About Ken

We are a (he) Firefighter and (she) Nurse. With grown children. We love the forest and wanted to own a bit for ourselves.

Ken purchased this cottage in 1996

Why Ken chose Northeast Washington

We always wanted to own a secluded piece of forest someplace. We have family in the region and chose the Newport area because of the unspoiled, 'untouristy' nature of the area. We built this cottage ourselves while commuting to it 800 miles. It took 4 years to complete.

What makes this cottage unique

We chose to buy this particular piece of land because of the unique quality of easy access by paved all weather maintained road but still secluded in the forest (you can see no other home from ours) It is covered mostly by large mature pine and fir trees

Overall fits our needs well but.....

  • 4 of 5

As a fall/winter renter we really miss having the wood stove operational. It hasn't worked for the last two years.

Owner's Response: We are very sorry about the access to the wood stove. Unfortunately, due to several incidents involving the wood stove, we had to discontinue it's use. We will not be allowing it's use in the future due to the past problems.

Good stay

  • 4 of 5

Overall good stay. Pros: quiet, clean, well equipped kitchen. Cons: not much to do close by, needs a couch, lots of beetles inside (like a few dozen)- presumably due to it being cold out. About 1 hour away from Silverwood.

As close to home as one can get.

  • 5 of 5

Stop, look no further. This is the one you want. And if you are a nautical patriot with a thing for bird houses, you will love the decor. Bring real food, the kitchen is great.

Disapointed

  • 1 of 5

Could not make contact with owner, did not know address or key code until 2 days before date. Found the cabin very cluttered with collections and bedroom ceiling made the room feel like th ceiling was closing on a person. This is not at all like other VRBO rentals we have stayed in. Will not come back.,

Owner's Response: We sent arrival instructions with the initial acceptance e-mail. This guest requested the key code 2 subsequent times. All the information was provided at each request. This review is un-fairly low. All the rooms are exactly the same as the pictures in the ad. No one should be suprised when they arrive.

Great cottage for any season

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this cottage in November, and back in July, and both seasons are delightful. The location and amenities suit us well to get away from city life to unwind and relax.

The posting details and photos are accurate and comprehensive giving you all you need to know about this property.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was just as we hoped. It was easy to find and after we found the correct code, easy to access. The cottage was just as the pictures present, it was clean and comfortable and oh, so quiet! We saw deer. A hummingbird visited us while we were sitting on the deck, and even a family of wild turkies came by. Thanks so much for a lovely stay, we enjoyed it immensely!
