Built in 1850, our wonderful colonial farmhouse offers the comfort of today while retaining the charm of an earlier time. It's perfect for a couple or family in search of a clean, modern house with beautiful gardens, a private swimming pond and a quiet location. Plus, we are an easy 5-minute drive from the village with shops, restaurants and a historic movie theater.
The house has a huge front to back living room with exposed beams and fireplace, formal dining room, modernized country kitchen with breakfast nook, great screened porch with vintage swing, huge master suite with vaulted ceiling and exposed beams, adjoining office, and a pantry and laundry room. The house is equipped with toys and games for little children but is also uncluttered and sophisticated.
The house has 1 king size bed in the master bedroom, a full in the guest room, and 2 twin beds in the children's room. The downstairs couch opens to a queen size bed. We also provide a toddler pack 'n play and an aero bed if you require additional sleeping space. It is comfortable for two or four adults and up to four kids. All bedrooms and two bathrooms are upstairs. A half-bath is downstairs.
Outside, the house is surrounded by extensive stone walls, groomed woodland and perennial gardens filled with peonies, daffodils, lilacs, tulips, iris, dogwood, oriental poppies and wisteria. We also have a fruit and vegetable garden with zucchini, strawberries, snap peas, carrots, swiss chard and summer squash. A private spring-fed swimming pond with bass and carp, and a separate koi pond, are just across the road.
Our kitchen has state-of-the-art appliances, a dishwasher, toaster, microwave and two ovens. Washer and dryer are in the pantry. There is a TV with a DVD player in the living room, and an ipod/iphone stereo dock. The house also has WiFi. A weber grill will be provided, as well as fishing rods, inner tubes, bocci, croquet, soccer goals, balls, bats and racquets. Public tennis courts are a 5-minute walk away. A tree swing, hammock and a large picnic table are also on the property. In the winter, the land is perfect for sledding and tubing.

We rented the house for a month this past summer. It is the perfect place in the perfect location, up the hill from tennis courts and town, but with a secluded feeling. The house itself is gorgeous and comfortable, with a well-stocked kitchen. Gillian was a complete pleasure to deal with, and very responsive when any little thing came up. I cannot imagine a better rental experience.
We stayed with our twin girls in the house during the week. During that time, some friends from the city came to visit. All of us preferred the house over any other destination. It is beautiful, special, every detail has been taken care of and the kitchen is just really fun for cooking among friends while the children play in the backyard. The area is fantastic and Gillian created a wonderful, upscale, childproof, environment. One in a million!
We stayed here for February vacation with our three young children and had such an amazing time. We never left the house except for skiing and dinner at the Blue Plate. The house is absolutely gorgeous with more than enough books, games and sledding right out the back door that our kids were occupied from the moment we unpacked and they did not want to leave. Comfortable, upscale and very well designed interiors made us feel like we stayed in a four star hotel. And the bathrooms and bed linens are exceptional. We are sorting through our calendar now to find another week to getaway to this property. I want to experience summer breezes from the screened porch and take a dip in the pond to cool off this summer.
We were two couples with 3 kids who stayed for a weekend at the end of summer and I have to say the entire experience was perfect. Modern baths, modern kitchen, great fireplace, and quiet but close to town location were all pluses for us. Gillian is a pleasure to deal with and the price is right! Its a perfect fit for those with kids as the kids room is right out of peter pan with tons of toys to keep them busy. The master Bedroom is Gigantic with its own private gorgeous bath.
Our family spent a great summer weekend at the house and would highly recommend it. The first good sign was the drive: under 2 hours from Brooklyn on the traffic-free Taconic parkway. Second, the house itself is incredibly cute and highly functional. The bedrooms were simple and nice, and the bathrooms and kitchen were mint. Our kids quickly found tons to do on the grounds - swimming, soccer in the yard, tire swing, watching fireflies from the screened in porch. Quick walks to town and to the view over the hill were also great diversions. We will definitely be back!
We stayed with my young son and it was just perfect. The property was great... we swam, played ball, lounged in the hammock. My son loved the kids' room and meals at the nook table were super easy. The living room is split nicely with an adult grouping on one side and a comfy area for kids on the other. At night we hung out on the enclosed porch without having to worry about mosquitoes. We also visited the cute town during their food festival and were surprised to find such a wide selection for such a little place - grabbed a picnic and ate it in the kids' park downtown. Truly a perfect get away - and really convenient by train as well, so friends could join later!
