Overall the place was very good. It is well equipped, and it's a friendly little community on a pretty lake. It would have been nice if the linens were on the beds for us, and there were a few items of trash under one of the beds. But these are quibbles. For the most part we were very happy with our stay.
I'm truly appreciate Hilary's attention to detail and her taking care of the cottage. There was pretty much everything that we needed: three bedrooms, full kitchen/living room, full bathroom, screened porch, kayak, canoe with paddles, charcoal grill, paper towels, tissues, utensils, pots and pans, spices and olive oil for cooking, candles, etc. She also has tons of board games, some books, and small TV+dvd player (although we never turned it on). We did not need to bring anything, although we did.
The lake is beautiful and very clean. The cottage is located about 20 feet from the water and about a minute walk from sandy beach with a pier. There is also a hammock with is awesome to take a nap in or read the book during the day. We grilled a lot and had all of our meals on the porch. It's very quiet and relaxing. If you want to get away from insanity of everyday life this is the place to be. We went swimming several times a day. We also did some fishing. We did it mostly for fun and we let all the fish th go. They were pretty small. It's harder to catch big fish during the summer. You may need to buy charcoal and firewood but those are available pretty much everywhere in the area. We saw loons, bald eagle, a turtle, and fish... We also saw several moose and fox but that's was on the way back from Canada. We took a day trip to Quebec City (about 3.5 hours one way from Embden). We also went to Acadia National Park, which is about 2 hours away.
There is cell coverage in the area but with Sprint it was roaming. Since most of today's plans include free roaming this should not be a problem. Overall, I had good time and I am looking forward to coming back.
We had a great time at this cabin right on Embden Pond lake. Driving from Tennessee, other friends joined me from Nova Scotia and it was perfect! Location on the lake allowed for access to swim area and boat dock. Breakfast and dinner on the screened in porch afforded some great views and sunset experiences. Loved the loons calling at dusk. Clear water allowed you to see quite a distance and the swim area was excellent. The cabin was great! Sleeping in comfortable beds made for great nights. Kitchen set up allows for everyone to be a part of things going on. All in all, it was one of the best experiences I have ever had in Maine. Love Embden Pond lake. Would encourage anyone to rent this cabin.
Located in beautiful Kennebec Valley. Access to whitewater rafting, fishing, snowmobiling, hiking (short drive to Appalachian Trail), and skiing. A thirty five minute drive to Sugarloaf ski mountain and golf club, the largest ski resort in the state of Maine, as well as easy access to three local ski mountains. Twenty minutes to Skowhegan Fair.
