About this property

Cortijo Lagar de Luisa is a 10.000 m2 property with easy access, surrounded by avocado trees, vineyards, almond and olive groves. An ecological vegetable garden belongs to this farmstead situated on a quiet little valley with splendid views. The Cortijo although newly built (year 2000), has followed traditional construction techniques with thick walls, baked clay floors & wooden ceilings. Its architecture is perfectly integrated into the surroundings. It boasts a spacious dwelling with independent entrance. The house is fully furnished & comfortable, has a living room-cum-kitchen, a big bedroom & bath with shower. Air condition (hot-cold) in the living room, electric heating in bed- & bathroom. TV-microwave-hairdryer. The hot water system is working with solar energy. The little village of El Borge is 1.5 km from the Cortijo; the airport 50 km, Malaga 40 km & the beach 20 km. The German-Spanish owners live on the property & are always available for any help. Children are welcome.

All the year round we have herbs to pick up, a lot of vegetable like lettuce, tomatoes, pepper,onions,spinach........ grows in our garden and our fruit trees have fruits in every season. In spring we have 'nisperos' and plums, in summer grapes and figs and in the autumn the granade apples, khakis,mangos and almonds are ready for all our guests. From November onwards the avocados are ready to be picked up and from December onwards we have a lot of oranges and mandarines which are delicious.

For bird-watchers the best time of the year is spring, as a lot of birds come in winter and stay here until May.

Pedacito de cielo (A piece of sky)

We just stayed in the Cortijo Lagar de Luisa, 8 peaceful days. Everything was just right, the weather, the room, surroundings, their owners. Juan y Mario were super kind and lovely people. Brought fresh produce from their garden, all organic and incredibly tasty. When I cooked I went for rosemary, wild garlic, thyme & parsley from their lovely garden. We sometimes went out to eat to El Borge a la cantina de Paco, super friendly bar and to Los Bandoleros (great meat dishes). Visited Frigiliana (amazing white town) and Nerja with their lovely beaches. Also went to Granada (couldn't get into the Alhambra :( but walk the old town and saw an spectacular view of ii with the snowed mountains in the back. Ate amazing 'mariscos' in Velez Malaga (La gamba dorada) and enjoyed the Blue Moon sight on our last night. To finish off, the day we went to Nerja we were so lucky to see the San Isidro party (15 of May), loads of people dressed as Andalucians, dancing and singing in their way to la Cueva de Nerja. We loved so much our time in the Cortijo too, is so quiet and lovely we will be back. GRACIAS AMIGOS. You are super hosts. We'll be back Elena y David

A very special place and wonderful hosts.

Even before we arrived Traute and Juan Antonio were looking after us, with a very efficient booking process and all the information we needed, then tips for sightseeing during our stay. Then when we arrived, Juan Antonio was waiting for us, helped with our bags and instantly made us feel so welcome and comfortable. The rooms are beautifully laid out very clean and simply decorated, everything we needed was supplied...and more. The gardens were astonishing in the abundance of fresh Figs Limes Avocados Pomegranites, all within reach of our doorstep. Each day Traute brought us baskets of fruit and vegetables to eat, and Juan Antoinio really does get fresh bread from El Borge every morning. We happily spent whole days by the lovely pool and lolling about in the gardens, but Traute is so knowledgable about the area and tempted us to explore the region and we had some great adventures too. We were very sad to leave as it was a little oasis of peace and calm, and nothing could have improved our time there. We will definitely return, and it seems a very many people who stay there become 'family' and i can see why. Thankyou to all at the Cortijo for helping make it such a fantastic holiday.

A perfect refuge for peace and relaxation.

This was like a corner of heaven. The house was lovely: simple but with everything we needed. Lots of thoughtful little touches to greet us on arrival, fruit and vegetables from the garden, a decanter of local wine and the fresh bread delivered each morning. The owners were welcoming, thoughtful and so hospitable. It was so tranquil , we normally have a 'shopping list' of places to see on holiday, but Cortijo de Louisa soon worked it's magic on us so that we rarely wanted to stray too far. For anyone who longs for peace, beauty, birdsong and to be so discreetly looked after by Traute, Juan Antonio and their family, come here. . . . Heaven awaits!

Very peaceful week

We had a fantastic week in El Borge. We were lucky enough to be there for the raisin fiesta which was great fun and highly recommended if you can catch it in late September. Traute and Juan were great hosts, so helpful and full of information about things to do in the local area, but we never felt imposed on and were left to enjoy the peaceful garden and the pool. The villa that we stayed in was very clean, had everything that we needed and was cool and comfortable during the hot days. I would recommend it for anyone who wants to get away from everything but also want to explore the surrounding hill top villages or drive to Granada at a leisurely pace. We had such a restful week that we did not want to hurry back! We would certainly return.

Garden of Eden

We have just returned from a week at the Cortijo Lagar de Luisa. It was utterly delightful, rather like staying in the Garden of Eden, surrounded by beautiful flowers and fruit trees. If that sounds fanciful, you should just visit it yourself and see! Traute and Juan Antonio were perfect hosts, greeting us with fresh fruit and vegetables and great courtesy. Juan Antonio even went down to the village every day to buy fresh bread so save us from making the trip. The house was very well fitted out with all the equipment one might possibly want (a very rare thing in a holiday house!) The location is good too, not too far from the sea or other towns and villages. We look forward to returning one day perhaps hiring the other houses for a family reunion. thank you Traute and Juan Antonio.
