Growing up in Minnesota, and living in New England most of my adult life, I was delighted when friends brought me to this colonial treasure, San German. I find Casa Rosa is perfect for enjoying my friends in town and escaping regularly to the most beautiful beaches.
Christine Austin purchased this house in 2007
My dear friends have been coming their whole lives to the SW area of Puerto Rico. They have many deep connections to this community and wanted me to experience this unique, beautiful town. As it happened, while visiting for the first time, I offered to buy their house. They agreed and purchased a big 'project' house which is now finished and only a block away. So lucky for me.
I love sitting on the balcony to enjoy the lights and the events on the plaza, as music from the plaza and the church across the street floats on the cool morning or evening air. Often we take a walk down the street to eat, watch a performance in the plaza or buy home made ice cream made from local fruit. Sometimes we eat drink coffee with flan, play dominos in the plaza and watch the evening promenade. It's so relaxing.
We have been here for nearly a month. This southwestern corner of Puerto Rico is beautiful, with 20 / 30 minutes to glorious beaches and 60 minutes to mountains. San German is a wonderful town. Very friendly people, old and preserved houses, quiet, shops... The house is perfect! All the amenities we needed; comfort for old and young (grandchildren visited); every room is attractive and comfortable. We can't imagine a better place for vacation.
My son recently graduated from the Inter American University in San German,PR. My family and I stayed at casa rosa and it was absolutely perfect. The location was great, you could walk everywhere and the beaches near by are beautiful. It was such a joyous time for all of us and it couldn't have happened without casa rosa. Our memories of our vacation will always be cherished. I would recommend casa rosa to everyone, especially to families with a student at the university. We look forward to another casa rosa vacation. To Christine and Deborah thank you for everything.
We will stay at Casa Rosa again next time we come! Casa Rosa was "muy tranquilo" (very tranquil) and restful.
Nestled in the historic area of San German, the house is on a cobble stone street, one block up from the plaza. The house is clean, comfortable, open and airy, with a covered outdoor kitchen that gets wonderful breezes. My favorite was sitting on the front balcony listening to the faint sound of the (occasional) music float up from the plaza. The plaza is a lovely place to hang out in the evening. There is a kiosk there which serves flan and coffee as people socialize, play games, use the public WiFi, or watch the occasional movie on a screen they set up. Don't miss the Kings Creams Gelato shop down the street! We have searched for a better Coconut Gelato (even in Italy) and have yet to find one! We are early risers, so the morning service church bells didn't bother us at all. Sipping our coffee on the balcony listing to the sing-song chanting of the service was a nice way to start to day. Just around the corner is a small grocery which has most everything you need.
From San German we traveled to 4 different beaches during our stay, all about 20-40 minutes away. Each one more beautiful than the last with hardly anyone on them! Roadside Roast Chicken with Casava and Tostones picked up on the way to the beach makes for a delicious and super easy picnic lunch!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Rosa. It was a great getaway for the two of us. The space was clean & bright, beautifully decorated, with comfortable beds & plenty of room to relax. There is a wonderful tropical garden that we enjoyed immensely. It is a short drive to a beautiful secluded beach with emerald waters where we hung a hammock & spent the day reading & walking. Be sure not to miss the local vendor cooking fresh rotisserie chicken in roadside tent, it was out of this world. Fresh fruits were available also. Looking forward to my next visit.
San German is ideally situated within 15 - 30 minutes of the 6 best beaches on the SW coast of Puerto Rico. For families, your best bet are the western beaches of Boqueron and Combate with white sand and full service beach. For those more adventurous, the beaches of Guanica and Cana Gorda are perfect for water sports or just walking. Lying exactly SW of San German, the SW corner of Puerto Rico, the perfect crescent beach at Punto Faro (lighthouse bay) will make all your postcard dreams come true... it is also a nationally protected nature preserve perfect for bird watching. In Pargara bay, 20 minutes south of the casita, you will find a complete center for all water sports, fine dining and most especially in the evening touring a bioluminescent bay, one of a handful in the world.
