My husband and I purchased this home in 2005. He grew up in Coeur d' Alene but attended school in Texas. I'm an Orange County girl, that was fortunate enough to meet somebody to bring me to this beautiful part of the country! We both are employed by a major airline and spend most of our free time using up those flight benefits! We have traveled to over 80 countries, and every time we pick up some sort of artifact to display at the vacation home!
Andrew purchased this House in 2005
Why Andrew chose Garden District
It is the perfect location. Close enough to walk to everything, but far enough away that you can sleep quietly and peacefully. Coeur d' Alene has something for everybody! You will never get bored, and if for some odd reason you do, we have plenty of ideas for you. We love to share the local secrets with our guests!
What makes this House unique
The house is a mini international museum. If you look closely throughout the house you'll find Delft Ware coffee cups from Holland, a piece of the Berlin wall, a 3,000 year old ruin from the Karnak temple of Egypt, an Ostrich egg, a Hopi Indian basket, a Chinese violin, a Balinese carved Komodo dragon, the horn of a Kudu, a piece of Rome, a piece of Prague, a stair banister from a German castle and more! We have art displayed from local artists, and reproductions of all the greats-Monet, Manet, Picasso, Van Gogh, Degas, Cezanne, and much more. Have fun exploring the house, but don't forget about Coeur d' Alene! We have been to some of the worlds most famous lakes-Lake Bled of Slovenia, Lake Powell, and even the lakes of Northern Italy, and can honestly say that none compare to the beauty of Coeur d' alene. Just a short 5 min walk from the house, you will find world class swimming holes! Enjoy your trip and if there is anything we can do to help you, please let us know.

Roomy, Comfortable & Casual
Perfect property for our family reunion, cottage offers a nice space for a couple, or even a couple with small children. The floors are a little uneven for older folks, but everything was in excellent order: clean & well-furnished.
Thanks to the management for accommodating our special request!
We enjoyed our stay at your rental for our daughter's wedding!!
The house suited our purposes for the 10 days we were there, but the most important thing I would like to express is the fact that the house is not senior or handicap accessible in any way. I feel that you should express this fact on your website or you should put hand rails at the front door and down the steps in the back going out to the guest house. If someone was in a wheelchair or walker, they would have a very difficult time getting in the house. Maybe add some grab bars in the bathrooms; especially the main bath on the main floor. That shower was dangerous for seniors to climb in and out of. Maybe change the shower curtain regularly as it had mold on it because it lays in the water. We bleached it out. Secondly, the tv/internet service was difficult to maneuver around. So sorry we had to call numerous times about that. It would be nice if you would have step by step instructions typed up and laminated and have by each tv to prevent this from happening and adding limited cable would be great for guests. The refrigerator leaked so we kept a towel laying on the floor. Might have something to do with the ice, not sure. Maybe, repair and connect the ice maker. The window in the upstairs master bedroom is broken and comes completely out of its hinges. Get rid of throw rugs as they are tripping hazards for seniors. These are little things, but we bought a light bulb for the fridge, we bought a shower mat for the main bath on main floor and a sponge for the kitchen. There were plenty of towels throughout the house, but more kitchen towels would be nice. One of the sleeper beds downstairs was broken. Very important, there was a breach in the back fence behind the guest house. I put something in front of it, but our dog got out one day. Also, the fence needs repaired by and around the deck. A small dog could get out of one of those areas. The light above the bed in the guest house was not working. So sorry to go on and out, but I feel that it would be important to take care of these issues for future guests. We truly appreciate your hospitality and kindness during our stay and wish you continued success with your rental. Sincerely, Elisa K.
Thanks Angela for your review and suggestions. We realize the house is older and built in a time when there was less attention to the design and aid of the mobility challenged. We had made the conscious decision to maintain the house in its original form as we felt it was important to preserve the character of the past and wanted to provide that environment for those guests that might desired it. However we do understand that this might not best suit all guests and had hoped that the clear pictures of the clawfoot tubs and staircase would properly illustrate the potential difficulties for the mobility challenged. We also have been sure to not endorse it as such on the website, an option that is available to help consumers identify certain properties with that design element. We appreciate your suggestion on printing the TV user instructions and will be sure to include that in the future. We're glad that we were able to assist you in person, but realize a manual of sorts might too provide assistance. Additionally, thanks to your great feedback, we've repaired the downstairs bed, fence, fridge, and added towels. The upstairs window is actually not broken-just confusing. It's designed to come out for easy cleaning, however there is a small latch that keeps it in place. This must have been unlatched at some point accidently. Thanks again Angela, and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.
The house was great - the only reason it’s not a five is the WiFi didn’t work
The house is lovely. It wasn’t a fiive only because the WiFi didn’t work and the little house and one of the upstairs rooms had an unpleasant. odor. We would rent again!
Thank Toni for the review and feedback. The small house has wifi however it has a different network name than the larger house-that might have been the cause of the confusion. Sorry to hear about that. We look forward to seeing you again in the future.
Needs some TLC
Although the house did what it needed to do. We had 9 adults and 5 kids. The location was good and there were plenty beds for all to sleep. It did lack in many areas. There was ants in the kitchen, the garbage hadn’t been taken out when we got there so we had to get creative to handle that. No cable tv, the cooking utensils were lacking. No ice machine, the fridge in the main house leaked water, had to keep a towel to soak up the water. We ran out of toilet paper and paper towels.
We're happy to hear that you enjoyed our location and that there was plenty of room for your whole group. We do supply ice in the freezer considering that their isn't an automatic ice maker. Thank you for reminding guests that we have streamed television instead of cable. We have it listed as such, but some people fail to notice it. We do provide Netflix free of charge, Amazon Prime, and basic televisions stations. We have since taken care of the leaking freezer, and sugar.ants. We do supply paper towels and toilet paper, however it can sometimes be difficult to estimate the amount people are going to use-we don't want to display too much where it gets in the way. That is why we store them in an accessible closet so that guests can restock their supply as needed.
Room for Everyone!
I spent a week in Coeur d'Alene with my 3 children, their spouses, and their children at the Blue House--which is really 2 Blue Houses. This was a nostalgia trip for all of us as we spent part of every summer swimming in Lake Coeur d' Alene when they were growing up. There was room in these 2 houses for all. The location is close to downtown and in a very nice neighborhood with restaurants, a Safeway, and thrift stores. We got needed baby toys and coolers from a thrift store for our day on a rented pontoon boat. We had some problems with the internet, but Andrew, the host was quick to fix them. We had a great time.
Great location and value!
This house exceeded our expectations! The patio was perfect for our large group, and there was ample room for everyone. I would definitely recommend staying here!
