Five Star

  • 5 of 5

Spotless modern annexe to a larger house with every facility you could possibly want. Situated in a peaceful valley between Edinburgh and Peebles and just perfect for visiting Edinburgh or the beautiful Borders country. With quality furniture, comfortable bedding and full entertainment facilities for wet days with large screen TV, radio, CD, DVD and even a games consul and a swing, climbing ropes and rope ladder to keep the children happy outside there's something for everyone. There's also a nice clean gravelled area outside with a good sized table and chairs and sun loungers with plenty of space for private off road parking in the drive. We were lucky with the weather and ate breakfast outside every morning but if not a mile or so down the road the Scotts Pine café does a great breakfast or lunch, we had lunch, they've a wood burner here if chilly or tables outside if not.

David the house owner is a great character and will be as discreet or available as you want, he's a one man tourist office and will be able to advice you on the wealth of outdoor pursuits available in the area, mountain biking, fishing, walking, hiking and if you bring your own bikes you've access to a lock up garage for them and laundry room if things get wet.

We went mainly for the Edinburgh Festival as we'd seats at the Tattoo (book a year in advance if your interested) which was fantastic but quickly realised there's so much to see and do we could have stayed much longer. A visit to the famous Rosslyn Chapel of Dan Brown Da Vinci Code fame is well worth a visit and quite close or walk to the nearby Portmore reservoir or along the old (closed) Edinburgh to Peebles railway line almost from the doorstep. Whatever you do, I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Therefore I agree with every other review on this superb accommodation and yes, you really can lay in bed and watch the birds on the feeders strategically placed at the windows!

Everything you could possibly need.

This property is great, the owner has put a lot of thought into making this house very well equipped for its guests. The beds are very comfortable with good linen and towels and lovely thick bath mat. My son unfortunately broke his knee cap just before we left so we couldnt do the things we wanted to do but the playstaion and table football was great and kept him amused for hours. There was a lovely food hamper on our arrival which was a lovely touch even doggy treats for my two dogs aswell as dog bowls. The kitchen is a great size we took our big dog cage for our dogs and this fitted great in the kitchen. The coat hooks in the kitchen were fab not many places have these and its great to keep the place tidy. The bird feeders outside the windows are another great idea we sat watching the birds for a long time. This property is joined onto the owners house but David was very helpful and we never felt intruded in anyway. I could say alot more but would run out of room. I would definitely stay here again and I am very fussy as I am a supervisor for a company who goes around checking holiday homes making sure they are clean and everything is up to scratch so I can not switch off when on holiday! Having said that this had top marks.I hope lots more people have happy holidays here and wish David good luck with the cottage in the future.

Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

Excellent stay and great host. Had an amazing time with the family and nothing was too much for David, greeting with a surprise welcome basket which everyone in the family loved it. David is very knowledgeable and made our itinerary much easier.

Touchable distance from Edinburgh, very scenic and relaxing throughout. Highly recommended to anyone especially for families.

Most amazing holiday cottage.

  • 5 of 5

Our whole family thoroughly enjoyed our stay, everything was perfect. The location is perfect, you feel as though you are in the middle of nowhere with lovely walks from the doorstep. Edinburgh and Glasgow are easily accessible by car for day trips.

Pine Lodge has everything you could need / want, with a lot of extra finishing touches, it was the cleanest property we have stayed in. An added bonus is the laundry room / bike storage which is great for storing all your wet clothing / footwear.

David and his family are one of the nicest families we have ever met, nothing is too much trouble, David genuinely wants you to thoroughly enjoy your holiday. You wouldn't actually know they lived next door as you don't hear a sound or even know there's anyone there.

We loved the bird feeders at the Windows, we have never managed to get as close to such a variety of birds and hear their chirping so clearly.

We would defiantly recommend this property.

Thank you so very much for a lovely holiday.

Lovely Place, Ideal Location

  • 5 of 5

We picked this place as my husband had business in Edinburgh. We wanted to stay on the outskirts as we had our dog with us. The location was ideal as it was roughly 18 miles into Edinburgh and there were pleanty if close walks to keep the dog active!

The Lodge is perfect for either one nights stay or a couple of weeks, with all the amenities available.

We will definitely be returning, not just for business reasons but for a relaxing break too.

Pine Lodge is nestled in a woodland setting with bird life such as nuthatches, woodpeckers, owls, and buzzards viewable around the cottage. Local amenities include the world-renowned Glentress and other Seven Stanes Mountain Bike Centres, Rosslyn Chapel (As featured in the Da Vinci Code ), and the town of Peebles with its characteristic shops, pubs, and restaurants. There is also a good choice of restaurants and pubs not far from the cottage, including the Whitmuir Organic Restaurant and Farm Shop (Voted Best Organic Shop in the U.K.). Other local interests include the Dawyck Botanic Garden, and the Kailzie Gardens where watching Ospreys is possible. Fishing is available on the River Tweed by daily permit or at the many local fisheries and reservoirs, and for golfing enthusiasts numerous courses are situated in and around Edinburgh including Glencorse which was voted one of Scotland's hidden gems by U.S. Sports Illustrated. Bus stops nearby the cottage also provide alternative transport to Edinburgh and the rest of the Borders.
