I have lived on the Olympic Pennsula for 30 years and live in Port Angeles
Marilyn Lamb purchased this cottage in 2000
I lived in this home for 5 years during that time I renovated it into a very nice space
I am bit of an artist and this cottage is a piece of art.It is decorated in a nautical theme . I have people stopping for photos and many people just stop to say how much they love it .The front porch has a beautiful view of the Olympic Mountians and the back deck is very private .The cottage is 1 block to Safeway 4 blocks to downtown shopping ,cafes or the ferry to Victoria Canada
The location is perfect for a base to explore the park. Downtown and Safeway are within a short walk. The neighborhood is safe, there is plenty of parking space. Everything inside makes you feel welcome. The owner is very creative in decorating his place, and I liked his taste. The property manager immediately responded to our concern (we could not find the coffee grinder). We would most certainly stay at this charming "beach house" again!
We enjoyed our stay in Port Angeles and this very cute cottage was adequate, but perhaps because we had just come from two back-to-back rentals that blew us away, our stay felt more like house-sitting for a stranger rather than being welcomed into a cozy retreat. There was no welcome binder or information, and checking in simply involved unlocking a keybox, not a personal greeting or tour, so we were on our own to figure out where things were, how things worked, and what was included (for instance, we couldn't figure out how to access the internet until my husband, quite by accident, noticed a small plaque mounted inside a doorway noting the wifi network information -- hardly intuitive!). A single book of Port Angeles coupons was on the dining room table, which would have been a nice touch except that there was only one coupon per business and it had already been picked over and had some coupons removed, including a couple we would have liked to use. The house was extremely stuffy, and even keeping all the windows open and the fan blowing when we were present wasn't quite enough to clear out the air during the two days we stayed; some air fresheners or ventilation between guests would probably help this a lot. We wanted to watch TV, but couldn't locate a DirectTV remote so we could not access the channel guide. The kitchen was minimally stocked (only salt, pepper, and olive oil) and the pans were old and peeling coating. There was no conditioner in the bathroom and the counter had an ornamental tissue box on it . . . without any tissue inside. All of these are fairly minor details, and they didn't keep us from having a nice time, but taken together they combined to form an impression that many items had been overlooked or simply not thought about, in contrast to many other VRBO rentals we've enjoyed where the hosts/managers made sure to anticipate any possible questions or needs guests might have and to make information clear and accessible. A thorough guest information book or binder, as well as some basic upgrades to things like the kitchen ware, would go a long way toward making guests feel taken care of and at home. Those tweaks would make this an A+ rental -- being walking distance to the Safeway and the downtown shops and restaurants was great, as was the easy proximity to Sequim, Dungeness, the ferry, and Olympic National Park. And the garden is very cute!
What a nice surprise to drive up to this perfectly charming place! We loved the nautical theme in the artwork and furnishings throughout the home. The location was perfect for nice walks into town to restaurants and to the Victoria ferry terminal for our day trip to Canada, and for our explorations into Olympic National Park. A very comfy bed with a nice patio outside the door, and good coffee for our mornings! Highly recommend
We truly enjoyed our stay in this great little cottage. It was a perfect location - close to grocery stores, a 5-7 min walk to the ferry or downtown, and just a short drive from the Olympic National Forest. The neighborhood was active during the day, but got very quiet at night. I would stay here again without hesitation.
This cottage was a perfect weekend getaway. Larger and nicer than the photos suggest. Nice deck with BBQ. comfortable bed. walking distance to town and short drive to hurricane ridge for hiking.
This area of town seemed a little unsafe. We had some issues during our visit. The cottage was not sufficiently cleaned, the coffee pot didn't work, and some problems with electrical appliances tripping the fuses. However the property manager was very quick to respond. The first day she came right over and addressed the un clean issue. The next morning when I went to use the coffee pot at 4:30 am prior to a marathon walk it didn't work! Virginia had a coffee pot waiting for us later that day. My biggest compliant was the lack of a closet in the bedroom. There is a closet however the owner locks it and uses it for storage. We had to live out of a suit case for 7 days. No hangers, no drawers. Maybe the owner will decide to open the closet and provide a space to hang clothes. The kitchen was adequate for preparing meals. Since it stays daylight so late it would be helpful to have blackout drapes in the bedroom. Close to downtown which gives you the option to walk and not have to try to find a parking space ( which are limited )
Port Angeles is on the straits of Juan De Fuca . To the south is the Olympic National Park .to the north is Victoria Canada .You can take a ferry there from Port Angeles..
