About the property

Serene Getaway in Nature. 3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom With Peaceful Desert Views

I invite you to get away from it all and experience the very unique, peaceful feeling that permeates this property. Enjoy exceptional uninterrupted views of the desert and mountains on a secluded 1 acre property with unlimited Arizona sunsets and starry desert nights. The house is completely surrounded by beautiful desert landscaping designed to attract humming birds and butterflies, giving you complete privacy from other properties. You can even enjoy fresh fruit from several fruit trees on the property including tangelos when ripe. Watch it all from an extensive covered veranda stretching on 2 sides of the house.

This quiet, spacious and comfortable retreat is located on a division of a large ranch near Kitt Peak observatory, boasting some of the cleanest air in America, just north of the Buenos Aires Wildlife Refuge and about half hour drive from downtown Tucson.

The house is a single story, 2,400 sq ft. open plan totally furnished including 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 1 office with wide views and perspectives. The master bedroom, which has a king size bed, has direct access to a private patio and there are uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape for miles from the large living area. The second bedroom has a queen size bed and the third bedroom has an electric adjustable twin bed. There is a walk-in pantry off the kitchen as well as a dedicated laundry room. The house is artistically appointed throughout with unique furnishings and hand-painted cabinets in the bathrooms. Above all it exudes an overwhelming peaceful feeling. Many guests have confirmed that they had the best sleep while staying here.

In addition there is a 2 car garage attached and a ping pong table as well as a king Mayan hammock on the porch.

The kitchen is stocked with dishes, glasses, utensils, pots and pans and usual necessities. The closets have all linens and blankets necessary. The laundry room has a vacuum cleaner and a floor steamer as well other cleaning tools and products. TV and DVD player as well as internet are available.

Despite its quiet surroundings the house is within 10 minutes drive of grocery stores, local restaurants and a well supplied country store. Nearby excursions include the Saguaro National Monument, the movie set of 'Old Tucson', the renowned Sonoran Desert Museum, the Kitt Peak observatory, the vast Buenos Aires wildlife refuge and the San Xavier mission.

An offsite caretaker provides his varied skills for the landscaping and any mechanical problems. He is also very knowledgeable about the native plants and their uses.

This home is very comfortable as it is furnished and equipped as a primary residence. I hope that you will enjoy it as much as I do.

About Robyn Lugo

I grew up in France and spent many years traveling around the world while working at an international job. I eventually settled in San Francisco and raised my family there. We began to split our time between California and Arizona after falling in love with the beautiful desert. We also found the exposure to native american traditions very intriguing and rewarding.

Robyn Lugo purchased this house in 1996

Why Robyn Lugo chose Diamond Bell Ranch

We spent many family vacations in this home. It has a wonderful energy and peaceful desert surroundings. It is a great place to be to escape from the busy city, but close enough to Tucson to enjoy all it offers.

What makes this house unique

This home's main living area has a wonderful open feeling with lots of natural light and great windows. It feels very private and secluded. My wife is an artist and found it a wonderful place to resource and fuel her creative energy.

An awesome stay!

  • 5 of 5

This property was all we hoped it would be and more! If you like Mountain View’s, wildlife in your backyard, clean and inviting homes, then this is the place for you! It is a bit of a drive to Tucson and other areas of interest, but we were always pleased to arrive back at the peacefulness that this property offers. We spent a month here and would not hesitate to come back!

La Palomita is a very Special Place

  • 5 of 5

In December of 2017, we spent 19 days in this pleasant, comfortably furnished property on the Diamond Bell Ranch estate west of Tucson, AZ. The kitchen is well-equipped. The caretaker, Ben, was helpful upon our arrival and responsive to any questions or concerns that we had during our stay. A spacious office with two desks was a definite bonus for us. The photos and description on the website are accurate.

The highlight of our residence was undoubtedly the proximity to life in the Sonoran Desert. Every morning, we sat in the garden, sipped our coffee and watched the plethora of birdlife - Northern Cardinals, Pyrrhuloxias, Curved- Bill Thrashers, Gambel's Quail, Mourning Doves, Gila Woodpeckers, Canyon Towhees - that came to feed at the huge block of birdseed that was provided by Ben. Hummingbirds would often zip in to suck the nectar from flowers thoughtfully planted by the owners. A curious Greater Roadrunner would run, halt and change direction as it inspected the yard. Javelina would sometimes chase each other through the bushes and even "play" in the unfenced yard. In the late afternoon, cottontail rabbits and jackrabbits often put in an appearance. Once, a coyote came dashing into the garden and then stopped in disbelief when he suddenly saw us. He quickly darted off. Occasionally, white-tailed deer would tentatively investigate who was currently staying at the house.

La Palomita, as this property is known, is a very special place.

The only disadvantage to this property is the flip side of its location out in the desert. Depending on the time of day and the amount of traffic, it can easily take 50 minutes or more to drive into downtown Tucson. It is not convenient for exploring areas of Tucson that are on the north, east, and southeast sides of the city. While it is relatively quick to visit the Kitt Peak Observatory, Saguaro National Park West and the Arizona - Senora Desert Museum, the travel times to some attractions - such as Biosphere 2, Mount Lemmon, Saguaro National Park East and Catalina State Park - usually involve a 3-hour round trip. In view of the fact that Tucson suffers from an appalling case of urban sprawl, however, this problem would likely arise no matter where you are located.

Far from everything, but close to nature.

  • 5 of 5

We managed to get a real taste of desert living during our two weeks there this past December/January. Peccaries, road runners, and all sorts of birds frequented the back yard. The house is spacious and quite nice inside. The weather was perfect, averaging around a high of 75 degrees (I wouldn't come in the summer unless you like it 100 degrees +). But keep in mind that the house is at best a 50 minute drive to central Tucson. Kitt Peak is just 20 minutes and the Museum of the Desert and Saguaro National Park are about 35 minutes.

Beautiful, Relaxing, turned me into a desert lover

  • 5 of 5

This was a family reunion. People came from around the United States. Everyone loved it. Bird watchers-happy. Butterfly and Hummingbird fans-loved it. Wildlife fans saw havalinas, coyotes, rabbits, deer, and even a roadrunner. The house was super comfortable and everything we needed was there if you look long enough. It is remote, but that is why we had all the beautiful nature. Many thanks for sharing your wonderful home.

Very Comfortable Desert Home

  • 5 of 5

The house had everything we needed to be comfortable for a month outside of Tucson. It gave us space that we could entertain friends and family that were passing through the area as well as a very comfortable place to go after being tourists and seeing the sites in and around the Tucson area. The wildlife was amazing, javelina, deer, coyote, quail, cardinals and many other birds that we have never seen before. The house is a ways out from Tucson but if you like being away from the hustle and bustle of the city it is the place for you. Ben the caretaker and Robyn the contact person were great to work with and very helpful. In a nutshell, it felt like home!

quiet and relaxing, beautiful views

A little far to drive if you want to go downtown everyday, but that is part of the appeal.

The house is very well equipped (we had thanksgiving dinner there and didn't miss anything)
