Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cabin in Wells

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Sleeps 5

Newly constructed log sided cabin with all new appliances and furnishings. Private dock on Lake Algonquin with kayaks and a canoe for your use and a three minute walk to the Town Beach (we'll even supply a wagon to transport those beach chairs, cooler and beach toys). One mile from the boat launch.

One bathroom with tub and shower and washer/dryer. Fully furnished modern kitchen with stainless electric stove, microwave and refrigerator. Living room with 32' flat screen TV with built in DVD player, Dish Network, WiFi and furnished with unique Adirondack style furniture.

A full size screened in porch is perfect for reading, relaxing (or maybe napping) in the afternoon or a peaceful dinner in the evening. The kids will probably want to sleep out there so don't forget the air mattress and sleeping bags.

Take a short walk to Torts Ice Cream Shop or the Community Hall for tennis, basketball or the playground. Enjoy dinner at the Alpine Restaurant and don't miss the experience (and great food) of stepping back forty years into an authentic, friendly Adirondack family owned diner at the Hope Diner just five miles south of town.

We are about a 1 hour scenic drive to Lake George and The Great Escape Theme Park and the Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake so you can take a day trip and still return to the peace and quiet of your cabin in the woods.

We are located in the heart of the Southern Adirondacks. Providing lakes to swim, fish and boat in, mountain ranges and water falls to photograph, back roads to explore, the freshest air that you ever breathed and on a clear night an array of stars that challenge the imagination.

We provide an ideal cabin for the family that wants to experience an Adirondack vacation in the woods with the convenience of nearby lake access, hiking, boating or just exploring. An experience that will keep you coming back year after year.

Beautiful Cabin

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cabin. It is nicely situated in the woods yet not far from Rt. 30 & many hiking opportunities in the area. It was clean, comfortable & had a great shower. We liked the lovely Adirondack decor. The only reason I did not rate it with 5 stars is that there is no table inside that 4 people can sit at for a meal. There is a card table on the screened in porch but, since we were there in September, it was a little too cool to be out there to eat. Tray tables are provided but that's not the same as sitting down together (there were 4 of us). I think if we had been there in warmer weather, this would not have been an issue.

Rustic luxury

  • 5 of 5

Such a wonderful weekend with the family. The cabin is just so cute, yet so accommodating. You can tell that everything is done well for comfort and convenience and that Susan and Gerry put serious investment into "the little things" that can make or break a vacation. We arrived during a power outage to the whole area, but you wouldn't know it because they have an emergency 11 KV propane powered generator on side, which was humming away until the power grid came back online later that evening. Gerry talked us through how to use the television, late in the evening and the wifi kept the kids happy before bed. Everything is clean, modern and convenient. My daughter wanted to MOVE there (She's 10, but was having a total Hansel and Gretel moment). Of note, the units are not directly on the lake, but that's fine, quick walk down the driveway and you're there. Bring food, in fact, bring everything. Wells has a general store...very general, but that's life as one would expect in the Adirondacks. I definitely recommend hiking up to Auger Falls (Easy hike, but bring boots) as well as other outdoor adventures (We headed to Howe Caverns on the way back to NYC - about 2 hours away). Otherwise, bring some firewood. As John Lennon once said "Time you enjoyed wasting was not wasted".

A wonderful weekend!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I shared a wonderful weekend at the cabin. Everything was clean, neat, organized, and exactly as described by the owners. We packed all of our groceries for the weekend, which was a great idea as there are very limited options in Wells and Speculator. We hiked on Saturday in Hope, NY, and Gerry was extremely helpful with providing information on other hikes in the area. Overall it was extremely relaxing - we saw plenty of wildlife, soaked up the quiet and just overall enjoyed being out in nature. We would definitely come back for a longer stay.

the cabin was perfect, would have liked being closer to the water, but we had a wonderful time.

  • 5 of 5

please explain that the cabin is not actually on the water but up the driveway and across the street from the lake. the picture of the kayaks at the dock makes you believe it is right there, down from the cabin. wasn't an access problem for us, but anyone not able to walk up a steep driveway wouldn't be able to get down and back from the lake. if you're not interested in going on the lake then definitely go to ruby hill!

A cozy little cabin in the woods -- with ALL the amenities!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time renting from Gerry and Sue at Ruby Hills Cabins, and this time we snagged BOTH cabins so we could invite more family! The cabins themselves are cozy, but really make the most of all available space -- a small living room, bedroom, kitchen, and loft were comfy for two adults and two kids, and the screened in front porch easily accommodated card games and conversations with 6-8 people. We spent lots of family time around the fire pit each night, and many hours on the lake, enjoying the free canoe and kayaks.

But it's the little touches that really make Ruby Hills special. The hand carved walking sticks hanging by leather thongs near the front door. The color coordinated metal marshmallow skewers left by the firepit. The 6 oz container of REAL maple syrup on the kitchen counter, made right there in Wells. And the first roll of toilet paper, just in case! I can't imagine outfitting a cabin in a friendlier fashion.

When you stay at Ruby Hills, it's as if you own your own little cabin on the lake… but with none of the hassles of mortgage, insurance, or maintenance. We will DEFINITELY be back!

Overall: had a great week together! Had to do a bit more traveling than we thought we would have to but it didn't bother us too much!

Ruby Hill Cabin: the cabin was the perfect size for our family of 4 (both our children are in their 20s)! It was comfortable in every way for our week stay! We really loved the front porch and the owners aren't kidding, pack an air mattress to sleep out there (we regret we didn't!). Washer and dryer was wonderful to have so we could keep our beach towels clean. We loved the fire pit, perfect to end the day! The kayaks were great and Gerry even allowed us borrow one of them for our two day trips! Charcoal BBQ was great each night for cooking dinner!

The Lake: you don't technically have that perfect lake view from the cottage. The lake is blocked by some trees but a very short walk down the drive way and across the street you are at the dock or town beach! We swam right off the dock & it was great! Not a huge deal but not right on the lake like we would have preferred. Lake was clean and very refreshing!

The Town: not much going on in the town of Wells. Very small general store. We didn't eat anywhere in the town...Not really any bars or restaurants that caught our attention. Speculator is not far, about 20 minutes and there's a small grocery store, ice cream shop, good pizza place and a gas station. Would recommend brining most of your groceries with you!

Surrounding Areas: Gorgeous Lake Pleasant is in Speculator, we kayaked the river and ate lunch next to the lake! The river was fantastic...spent about half a day for the kayaking & lunch on the lake. We also took a day trip to Old Forge, about 1.5 hours away- kayaked the Moose River and spent the evening walking around the cute stores.

Adventuring: Definitely a lot of great places to drop our kayaks in..that was our favorite part! Hiking, there was a few spots right in Wells but a bit of a challenge to find them! Town Beach was nice and super clean! Great spot to plop your chair and relax for an afternoon!

All in all, would recommend this and we would come back! Owners were great and friendly! The cabin was spotless when we walked in. Had everything you could need to cook, sleep and be comfortable!
