Property is on 30 wooded acres 1/2 mile from city limits, 1 mile from Southern Illinois University campus. No thru-traffic and very private wooded grounds.
If you are looking for peace and quiet it is a good choice. It is close to town, stores and restaurants. Beds were fine and having the loft was a plus. Nice to have washer and dryer.
The cabin was ok. We were in town for a wedding and part of the family was staying in cabin one. Cabin is rustic and needs some of the brush around the outside cut down so you can actually see the water. We had to buy batteries so the tv remote would work, the refrigerator only had a couple of shelves and had a full pan of water from leaking, tv in bedroom only good for DVDs and only had one roll of toilet paper.
If coming back to the area I would probably not stay here.
As a family of four and with visitors, the place was very nice! There's even a sectional piece under the stairs which worked well for my littlest child to nap. The washer, dryer and location close to Carbondale was awesome. We enjoyed exploring the property and Tom is easily accessible. Cons: leaky and soaked refrigerator made storing food a bit annoying and messy. Also, the place needs to be cleaner inside. There were cobwebs all over, dirty floors, table and cabinets. The grill needs a deep cleaning. The cabin is rented often, so the uncleanliness was a surprise. We spent time upon arrival cleaning it. Again, these cons are minor in comparison to the cabin's pros!
My wife and I stayed in Cabin 2 for our anniversary. It was a nice area surrounded by trees but the cabin also had all the modern amenities with it. Bed was super comfortable. Tom was a great guy and helped us with all of our questions. I would definitely recommend staying here.
I searched the Internet for a place that my husband and I could talk and reconnect. And, we found it at Tom's cabin. Our I intention was to spend the entire time in the cabin. Make all of our meals and discover where we ventured off on to different paths. We were able to accomplish this and rediscovered a new respect and love for one another. If you are looking for a great place. Nothing fancy but has all the necessities, this is your place. Thanks Tom! We are already talking about our next visit
We stayed in Cabin (3) for the first couple of days and since Cabin 3 was already booked out for the next few days we also stayed in Cabin (2) afterwards. Albeit I did not stay in Cabin (1), I was able to see the interior and it looks really nice, well kept and has a little pond as well. Being an alumni of SIU, I wanted to stay close to campus. I met Tom Egert, the owner upon my arrival. Tom is a great guy...upfront, honest and did everything he could in order to make staying in both cabins a great experience. He offers paramount customer service! Since I was traveling with my dog, there were very few places (if any) to stay with a dog in Carbondale or anywhere near there for that matter and that is how I connected with Tom's cabins. The cabins are rustic and in a great location!...only about 1 mile to campus and was a great place in order to walk the dog in the mornings. Perfect location...in a quiet, wooded area yet very close to town, campus and also very close to a myriad of hiking trails. I will be back!
