Renovated 2BR, 2 Ba + Den Carmel Charmer - Gingerbread Cottage

Originally built in 1937, the Gingerbread Cottage is ideally situated less than a half mile from the Carpenter Street/Highway 1 intersection allowing for easy access to all the sights and attractions on the Monterey Peninsula. The gate in the large privacy fence opens to a stone paver landscaped patio which gets plenty of mid day sun.

Upon entering the home you will find a cozy comfortable living room featuring a thermostatically controlled gas fireplace and a 42 inch flat panel 'smart' television. Or if you prefer to bring along your favorite music, listen on the Bose Wave sound system (CD's) or Bluetooth sound bar. On your right will be the office/den with a desk and a queen size sofa bed if additional sleeping arrangements are needed. This room can become private simply by closing the pocket doors.

The well equipped kitchen features all new stainless steel appliances including a refrigerator with ice maker, a dishwasher, microwave and gas stove. To the right of the bay windowed dining area is the full size washer and dryer and entrance to the second bath and second queen sized bedroom.

Moving past the dining area is a sunroom/sitting area outside the master bedroom which features a king bed. The master bath has a walk-in shower, separate toilet area and a walk in closet.

Virtually all Monterey Peninsula activities and attractions are within 10 minutes from the property conveniently located less than half a mile from the Carpenter Avenue/Highway 1 intersection. Ocean Avenue in Carmel is less than a mile away and within five miles of the home is the Lodge at Pebble Beach, the Monterey Wharf, Cannery Row and the Monterey Aquarium, and the Crossroads and Del Monte Shopping Centers. Add a few more miles heading south and you can enjoy many photo opportunities of Big Sur along the way.

We loved staying here!! We love Carmel, and consider this our second home, but this is the first time we have stayed in a house.. and what a house!!! Having stayed in several VRBO properties, this is by far the best we have stayed in. The house is So well equipped. Little things, like having dishwasher liquid, washing powders shampoo and conditioners, salt and peppers - all so useful and the little things you may have either forgotten or you don’t really want to buy for just 7-10 days. Comfortable beds, the washer and dryer were very efficient. Hot water. Plenty of towels, plates, glasses. All the small things that make a holiday better and easier and like having a home from home. The house is perfectly situated in downtown Carmel, you can walk to town and the beach if you want.. a easy walk in.. A uphill walk back ; ). A gorgeous sunny garden to sit in and my favourite part… hummingbirds that visit!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the house, truly a gem of a find and we hope we will return on our next trip “home”. Thanks Bob.

Three Sisters

The property was quite comforbable and we settled in quickly. Kitchen was fullly stocked somhad no problems cooking some meals in. We had trouble with television so gave up on it. We did fine without it just played cards and talked, which is how it was supposed to be. Had a great time and would recommend to others.

Cottage in Carmel

We loved our stay here for the AT&T Pebble Beach golf tournament. Perfect location to go to the tourney and spend time in Carmel. We visited Monterey, Santa Cruz, and the beautiful coast. We happened to be there during a huge wind storm and lost power for the entire last day, fortunately, the cottage had a gas fireplace, and lantern that helped us stay warm and see where we were going. Unfortunately, we started a load of wash before the power went out and the door on the washer had a lock on it, power did not come back on before we checked out. Our clothes will hopefully be shipped to us, we left a note but could not get in touch with the property manager, possibly because of the lack of cell service. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we get our clothes! Would definitely stay here again because the place is wonderful and we have unique memories of our time there!

The Gingerbread Cottage was originally built in 1937 as a two bedroom, one bath cottage which was perfect for Barrie Hart Froese's first home in her hometown of Carmel while serving as a vice principal at Carmel Middle School. She moved to San Francisco, met her husband Bob and has also lived in Barrington, IL and now in Montgomery, AL but has always kept this home as a rental.

As the old saying in real estate goes, Location, Location, Location. Virtually all Monterey Peninsula activities and attractions are within 10 minutes from the property conveniently located less than half a mile from the Carpenter Avenue/Highway 1 intersection. What makes this property unique

In 2014, the decision was made to totally renovate the house and expand it to its current configuration. All that was kept were three of the outside walls and the original roofline - and of course the gingerbread woodwork on the outside of the house. While still maintaining the cottage atmosphere, the house has all new stainless steel appliances, a full size washer/dryer and WiFi throughout.
