About Nick & Jill Lindsay

I am a semi retired farmer living in Northern Ireland, We have a large family, all of whom enjoy skiing and mountain life in general.

Nick & Jill Lindsay purchased this chalet in 2007

Why Nick & Jill Lindsay chose Alps of Vaud

We came to Leysin to stay with friends, fell in love with the place and ended up building this chalet. We love the peace and quietness of our location at the bottom of the village. In summer we can enjoy our quite large garden and the fantastic walks and hikes in the mountains. Leysin has some of the most dramatic scenery I have seen anywhere in the Alps. We do most of our skiing in Diablerets and Villars, which are less than 15 minutes away by car and on the same lift pass as Leysin. Huge ski area and very rarely any queues. Leysin skiing is great but not as extensive as the Diablerets/Villars area.

What makes this chalet unique

Modern, warm, comfortable chalet. Wonderful views, very quiet and peaceful. Brilliant for both summer and winter.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a fantastic time. The awful weather put us under pressure to make it the best possible holiday for the kids. We left in the mornings and hit the acqua park, Cailler chocolate factory, Lausanne reptile centre, St Bernard dog centre in Martigny, Chateau Chillon, toy shops in Lausanne. We packed it in and were able to do all of that in the rain.

When it cleared we took a few trips on to Vevey and Montreux on the old boats, went to Les Mosses market, Berneuse and Martigny Labyrinth Park. We also hung around Leysin.

The sheer beauty and comfort of the Chalet was a refuge in the rain and a paradise in the sun.

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and this was due in no small part to Chalet Le Renard.

Immaculate chalet in a perfect location - peaceful and relaxing with lots to do in summer

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week at Nick and Jill's chalet in Leysin in August. Nick was very helpful when booking the chalet, and the pre-arrival information was the best we have ever received, with clear instructions on how to find the property and lots of information about local activities and restaurants. The chalet is indeed superb. It is in a fantastic location, facing away from the village and looking over meadows (complete with cows and their melodic cow bells) to the mountains beyond - every day we woke to stunning views of snow capped peaks. Beautifully finished, with lots of lovely personal touches that made it feel like a home from home rather than a soulless holiday let. It is very comfortable with lots of seating inside and out, and a very well equipped kitchen. The TV with a DVD player worked perfectly and the WiFi was excellent. There was ample space in the bedrooms to store clothes, the bathrooms have a gorgeous deep bath and powerful showers, and there was plenty of linen and towels.

Leysin itself is a lovely little village with plenty of shops and restaurants. There is the cable car to the top of the local mountain, and a train from the valley floor, plus a number of indoor and outdoor sports facilities that we didn't use but looked very good. Despite being high up the valley, Leysin is very well placed with lots of fantastic places in less than an hours drive - including Montreux on Lake Geneva, Lac Lioson, Glacier 3000 (yes we did the Peak Walk!), the Grande Dixence Dam, Trient Ravine - in fact there was just so much to do in this area that our original plan to explore further afield was thwarted. We are going to have to return one day.

Amazing views and great accommodations!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time in Switzerland and we just fell in love with Leysin and how accessible the train station was from this chalet. The chalet was cozy and charming and had everything you needed. The local crepe cafe was delicious and the staff was always friendly and hospitable. We had a great experience with everyone in the town.

If you want a real vacation away from daily anxiety, Nick and Jill’s chalet, Le Renard, is the place to go. Drinking my morning coffee on the deck with the view of the mountains and breathing that fresh air was absolutely amazing. Talk about total relaxation. The deck was fully equipped with sun umbrella’s, extremely cozy cushioned lounge and upright chairs. A perfect place in the evening, after dinner, where the family would gather outside to gaze at the stars while sipping a glass of wine and chit chatting about whatever.

The chalet is fully equipped as if it were your own home. Comfortable beds, plenty of sofas and chairs and a big dining table facing the view of the mountains, The kitchen had from A to Z including lots of big pots and pans.

The chalet is very clean and tidy. Plenty of towels, pillows and linens. Wi-fi and TV function perfectly. We all had I pads, laptops and I phones. The internet service was excellent.

Nick and Jill are so jovial. Even though we have never met in person, I feel like I have known them forever. They are promptly available for any questions you may have before and during the rental.

If you are looking for a rental without surprises, this chalet is for you. The web photo’s are perfectly genuine.

Beautiful chalet for a memorable holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a memorable, week long, family holiday here. The chalet was very comfortable and welcoming and had everything we needed. Fully equipped kitchen and laundry, comfy and cosy bedrooms, gorgeous garden teeming with wild flowers and a breathtaking view across the Alps. Everything was as lovely as we expected from the listing.

We were travelling with a 1 year old and the owner arranged a cot and high chair with no fuss. The owners had great communication and were a pleasure to deal with.

Leysin was a little quiet at this time of year but we enjoyed some great day trips to Glacier 3000 and Lausanne and the trip up to the summit in the cable car from Leysin is well worth it for the stunning view.

We would definitely recommend this chalet as a great place for a relaxing family holiday.

Home, sweet home!

  • 5 of 5

This was one of the best weeks we've had in a chalet! We have spent a lovely week with friends here and we all felt that it was like coming home. There was enough space for all of us, it has a perfectly equipped kitchen and everything was superbely maintained. The chalet sits on a hill with a gorgeous view on the Swiss Alpes. I've slept so well here, because it's quiet and the air so clean. If you come by car there is place enough to park it. So I would definetely recommend this chalet, and I'll hopefully can come here again soon.

A wonderful base for Summer Hiking and exploring

  • 5 of 5

Having never been to the Alps at all, we were keen to find a base that had plenty to offer, and Chalet Reynard in Leysin was certainly that. The town itself had everything that we needed - supermarkets, restaurants, bars etc. The highlights of the trip through were the chalet itself and the wonderful countryside and scenery. We went walking / hiking almost every day, and with 4 kids ranging from 8 to 13 we were lucky in that there were trails with a wide range of difficulty, depending on need. For the most part though, when we weren't walking, we were at the chalet, which was wonderful. Well equipped, comfortable, with breathtaking views. All extremely clean and tidy, with plenty to amuse the children in particular with lots of board games. Our favourite aspect though was down in the basement, (used for ski kit during the winder season), where there was a great table football table and table tennis.

Even though the weather for parts of our stay was not ideal, the chalet was so well insulated as to need windows and doors open anyway, and the sun terrace was perfect for catching the afternoon sun. Uninterrupted views over the mountains opposite were compelling and changed every day, depending on the weather. And there was always the tinkle of the cow bells to remind us what country we were in.

It was only a 5 minute walk to get into the centre of town, and a couple of minutes more to get to the ski-lift up to Le Berneuse. We certainly came back somewhat fitter!

All in all we had a wonderful time, and we will certainly be hoping for a return visit to Chalet Renard.
