Space 1,850 sq. ft.
Property type townhome
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

3 Bedrooms + Air Mattress, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)

Historic home, in a quiet tree-lined neighborhood, 2 blocks from the heart of the action!

Elegant 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, on the 1st floor of a classic DC townhouse. Located in one of the most upscale sections of the city - the west side of DuPont Circle, in Kalorama - the safest neighborhood in DC. President Obama lives just around the corner!

The property is exceptionally large - 1850 square feet of indoor living space - featuring high ceilings, tall windows and original French doors. Enhancing those quarters are two private gardens: the courtyard for dining alfresco and the patio for conversation around the garden.

The bedrooms are nicely sized and comfortably appointed, the mattresses topped with freshly laundered linens, cleaned just prior to your arrival. The master bedroom overlooks the courtyard, and has an organic king mattress and en-suite bathroom. The second bedroom is even larger, with French doors leading out to the garden. The third bedroom is smaller and rustic, yet the glass ceiling gives you the thrill of gazing at the stars from bed.

The kitchen is fully equipped, and if you're into organics, included is a juicer and a Vitamix. Please feel free to use our spices for your cooking needs; groceries can be purchased just down the way at the corner market.

You are a short walk to hundreds of cafes and restaurants in DuPont and Georgetown, and within walking distance to the Capitol, White House, Smithsonian, Washington Monument, and the zoo.

The DuPont Metro Station is just a few blocks away, and cabs are abundant in the area.

If you are bringing a vehicle, there are two options that can be added to your quote: driveway parking can be made available for up to 2 vehicles, and any number of street parking permits can also be arranged.

What you can expect: It is my aim to provide guests five-star amenities; the same touches that I appreciate when I travel: lodging located in a gorgeous neighborhood, cleanliness, upscale linens and towels, comfortable mattresses, high-speed Internet and eclectic decor.

Please Note: I book on a first-come basis, and the furnishings are constantly evolving.

Here's what Sharon from Tennessee had to say about her stay:

Beautiful home. This is truly an elegant home located in a well-established and safe DC neighborhood in NW Washington. The photographs shown with the listing are totally accurate, but photographs cannot capture the real beauty of the home. Large walls of windows in almost every room allow you to enjoy the lovely landscaped gardens while you are inside and give you a sense of calm. Our son is an architect who works in DC and even he was amazed by the design and beauty of the home. The home was extremely clean and well-cared for, and had everything we needed. Gloria was a very gracious hostess and our only regret was that we did not get to meet her in person. We are looking forward to returning to this beautiful home on our future trips to DC.

About Gloria

I am a writer who works out of her home, and my husband is a former mayor of Kansas City and is currently a publisher in Washington, DC. We prefer quiet homes in residential neighborhoods when we travel, and offer ours to like-minded people whenever we're away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Gloria was a spectacular in absentee hostess ! Immediate responsive to any and all questions from the initial booking throughout my 4-day visit and everybody is going to have unanticipated questions in a guest house (like, what's that WiFi password again?). The house itself was in a lovely quiet side street in the city, easy to get a cab, to find a dining spot - and with the handiest tiny corner grocery store ten steps away that has all the amenities a guest could want: fruit, pastries, wine. We became quite the friends of that supplier of all things. Charming location for a special feeling that a hotel can't give for a city experience. My first experience [with a vacation rental] and I booked it for me and two high school BFFs who scattered to three different parts of the country & who get together in some city in October of every year with one each of our grown-up girls (6 of us in all). The leap of faith for a house instead of individual hotel suites turned out to be a super decision. We were all very pleased and that's not easy with reunions. Linens were there exactly as promised, kitchen and equipment all in working order, dishes and silver and so forth, all the details that one doesn't want to think about on a trip: all provided. And, it was memorable to be able to stock the kitchen and enjoy breakfast together or drinks, or dinner. Got a lot more catching up done and easy sharing of our lives than when we stayed in individual suites in hotels. The booking was my good fortune in all respects.

Great Experience

  • 5 of 5

The house was great - plenty of room to spread out, a beautiful garden behind, and lots of charm. We had 6 people ranging from 11 to 70 years old, and had plenty of space for all of us. There is one large bathroom and one smaller one; both are absolutely useable, but it probably helps to be flexible as needed. The beds were great, and the location was perfect for us. We might have heard people above us once during our 4 days there, the property felt very secluded and relaxing. Gloria was wonderfully responsive, and overall this was a great find.

A Slice of Europe in Washington, DC

  • 5 of 5

We had the most wonderful time at this home! The house reminded us of a historic villa in Italy, so much so, that we didn’t want to leave to go see the sites. The rooms were exactly as shown in the pictures, and was spotlessly clean, updated in all the right places and had a well-stocked kitchen. The courtyards and the driveway were a real bonus; though we parked the car and walked or used the metro most of the time. The neighborhood was quiet, but steps away from many great restaurants and cafes. The host went out of her way to be helpful and attentive. We highly recommend this home!

Johnson City, TN

Comfort, space, homey

  • 5 of 5

Felt like home away from home. Everything we needed for 5 adults for 4 nights. Pleasant, safe neighborhood - good walking - good location - corner market 50 steps from front door - front and back gardens with great light inside and out. Would repeat, if available, on return to DC with similar needs.
