Each house has a large living-dining room, 2 or 3 twin bed rooms, 1 master double bed room, a fully equipped kitchen and 2 or 3 bathrooms. Central heating and TV cable are included and the houses are cleaned twice a week. The 14x6m pool is available for guests. Horseback riding lessons are available upon request and excellent trekking can be enjoyed in close contact with nature. The famed 'Queijo de Azeitão' cheese is produced in the estate and is available for sale.
We had a great holiday the first year we came and have returned several times since.
This time it was mid December and we really enjoyed loads of sunshine in this marvellous corner of unspoilt Europe.
The house was impecable as always and we appreciated the proper central heating.
Calhariz really is genuine portuguese contryside at it's best, a place with a special inspiring quality, with rolling hills teaming with wildlife and the most amazing coastline. We hear it is soon to be classified as World Heritage site.
Thank you once again to all the team for always being so welcoming and looking after us with such care.
My husband and I and our children spent a truly great time at Casa de Calhariz !
From Lisbon airport it took us only 40 min. to arrive (and we respected the speed limit on the motorway!)
The setting is beautiful and the grounds are vast.
The house was impecably clean, very well -maintained, super comfortable and the decor charming.
The customer service could not have been more efficient and friendly.
The restaurants they recommended were so delicious and reasonably priced that we ended up not resisting going out for meals every day, although the kitchen was big and well equiped and the excellent supermarket only 10 min, away.
The beaches are simply gorgeous, clean, and not overcrouded even in the peak of summer and one can rent big parasols wich a life guard will set up just for you.
The sea water is so clear, we even saw a large family of dolphins: 16 of them including a baby dolphin!
The dinossaur footprints were another big hit. (20 min. away)
We visited a few of the truly superb historical sites and realised there are still so many more.
As busy city parents we were delighted for a chance to give the children a terrific time in contact with nature and the sea and found out that at Calhariz we also were able to relax and re-energize :-) a rare experience for parents with young children!
We are very much looking forward to our next stay this year.
The children would not have it otherwise and neither would we :-).
We highly recommend Casa de Calhariz !
