Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Marques - Normandy Cottage, sleeps 4.

Wake up to a magical garden; enjoy lovely walks; relax in the sun or by the fire

On the ground floor there is an open plan living room and kitchen, a double bedroom (with a double bed and a travel cot), 1 bathroom with bath and walk in shower and a washing machine, and a separate toilet. On the first floor there is another double room with two single beds (that can be joined together) and an office with a built in desk. The whole house is heated by a very effective wood burning stove. It is a detached house with a magical, secluded, mature, organic garden, a little pond and a summer house. There is a hammock to swing in and a garden bench and chairs. The birds and the butterflies are a joy and there are often fresh berries to pick. In winter the wood burning stove provides warmth and atmosphere and can be left in all night.

There are lovely forest and field walks and a riding stable within walking distance.

Suitability:
  • children welcome
  • non smoking only
  • pets considered
  • wheelchair inaccessible

About Jocelyn Jones

I am a homeopath, living and working in Brighton. We fell in love with the house the first time we sat in the garden on a warm summer day back in 2007.

Jocelyn Jones purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Jocelyn Jones chose Seine-Maritime

I love taking friends and family to stay in the cottage because everyone relaxes so quickly and time slows down and all the stresses are forgotten. It is easy to have a wonderful time together very simply, eating and drinking and talking, whether outside on a summer night or in by the fire in cooler weather.

What makes this cottage unique

The garden has little secret areas for adults and children alike to escape to and it is lovely to wake to birds and see the bees and butterflies on the flowers and hear the frogs. I love it that some families and couples have come back time and again because they have had such a happy time.

Perfect Autumn Break

  • 5 of 5

The cottage felt just like home the moment we stepped through the door. Very clean and the house keeper is only just around the corner if you need her. Aumale is a 10 minute drive away with shops, restaurants & a supermarket. La Comte is a quiet delightful hamlet with only a few houses & a farm yard. We visited the Somme memorial sites which is less than hour away through lovely countryside.

We don't have a bad word about our stay and are already making plans to stay again. A perfect cottage in a gorgeous part of France.

The peace and beauty that nourished me

  • 5 of 5

This lovely cottage, peaceful and magical, has been a place where my soul, mind and body found a much needed care. The garden, lush and rich, a perfect place to have the morning cup of tea or a nice coffee, made with fresh roasted coffee beans bought not far from the village, a perfect place to have a fresh french croissant or a colourful lunch. Can have dinner in the garden as well, but the majestic fireplace called us in to have our food in front of the fire, listening to the birds, just before dawn. The place is clean, tidy, spacious and welcoming, we found everything we needed there, like all the practical bits and bobs. There is no need to rush anywhere, so all nature around it comes to life as we take our time to absorb it's beauty. The bed is comfortable, my sleep was resting and revitalizing and waking up facing the big window overlooking the trees made my day! Many things to explore in the area and the walks are mesmerizing. We had such a wonderful time and we can't wait to return! Andreea :)

Charming cottage in fantastically peaceful locale

  • 5 of 5

Lovely picture-perfect secluded rustic cottage in picturesque region. Authentic traditional-style rural Normandy accommodation with bags of charm - it has not been extensively modernised to become a bland and soulless identikit contemporary house that one might find anywhere from Aberdeen to Zaragoza, which was much appreciated by us. Very much enjoyed our stay: the peace and tranquillity there are fantastic. Dogs loved it too!

A lovely rural paradise

  • 5 of 5

This was our third visit to this fantastic and beautiful place and we will certainly come back again next year. The house and garden are very well kept and the house is clean, charming and well maintained and has everything you need. There are so many great things about this property, I will only name a few: the fireplace is great (there is enough firewood) and also the big bathtub with views to the garden is lovely, the huge garden is a large enough to play hide and seek in or just to relax when the sun is shining. The only downside for us is that the nice lady from whom the keys can be picked up does not speak a word english and our french is horrible, which makes the communication a bit difficult. She is very friendly and patient though (and we should probably do more effort to learn the language). All in all, this place is truly a quiet, lovely rural paradise; we love it!

The Perfect Place to Get Away From It All!

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I had such a restful and rejuvenating experience during our stay in this charming Normandy cottage. It is such a warm and inviting place. Quiet, peaceful, away from it all, and so cosy with a fabulous wood burning fire. I found the place to be clean and well prepared for us, so we could just relax and enjoy our time there. Will definitely return again here.

Magnificent, peaceful and amazing retreat

  • 5 of 5

Words cannot express how wonderful this house is. Our children loved their room off the mezzanine and we enjoyed our gorgeous bedroom which lead straight into the garden. A spacious, beautiful cottage with a glorious kitchen and bathroom. Birds, bats, frogs and butterflies were just some of the creatures my boys were thrilled to spot. The property was rustic but clean, the lady down the road is helpful and kind. It is perfectly located for Aumale, Blangy Sur Bresle and not far from Le Tréport with it's funiculaire and fun beaches (do take beach shoes if you find pebble beaches hard though) Easy motorway access for local attractions and beautiful towns and cities. The stay was a dream and I am pining to go back!

The house is situated in La Comte, a quiet hamlet with small farms and a few houses, surrounded by beautiful countryside. In just 100 yards you can find a path and walk through the valley and into the forest. La Comte is 3 kms from Richemont which has a good patisserie, a butcher and a corner store and 7 kms from Aumale, a delightful market town. From Dieppe it is 45 minutes through beautiful Normandy countryside and magical forest. It takes under half an hour to drive to Forge-les-Eaux, three quarters of an hour to a beach, an hour and a half to Giverny (Monet's famous garden) and it is apparently easy to have a day trip to Paris. However I have to admit to so loving the peace and slow pace, the small town courtesy and friendliness and the abundant natural beauty, that I have not yet been tempted to go anywhere!
