Madeira is a magical place from which my ancestors came. We took this trip to celebrate my mom's 70th birthday and even found her grandfather's house. We wanted to find a home away from home that would satisfy everyone's needs, provide the perfect resting place, and this home did just that. Our children (6 & 3) spent hours in the pool, as did my Mom. The views were amazing and there was more than enough space for everyone. The management team made arrangements for airport transportation and our driver was waiting when we arrived despite significant delays. While this was most appreciated after much travel (we are from Boston, MA USA), you should know that there are other car services/taxis that are much much cheaper. When we arrived at the home we were given an excellent tour. The kitchen was stocked with food and drink for which we were very thankful. When we had a question the team was always quick to respond and assist. We walked into town for dinner and general supplies (down hill) almost every night and to a large grocery store (up hill over highway) for everything else. We took many day trips throughout the island (we even hit the water park on Madeira Day!). The volcanic caves were a big hit, as were the ocean pools in Porto Muniz. You can hire a car by the day or half day. The city of Funchal is beautiful and quite cosmopolitan. There are fireworks every Saturday in June and we were able to see them from the back yard. We decided not to rent a car and were able to get around pretty easily, even with 5 people. We would definitely recommend this beautiful home and hope to return some day soon.
We fell in love with the pic of the view from the pool terrace and were not disappointed when we saw it for real. Watching the sun from sunrise to sunset over Funchal was like a long-running movie. We were parents/grandparents, son/daughter-in-law and two grandsons (6 and 3), daughter and son-in-law: everyone loved it (the two boys would have been happy with the pool, the lift and the play-station - never mind Madeira). The great amount of space meant that we were always comfortable. Ease of shopping, strolling to buy bread and pastries for breakfast, and out for dinner - and then getting on to the fast roads to anywhere when needed - made it an excellent stay all round. The wonderful Marcia greeted us and made us welcome, and Angelo so quickly addressed an evening problem with the water-supply so that we hardly noticed. We would thoroughly recommend.
