletries for use (shampoo, conditioner, lotion) and plenty of information on things to do, places to eat, etc. We spend a lot of our time outside when we are here and access to trails and activities of any kind is very easy. The Norpine XC ski trails are less than a mile away and have multiple access points. Lutsen Resort is close, Grand Marais is a 15 min. drive. No matter what you do, Twin Cedars is an excellent base from which to start. Relaxing here is easy and I know you won't want to leave - we never do! Our teen wanted more time to recline inside, with a book, a view of the big lake and snacks close at hand. A huge thanks to Becky and Jim for setting the bar so high with their second home.

Twin Cedars except one is a spruce!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a great weekend of skiing and we loved this home. We were very impressed with the property itself. The land is beautiful with the stream rushing to the lake, views of the lake and the surrounding wilderness. We had eight - two couples and four kids. Wish the double bed was a queen for the adults but other than that, there was plenty of room with the love seat bed in the loft and the aerobeds. We had everything we needed and enjoyed it very much. Great to be so dog friendly as well. She enjoyed it as well! We will definitely come back!

Owner's Response: Hello, Thanks so much for taking the time to write your review. I'm glad you and your group had a great time and got to enjoy the waterfall too ! Jim and I have tried every way but Sunday to fit a queen size bed in that room but to no avail, glad you could make all the other options work out for you. though. Thanks for being such great guests and hope to hear from you again soon. All the best to you and your group. Becky

Me and a group of friends visited this cabin for a long weekend ski trip mid February and it was one of the most memorable weekends i can think of. The layout of the cabin is very cool and the decorations and design is just perfect for that up north feel. The large backyard is also beautiful and it is a very short walk to the lake shore where you get the absolute best views. I only wish it had been summer time so we could get the full effect with the river running. When we arrived for our stay we walked in to a family room with a cast iron propane fireplace running and a beautifully spacious and well kept property that had literally everything we could possibly need. We also had some poor weather and the driveway became very icy one night but we woke up to someone having dropped of large containers of salt to help with the ice. We are already planning a return trip for the summer time and i cant wait!

Wonderful stay at Twin Cedars!

  • 5 of 5

My sister, my dog, and I had a wonderful week at Twin Cedars. It is a beautiful, stunning location, with well kept grounds and of course the amazing view and close presence of Lake Superior. The house was perfect, gorgeous views from the large balcony, and a very comfortable large dining area and living room. It is close to great hiking, but also a wonderful place to just enjoy and relax. The owner Becky was very attentive and everything was available that we needed to make for a great stay. Highly recommended!

Peace and Comfort

  • 5 of 5

This home is a place to regain a sense of peace and comfort in your life. Younger, more active people can use all the open space to walk, sit around a fire, rest in the hammock, and explore along the rocky ledge of Lake Superior. For us - ages 68 and 75 - this was a time of rest and recovery. The well-appointed interior of this home made us feel like it was OUR OWN home. Becky's extremely well-stocked pantry and cooking supplies made it easy to create homemade meals from scratch. And the beds....so comfortable. We filled the hummingbird feeder with nectar upon arrival, and three days later, it was gone. We thoroughly enjoyed watching a family of 5 hummingbirds chase one another around that feeder. In the evening, with a candle and a bouquet of Becky's wild flowers on the table, we enjoyed sitting at their beautiful dining room table, watching the birds, and enjoying a meal together. Priceless. And Becky might even have a special treat for you! For us, this place was perfect and I couldn't give a place higher recommendations.

In addition to fantastic scenery and bird watching right off the deck, there are miles of diverse hiking and biking trails that in the winter turn to cross country ski and snow mobile trails.

Just a 5 minute drive from the house is a beautiful water fall down an easy 300 foot path. Or you can choose from many other paths at the same location and take a moderate to more challenging hike and be gone for as long as you want. Many of the Superior Hiking Trail 'heads' are just a stones throw away.

For Downhill Skiers, we are just 2 miles from Beautiful Lutsen Mountain with beginner to Olympic style runs and for Golfers, Superior National Golf Course is 5 minutes away and offers exceptional views as you make your way from Tee to Tee.
