The apartment is renovated and furnished with great care. Ideal for a couple with two adult children, or eventually two couples (but consider that the second room is smaller and has twin beds) a bathroom in the master bedroom with a great shower and a second bathroom with bathtub. Beautiful and very large garden with sea views. Located at the top of Porto Santo Stefano, away from the main road but with basic services, restaurants and shops at few minutes walking. The center is within walking distance with a nice (about 15 minutes) but difficult steps. By car (private parking garage with direct access to the appartment, I get in with a big car but for some guests it is difficult to get it) you can visit, in addition to the beautiful beaches of the archipelago and, throughout the wonderful countryside of the Maremma, with its picturesque medieval villages such as Capalbio, Pitigliano, the spa Saturnia, good food, wine, olive oil.
The appartment is well suited for2 adults and 2 children. The terrace and garden are great and the location in the village is OK. The entrance road is steep and narrow as is the parking space in the garage but not too difficult to cope with. The noises and rumour however coming from the neighboring appartments above already starts at 6 AM which is not our normal holiday wake-up time. The property is on the ground floor of an appartment building and therefor not the place for people who are looking for a quit time.
It was unforgettable summer vacations for sure!
The house is very comfy, tastefully furnished and it's big enough for 4 adults.
Very close to the beach, wonderful sea-view from the terrace, flowers all-over in the garden. Mini-market is in a few steps down the street.
Giuseppe (the owner) was very friendly. He gave us many useful advices about what we had to see in Maremma area and in Porto S.Stefano, of course. Btw Porto S.Stefano is located close to Rome, Florence, Siena, Pienza. So if you will come here by car, you'll discover all the most interesting attractions in Tuscany region.
A few words about Italy. It's amazing country, where live very hospitable people. I will definitely come back here again.
My girlfriend and I (both 30 years old from San Francisco and Washington DC, respectively)had spent a week in Capri and Ravello in 5 star hotels and I was a bit worried that renting an apartment might be a letdown. It certainly was not, as we loved this apartment. The inside is clean, modern, full of light, impressive bathrooms. The terrace and garden are enormous and the view beautiful. We loved the market just around the corner for prepared vegetables and sweet cherry tomatoes, and the neighborhood butcher had great eggs, veal and pork chops. We cooked most nights, also getting fresh seafood from the fishermen's market. The steep walk down to the water, where the bars and restaurants are, is about 10 minutes if you find the shortcut through the parking lot, and about 15 on the way back up. The apartment is very well situated if you have a car, and we took several great day trips to Siena, Pitigliano and Porto Ercole.
A few notes for very picky travelers. There is no air conditioning and the apartment can get a bit warm at night but there is usually a nice breeze so while you can't crank up the AC and put on extra blankets, you should be able to sleep as comfortably as we did. We kept the windows and doors open much of the day to enjoy that lovely breeze.
One final good comment--the owner (Giuseppe) was EXTREMELY quick to answer any emails we sent with questions or concerns. Within 5-10 minutes we usually had a response--whether it be about the oven or the great sound system.
We would definitely come back to this apartment, we would always bring a Smart car, we would plan to cook half of the evenings, and we might even stay longer than a week.
This appartment is in an ideal location to explore the surrounding area. I loved the modern decor and the views. I felt like a real Italian when I visited the coffee shop (a few steps away) for breakfast each morning. The local restaurants are all good and the steep walk up-hill afterwards helped to work off my food. The fish stall in the harbour sells the freshest fish to BBQ back at the appartment. We took the ferry to Giglio for a lovely day out. We sampled a variety of local beaches and further afield we visited the hot springs at Saturnia which we were suprised to find were free! The owners were very helpful and the property was clean.
Dear customers, please remember to bring with you a spry anti mosquitoes , no mosquito-nets on the windows so we have been bitten by a dozen mosquitoes per night . No air conditioning so you’re obliged to stay with open windows all day & night (July hot week +30-35°C). Unfortunately we found a very dirty apartment, cobwebs a little everywhere, infested by insects of various types (spiders, small armadillos, ants, mosquitoes ... ), the second day of our “nightmare” we have found a 2-inch cockroach who had taken refuge in a new shoe of my wife placed near the bed where we slept: this has finally ruined our holiday. In all the corners of rooms there was a lot of Baygon white powder, so we also had to breathe in a not-healthy environment for all the holiday. During our week we also suffered the theft in the garage, nothing of dramatic but the adapter shuko connecting the plug of the washing machine was gone, for the true there was another available in the apartment, so the washing machine was ok w/o other problems. Last … The backyard that is proudly well described, really speaking is a desert w/o grass and at my opinion not maintained by months.
The Monte Argentario is a great Italian location all year long.
During the summer you can choose many wonderful beaches or reach the 'Giglio' island in 40 minutes of boat.
There are many interesting ancient villages like 'Capalbio' , 'Pitigliano' or the terms of 'Saturnia'.
The countryside Maremma, is famous for the view, food, olives oil and wine.
