About Stick Sandlin or Millie Shinn

Stick and Millie are fulltime residents of Harkers Island, and live right next door to the 'Beach Barn'. We feel that this might make vacationing easier for questions or inquiries about attractions, rates or other activities in or around Harkers Island and the Carteret County area. The cottage has been in the family for several years, and is now available for vacation rental. Stick grew up in and around the Wake County, NC area, while Millie grew up here in Carteret County.

Why Stick Sandlin or Millie Shinn chose Coastal North Carolina

We both love this area, and would very much like to share it with folks needing just a place to getaway for a bit, or families who would rather spend quality time with each other in a family-oriented setting.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is close to marinas, ferries, convenience and grocery stores, but isolated enough for quiet and privacy. Sit on the front porch in the morning with your coffee, and enjoy the back deck in the evening grilling and having a couple of cold beverages. All the comforts of home, away from home!!

Perfect Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED the beach barn. We had such a great time on Harkers island in this perfect little cottage. It was like being home away from home. Stick and Millie are wonderful people who make the stay even better. We didn't even want to go home, we will defiantly be back!

Wonderful Experience

  • 4 of 5

We had a blast! Millie was extremely caring and helpful the entire time we were here. We had so much room to live in and the house was fully stocked with everything, except food, of course! It was just like staying at Grandma and Grandpa's house. There was a slight odor in the house but nothing fabreeze couldn't handle! So grateful for our experience.

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time staying at the Beach Barn. The house had everything we needed. It had a very comfortable atmosphere. Loved being so close to the ferry over to Cape Lookout. The only bad part about the vacation was that we only were able to stay two nights, wish we could have stay longer! Plan on coming back again! Thanks to Millie for making us feel so welcome! Hope to see you again real soon!

Wonderful home on a peaceful island.

  • 5 of 5

This was probably the best family vacation we have ever had. I m so glad we chose this home to be the place we laid our heads after an exciting fun filled day. The owner is very welcoming, I was greeted with a hug and she was always available to answer any questions we might have. We spent the very best day on Cape Lookout and the ferry was just down the street giving us time to sleep in and still catch an early one. The home had everything you could think of needing. The kids never even set foot in the guest bedroom, opting to hang out in the living room each night instead.
