About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 2-4

This brand new apartment is inside the Castle building located at Oceanfront boardwalk and across from the famous Belmont Park. There are retailers downstairs and many shops around, bars, restaurants and much more in the Bay area. Downtown San Diego is easy to reach from here (15 minutes by car) and so are most of San Diego's attractions such as Sea World (5 minutes), Legoland (30 minutes)and the San Diego Zoo (20 minutes).

This comfortable apartment offers everything you need for a great escape right on the beach, and recently I added a portable AC inside the bedroom. You will enjoy the romantic getaways, or just the beach atmosphere in the heart of Mission Beach. This brand new apartment features a fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances and slab white granite counters. There are plasma TVs in the bedroom and in the living room - with DVD and AC in the Bedroom. The living area gives you a breathtaking ocean view. The bathroom has two sinks top and a bathtub There are washer and dryer in the unit.

Sleeping arrangements include one comfortable queen bed and a pull out sofa in the living room. This unit is ideal for a family of 4 ( 2 adults/2 kids) . No private parties with more than maximum occupancy is allowed in the unit.

There is a designated parking spot detached from the building for 1 large car or 2 small cars ( tandem parking) only, but lots of parking spaces surrounding the area - one handicapped parking across the street. We provide linens and towels, beach towels, beach toys, 2 chairs and umbrella. Wireless Internet is provided with no extra cost to you - bring your laptop! Bring your iPod/ Iphone / iPad to plug in the unit or just charge it ( charge does not support iPhone 4 model). There are security cameras outdoors and power generator in the building.

Small Pets allowed ~ needs approval from owner. Pet Policy is enforced (vaccines and flea medication up to date) There is boarding pet fee ( non-refundable) of $ 50 per dog - maximum 2 dogs ( max. 40 lbs). Pet cleaning fee of $ 195.00.

Thanks to one of our guest's suggestion, a screening door has been installed recently to allow more ocean breeze coming from the front door into the apartment.

Check my other apartment at VRBO 327740 for extra pictures and reviews from the building

Here are some details about Mission Beach and surrounding areas to help you with your decision to stay in Mission Beach:

Mission-Beach is a San Diego favorite among locals and visitors alike. It lies between Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean and has nearly two miles of beautiful white sandy beach. The area is filled with pastel colored houses, condos, old style cottages, beach apartments and hotels. The colorful Boardwalk at Mission Beach runs for three miles ending north of Pacific Beach and is always filled with bicyclists, runners, skateboarders and Rollerblade, and has designated lanes for walking. You can engage in people watching and sunbathing on Mission Beach, or the more strenuous activities of swimming, surfing, body boarding and kayaking. The southern part of Mission Beach is known for its' beach volleyball. To the east lies Mission Bay, which contains two islands with many coves and inlets, and has a large marina for pleasure boaters, and facilities for picnics, camping and fishing. One special point of interest at Mission Beach is Belmont Park, once the site of an amusement park that now is home to shops and restaurants, and a completely restored roller-coaster. This 73 foot wooden roller-coaster called the 'Big Dipper' was built in 1925, closed in 1976 and reopened in 1990. Everything is convenient for visitors to Mission Beach; just two blocks east are coffeehouses, fast food, taco shops, ethnic food or fine dining. Bicycles and in-line skates are both available for rent on the Boardwalk right below our Vacation rentals which is located inside a Mission Beach historical landmark: The Hamels Castle!

Note: Mission Beach is also known as the place for families and young groups; if you are noise sensitive you probably should research more before making a commitment to stay in this area.

Surrounding areas: Mission Bay, California (1.1 mi), Pacific Beach, California (1.3 mi), Bay Park, California (2.7 mi), Ocean Beach, California (2.7 mi), La Jolla, California (4.4 mi), San Diego, California (6.1 mi), Point Loma, California (6.8 mi)

Great beach location!

  • 5 of 5

This is a very comfortable and attractive apartment literally steps from the sand. We loved the location!! Mission beach is hopping, so there is always something to see and do. Yet the outside noise didn't bother us at all. The apartment feels secluded and is quiet when the door is shut. Several decent places to eat are right next door. Public transit is really good. We took the 8 bus right from the corner to Old Town, and then you can take the train from there to downtown, Qualcomm, and much more. This was a wonderful place that we would happily return to.

Owner's Response: Dear J, Thank you for your feedback. It sure helps others to have a better idea of the surroundings, especially when you let them know about an option to public transportation. That was awesome! Most of my renters don't use it and rely on rental cars all the way. So thank you for describing your experience with SD public transportation ( bus and trolley) . Overall I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. I personally love the way the apartment holds a lot of convenience in a small place. I am going to add that you were lucky to get one of the best sunny days in the middle of our winter... 12/29 felt like summer, didn't it? I wish you a happy new year, and please keep our location in mind when you get back to San Diego in the future. Family and friends of past guest are always welcome too ;)

Love the stay at the 1BR above Hamels

  • 5 of 5

Our family just stayed again this year in the 1BR above Hamels. We love the convenient location. The condo has all the necessary amenities. The washer/dryer were a plus. Claudia was most helpful with the condo and both Sunny and Skyler in the store were helpful with our beach rental and purchases. We can't wait to come back next year!!'

A great stay

  • 5 of 5

We were very happy with the apartment! The inside is really nice with great appliances and a lot of extras to make the stay comfortable and fun. The location is great, perfect for people watching, going to the beach, dinning and bars.

We had a very minor issue and it was addressed immediately - it was nice to know that they were easily reachable and cared.

The on site manager is located downstairs and was great. He answered our questions and gave suggestions.

The only negative thing that I can say is that outside the porch window is a loading zone so every day there are delivery trucks (beer companies, UPS, etc) making a bunch of noise. If we closed the porch door it was not too bad but we enjoyed the outside air so our door was always open.

Owner's Response: Dear Tara, Firstly, thank you for taking great care of my place and for giving the apartment 5 starts during your stay. Unfortunately, being in the center of everything has its cons and pros. You are absolutely right about the trucks in and out of the area and the impact they represent to the apartment. It's spring break season which means more city truck collecting trash, more food and drinks being delivered to the restaurants , more merchandise for the stores, etc. It's called regular Maintainance and it's part of being so close to them. I am glad to hear that your overall experience was pleasant. Thank you for letting me know about the inside of the washer. It's all taken care of by now. Hopefully you will return during another season (Oct-Feb) and let us know the difference in your stay! I do offer discounted rate for repeating customers :)

Again a awesome time!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have stayed at this beautiful one bedroom unit before and was and still are very impressed! Last visit we rented a car and never used it because everything is right there so this time we did not rent a car and never missed it. We are from western Massachusetts, very cold this time of year. The weather was perfect and we even went boggie boarding. It really is a wonderful vacation when you can just relax and enjoy were you are staying. The unit is so clean and inviting. Everything one would need is there. The owners really pay attention to details. We are planning on coming back again and again. Thank you again for a fantastic vacation. Charlie and Ginny Toole

It was a Fabulous Celebration of Life

  • 5 of 5

I wanted to visit San Diego this year to celebrate 60 years of life as a tourist. This was an awesome place to stay and do so. No rental car was needed. All transportation is close. Management was fantastic, offering a very clean, cozy and efficient apartment. The crew at Hamel’s are very willing to assist you in any questions you might have. For 9 days I felt like a Queen staying in the Castle.Thank you for your honesty, it was everything you communicated. Until next year.........

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure having you here. You and your sister were very easy going and full of life. We wish you many more years of happiness. We are always happy to have conscious and caring guests as yourself. The apartment was found a little better than it was left due to your picture contribution - it's now hung at the wall! We hope you will be one of our several guests that come back year after year. Thank you :) You will see it next time!

what a great experience!

  • 5 of 5

My sister and i came out for a 60th birthday bash.. hers! We wanted something close and convenient to everything. . And in the action. .. although it's probably louder in the summer, i loved the fact that we could see from the patio all the people walking to the beach, dogs, surfboarders, Just everything! Sitting on the patio you can see the ocean, and the roller coaster. ..the apartment itself is unbelievable! Everything is updated in very nice furnishings ... the kitchen looked small until you got in it to cook. It was perfect! We had family over and more than one was taking pictures of that kitchen! One Bathroom could be tough. . But there were 2 sinks. .so it really worked for us! I'd love to see the 3 bed. .. maybe next year!

Owner's Response: Dear sisters, we are glad that you had fun celebrating life. Thank you for keeping the apartment in great shape, and for your kind donation. I have placed it on the wall ;) skyler says hello too. Thank you for letting us know that the video wasn't working. It turned out it was unplugged from the TV. It's all good now. We hope to see you next time in the castle.
