Located in the historic block that was part of the Star Theater, the Coffee Cup, Bus Station, TAVERN and catty cornered to where the Cozy Corner operated. You will see on our walls much historic past in photos by photographers of old times, a décor reminiscent of the early twentieth century. Our Lofts provide you with an upscale space in the heart of downtown for discriminating travelers. We are very interested in old historical photos of Salyersville and welcome additions to our gallery. Each of the two units offer a private bath and can accommodate up to 4 (the sofa sleeper is used for 2 of the 4 and if elected carries a one time $20 bed change fee) . An additional bedroom can be utilized for either unit for larger groups. SHOULD THE DESIRED DATE BE TAKEN PLEASE CONTACT THE OWNER FOR ADDITIONAL AVAILABILITY.
Both Doug and Sue Mortimer are life long residents of Salyersville. Together they have operated Mortimer's Studio for 4 decades and in the late '80's became managing partners of the local Dairy Queen and Lee's Famous Recipe. After purchasing one of the few historical buildings remaining in Salyersville the idea of offering luxury vacation rental lofts just seemed natural. Their dream is that former Magoffin Countians will see this as a good place to 'come home to'.
Sue Blanton Mortimer purchased this condo in 2008
In the 1940's Doug's parents, Henry and Freida Lacy Mortimer, operated the Tavern on the 1st floor of the building. Throughout you will find old photographs of local places and people and there are some of his mother taken in the Tavern so naturally this building has special meaning to Doug.
We enjoyed our stay in Salyersville researching family roots. Staying in the Mortimer Loft was an excellent choice. Highly recommend. The owners were exceptionally gracious as well.
Beautiful and upscale, these Mortimer Lofts are at the same time very private and yet very centrally and conveniently located in downtown Salyersville. Do yourself a favor and book it if you are even thinking about it. You will be thrilled. I also felt the perfect balance between how accommodating and available the Mortimers were, and yet they totally left me alone and gave me complete privacy.
Don't miss this one!
The Mortimer loft is a quaint little place to stay. It's a little jewel of a place hidden in my hometown. We were close to our event and it worked great for us. It was beautifully decorated and the beds are very comfortable. We had a wonderful stay.
Great place to stay in a charming small town. The loft was decorated beautifully in an Art Deco style. Very cozy space. We loved it!!!
Here in Saylersville seeing college kids affiliated with the UDSAP program at the University of Dayton. This is right in the center of town, right above the street where the Fourth of July weekend fesitivities were held. Sue is great to work with. It has great old pictures of the Salyersville area, is easy to access and very comfortable. She was available for what ever we needed. The place is just beautiful, and a fun expereince to stay in. Our only problem at all was the wi-fi, but remember the area of Kentucky can have spotty wi-fi anyway. We did not need the wi-fi for business or anything like that. If we had, I am sure Sue would have helped had we needed to call. I would reccommend this to anyone staying in the area.
Near by is the Magoffin County Historical Society, where people travel from all over the world to trace their ancestry. Our Historical Society has amassed a genealogy collection which is one of the largest East of Salt Lake City. Each Labor Day weekend they host the annual Founders Day Festival where each year a different 'local' family is recognized with thousands traveling from far and wide to unite and often learn of their heritage. Other activities are the annual Christmas Celebration providing guests and locals with perhaps one of the most beautiful and brilliantly lit Christmas parades in the region, the 4th of July Patriotic Parade and Watermelon Social. Our local Civil War Re-enactment Committee stages battles as they were fought at the Gardner Farm on Ivy Point and the Battle of Puncheon Creek. In addition, the Kentucky State Park system has just completed the 1st phase of the Dawkins Rail Trail, providing when finished the 2nd longest walking, biking and horseback riding trail in the US.
