Hill Flats DC is an owner managed luxury 1880 brownstone on the first residential block across the street from the Library of Congress and Folgers Shakespeare Theater. Just a short walk away you will have immediate access to the US Capitol, US Supreme Court, and The National Mall.

This is the ultimate location if you are looking for immediate walk-able access to all of Washington DC's historic sites.

The building is also just few blocks away from Eastern Market and Barracks Row. For public transportation the property is a short walk to Union Station and Capitol South Metro stops in addition to numerous bus lines.

There are dozens of restaurants, cafes, and bar's within a few minute walk. There is also a neighborhood grocery store around the corner. Capitol bike share is located nearby. Walkscore is 94.

The private apartment is on the first floor of a 4 unit historic 1880 building. The flat has been freshly remodeled and has a fully appointed kitchen with stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, and marble bathroom tile. For your sleeping arrangements we have 1 queen size pillow top mattress bed, 1 queen size combination spring + air sofa bed, and 1 full size combination spring + air sofa bed. We also have an additional queen size air mattress which is available upon request.

The unit comes with everything you need to make your stay comfortable.

This is one of the most charming and well preserved buildings on one of the most desired blocks in Washington DC.

Since being built in 1880 numerous Senators, Congressmen, artists, and academics have all resided at what is now Hill Flats.

The building was previously used as a lecture hall and residence for scholars conducting research at the Library of Congress which is across the street.

Due to the buildings immediate proximity to national monuments, the National Park Service and Washington DC has designated Hill Flats a Historic building and has registered it under the Capitol Overlay and Fine Arts District. This designation ensures that all preservation is conducted under the direction of the Architect of the Capitol.

Awesome location. Would do it again.

Spent three wonderful days exploring the DC area. Right on the east end of the mall. If you use DC bikes, no car is needed.

DC Flats was well appointed, beds comfortable, etc. Only reasons for not giving 5 stars was slow water flow in bathroom sink ... kitchen, shower, etc. were fine. Also a few issues with wifi going out, but very professionally addressed. Would do it all again!

Ideal location to see D.C.

This is our first visit to D.C.long overdue. This was an ideal location. Two blocks from the UScapitol and one block from eateries. Every day was a very doable walk to all the sites and restaurants. The condo was well stocked including some thoughtful extras such as chilled bottled water in fridge and kcups. Necessaries were also provided such as bathroom soap, shampoo, dish soap,laundry detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, tissues.... again all very appreciated. Beds were comfortable. Ample linens provided. We had a minor issue of a loose fridge handle that was repaired during our stay. Walking the neighborhood at night was pleasant and we felt safe. I would rent again for our next DC venture.

Perfect location

Worked wonderful for our family of 4. The location was ideal for DC adventures. Easy access to the owner if there were any concerns. Everything we needed was there. The comfort of the beds were not ideal (super hard mattress in the middle room) but acceptable for short term.

Location! Good spot for close friends/family

Overall great place but naturally has its pros and cons you should be aware of:

Cons first:

With a long floorplan and no hallway, the bathroom is far (through 2 of the bedrooms) from the living area. Privacy is at a minimum.

The water pressure and hot water in the bathroom is also pretty lacking and there is a minor teeny tiny ant community.

The living room pull out bed is terrible but there are two air mattresses that are very easy to inflate/deflate although one has a minor leak. Just go straight for the blue one.

Walls and floors are very thin so anyone staying in the building can be heard as if they are in the apartment with you. Luckily we were probably up the latest and on the first floor but best advice is to leave shoes off and stick to normal sleeping hours.

Pros:

It is an amazing location! The National Mall is pretty much your front yard and its within walking distance to Eastern Market and lots of other foodie streets. Wherever you are in the city, the Capitol dome is your north star and the city is very walkable.

Everything in the apartment is clean and good quality. Softest white sheets and down pillows/comforters. Plenty of dishes and appliances to feel like home. Gas stove and sharp knives!? Never happens in a rental. That was great.

We were here in the winter but it was perfectly comfortable without us even finding a thermostat. There are air conditioning units all over the place so I'm sure it would even be perfect in the hot swampy dc summers.

Overall, it's a great place for young people to stay and really experience DC. Even families with older kids, as long as everyone is close enough to not require much privacy and can manage to keep the noise down and/or sleep heavily. Get your steps in and walk to Lincoln and back, make yourself a drink and pretend you are in House of Cards.

Absolutely great place and location for a trip to Washington

We had the best time staying at this location. Our flat was nicely furnished and we loved the feel of the old brownstone. Had everything we needed. Nicely appointed and very clean. Can't say enough about the location being so close to the capital building and then within walking distance to almost everything. Definitely would stay again.
