Wonderful stay in Arles!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved this Arles townhouse! It was very clean with extremely comfortable beds (lovely bedding), and had everything we could possibly need. It is a charming and beautifully decorated home. The kitchen was well equipped (we cooked often as we were staying during a quiet time of year) and so cheerful! The separate washer and dryer was wonderful. We left Arles with suitcases of clean clothes! Clear instructions for all appliances made for frustration free use! There are many restaurants, shops, bakeries and grocery stores within easy walking distance.

We rented a car which we parked in the spot (5-10 minute walk away) provided by the owners. We did a number of easy day trips, our favorites being, Carrieres de Lumieres, Château des Baux de Provence, Pont du Gard, and Abbey of Montmajour. We also enjoyed the local attractions, such as the arena (make sure you look into the city pass, a real bargin), right across from the house.

This house was definitely a highlight of our France trip. Of all our vacation rentals, both in the US and Europe, this is our very favorite. Just perfect!

Arles townhouse in historical area

  • 5 of 5

We had a week (four adults), in this gorgeous townhouse in the historical centre of Arles. The position was ideal, and to look out of your bedroom window and see the sun rising through the arches of the 2000 year old coleseum was truly awe inspiring.

Vivian, the owner, was always prompt with her replies to our emails, and everything about the house was as described. The house was well supplied and Vivian even left two bottles of local wine for us. So many lovely little touches. We enjoyed meeting her and to put a face to the person with whom we had been corresponding over a number of months.

The weather was very hot during our stay, (late August/early September), and to come home to our airconditioned lounge and bedrooms (very comfy beds), revived us for our next foray to a historical site or a market. The Saturday market is a must do. There was a huge variety of foodstuffs, and within easy walking distance of the house. Vivian told us of a supermarket close by, which was necessary for the beer supply on a hot day, when the little cafe two doors down was either busy or not in shade during the hottest part of the day.

There were a variety of restaurants nearby where we ate most nights.

While some may find the spiral staircases a challenge, we looked on the positive side and saw it as a get fit regime for our sightseeing. We were also fortunate that there was a Van Gogh exhibition of 31 of his paintings during our stay. Vivian had informed us of this before our arrival, so it was on the must do list.

We were taking a boat cruise from Arles to Lyon at the end of our stay, and the walk with our luggage to where the boat docked was easy, and downhill!

All in all, a most enjoyable experience, and we would certainly recommend it to friends. A highlight of our trip.

Quaint, beautifully decorated townhouse

  • 5 of 5

The property is right near the Roman amphitheater. The townhouse was beautifully decorated with antiques that I would have loved to buy but had no room at home for. It was really hot when we visited and the townhouse had air conditioning! There is parking near the Minoprix store circle and it is a short walk into the cobblestoned part of the town. Each bedroom had a bathroom. We walked to a local bakery (less than 5mins) for awesome baguettes and croissants. We loved the townhouse and would rent again if we happen to be in the area ever again.

Vivian and her husband were really nice and she was awesome about reaching out even after we left to inquire about how we were doing.

We were thrilled with our stay in Arles. This property is very unique and much care has been taken to renovate and furnish in style. The owner made us feel very welcome and explained everything to us via a welcome tour. Highly recommend staying here. We will be back!

Luxury at the foot of the Coliseum

  • 4 of 5

What a great way to see Provence! The well appointed luxury of this Arles town home was fantastic. The residence was spotless, the layout perfect. We were two couples and the layout of the bedrooms and ensuites was perfect. The beds are very comfortable and the ability to block out the light made sleeping a delight. Each room has its own air-conditioning that kept the rooms comfortable even during our summer heat wave.

The kitchen was well appointed and allowed us to take in the local market on Wednesdays and Saturdays and remain in on those evening to prepare our own gourmet meals. However, after a day of exploring left you wanting to dine out, this Arles location is situated right in the heart of it all. From the cafes at the foot of the coliseum (just outside our door) to bakeries and fine dinning just a block away.

We would definitely recommend this little bit of luxury built into an ancient setting. Either explore the local area on foot or use it as a base to drive the Provence Region and explore all it has to offer.

Beautiful townhouse only meters from the Roman Arena

  • 5 of 5

The owners have taken the pains to provide everything imaginable in this tastefully decorated home. Viviane also made wonderful suggestions for eating in genuine local spots noted for exceptional food, all of which we took advantage of. We were able to walk to all spots we wanted to see and to dine at. The home is several hundred years old, that the owners have beautifully renovated, retaining its era, with wonderful, carefully placed lighting. The beds were perfectly comfortable with top-of-the-line linens, and the rugs and antique furniture exceptional in a rental!

Arles is famous throughout France and perhaps the world for its Extraordinary Roman heritage sites, Vincent Van Gogh's former yellow house and many areas throughout the city that he painted. The city is equally known for its annual world photography, music & art festivals. This festival is to photography what the Cannes Film Festival is to cinema. It was launched in 1969 by photograph and image enthusiasts, Lucien Clergue, Jean-Maurice Rouquette, Michel Tournier and others. Every year this marks a high point for photographers and marks Arles out as an international capital of photography.

Also, this year famed designer Christian Lacroix, a native of Arles, has organized a world equestrian art festival taking place in July & August, don't miss out. Eco-tourism in the Camargues is right at your feet here too with horse back riding, pink flamingo & other exotic bird watching. This is a magical location.
