About Dennis & Susan Sibilia-Young

We arrived in Eugene 23 years ago, and raised our children here. We have spent the years creating beautiful gardens. We love sharing our space with others. Currently, we share the outdoor garden space with children in our child-care business. These children are aged 2-5. They spend short periods of time in the garden during mornings and afternoons (Monday-Friday).

Dennis & Susan Sibilia-Young purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Dennis & Susan Sibilia-Young chose Eugene

The construction of Rose Cottage was a labor of love. We brought many of the tiles back from our trips to Mexico. The hand-painted bathroom sink was brought as hand-carried luggage from Tonalá, Jalisco. These (and the location in our rose garden) provided the inspiration for creating a peaceful and renewing retreat.

What makes this cottage unique

Lots of light. Beautiful country garden setting in the city.

Very cute and charming for 1 or 2 people. Overall a good choice, but there is room for a few improve

  • 4 of 5

This cottage is cheery, bright, and charming for 1 or 2 people, especially if you book it for a weekend or plan to be out and about most of the day during the week. There is a childcare program operating on the property during the day, and there is some noise associated with that. It could be distracting if you wanted to sit outside. But evenings, weekends, indoors...really not an issue, and the little kids are cute. The kitchenette is adequate but could be better equipped with a few more utensils and accessories. It would be nice to have some basics like salt and pepper, etc., provided. All in all, the cottage is quite comfortable with one exception. I stayed there when the weather was very hot; and, although there is a large fan provided, I couldn't really cool the place down much. I think the problem is that many of the windows don't open, and some that do don't have screens on them. The difficulty seemed to be that, if I opened more windows to try to achieve some cross ventilation, I would probably be inviting bugs to come in. I made do with opening the 2 bathroom windows, which are equipped with screens, and turning on the fan. But that just didn't seem to do the trick. I think there needs to be a small, window air conditioner or maybe it would work to have screens on more windows to try to increase the air circulation when using the fan.

A Wonderful, Relaxing Stay

  • 5 of 5

We were so grateful to find this beautifully decorated cottage! It was perfectly quiet & clean and Dennis was very accommodating during our three night stay. When we are back in Eugene again I hope the Rose Cottage is available!

Thanks Dennis

Charming, cozy and welcoming

  • 5 of 5

Rose Cottage was a home away from home for me when I stayed in June. I was welcomed by Susan and we had a great conversation that filled our void for "girl time" . The location was close enough to U OF O for graduation but also quite enough to rest comfortably at night.

I would highly recommend staying at Rose Cottage and plan to when in Eugene next.

Great place - wifi slow

  • 5 of 5

I stayed three nights - Great little cottage! Nice shower, bathroom in general, comfortable bed, lots of pillows and warm! :) Things to improve are to remove your meat stored in the cottage freezer, have no sink on the floor upon arrival, put curtains above the kitchen sink, and add an ice cube tray. I'd pay more for high speed wireless--it was essentially unusable. I still give five stars because it was a hassle-free experience and nice place to stay.

creative, comfy, convenient

  • 5 of 5

I spent two nights at Rose Cottage. The Italian/Spanish tile decor is charming, the bed was comfy, and the location could not have been more convenient--just a few blocks from groceries, restaurants, the trail next to Amazon Creek, and 10 minutes to the UofO by car or bus. The owners (who turned out to be friends of friends of mine...small world!!) communicated promptly.

Darling Cottage!

  • 4 of 5

We were visiting relatives in the Eugene area so we didn't spend much time in the cottage. It's darling and the southwestern motif is something we really like. Everything was neat and clean and had alot of character. The only thing I would suggest is to have a hair dryer in the bathroom and a clock in the bedroom. I would recommend this lovely setting for a stay in the Eugene area.
