Step back in time and relax. James Croft is a 1930's bungalow that retains much of it's original charm - hardwood floors, clawfoot bathtub, large country kitchen, front and back porches to capture the sun. Two bedrooms include a queen sized bed and double futon. The open floor plan connects the bright kitchen, newly decorated living room with comfortable seating (and a flat screen TV) - and dining area. Enter through the back porch that is large enough to drop all your outdoor gear. The house is comfortably decorated to reflect it's charm and character and supplied with all the necessities of home.
We are Mike & Rita. We live at the gateway to the San Juan Islands in the seaside community of Anacortes north of Seattle - but we both grew up in the Rocky Mountains. We are busy professionals with an extended family nearby - we love travel, books, art, good food and wine and experiencing the world around us.
Rita James purchased this house in 1998
Our fist visit to Philipsburg was like stepping back in time. We fell in love with the mountain setting, the amazing friendliness of the folks in town and all of the activities available around this community. It didn't take us long to decide that this is a place where we could see ourselves spending more time as we moved toward and into retirement. We found this little comfortable house filled with original charm, that was the perfect size for our needs. Just recently we decided since we have this great place that we are not yet able to utilize all that often, maybe we should share it with others who are looking for a similar experience. We decided to call our house James Croft to reflect our Scottish love and heritage.
Coming from the soggy northwest, we always rave about the light in our house. The glassed-in front porch and paned windows get the first rays of morning sun - add in a good cup of coffee and it's a perfect start to a day. The enclosed back porch similarly captures the evening light & sunset. We love the authentic Craftsman touches throughout the house - the glass french doors into the main bedroom - the built in closets and bookshevles - the wood trim throughout the house. While it's not fancy, we've done our best to make James Croft cozy and comfortable!
We had a nice weekend at this cute, clean cottage with our family of 4. It is accurately described as "charming". The house was big enough for us to be comfortable, large kitchen and all the amenities we needed. We enjoy skiing at Discovery Basin and this was a convenient location for us. We had some nice meals out in Philipsburg and were very cozy and comfortable in this home with subzero temperatures outside! The owners were very helpful.
Cute old house with farmhouse charm. Comfortable for the most part. If you like staying in old homes with old features, you will like this house. We had toilet issues during our 2-night stay (trouble flushing it). I also didn't realize it didn't have wifi until right before arrival (my fault for not checking before we booked). Just assumed since we're avid AirBNB'ers and we have always had wifi in our vacation homes. Loved the cable TV. For the money, would have expected wifi. Great service from Rita. She sent over directions and her suggestions for things to do before arrival. Overall it was just OK.
P-Burg is a great town. Love the history and the easy vibe. Our two day stay was full of town walks, beer breaks at the local hang out, checking the Griz game and general relaxing at the house. We're enjoyed and appreciated the old house with its character and charm. The house was clean and comfortable, easy to cook in and great for playing cards or watching the game. It would be nice if the second bedroom had a regular mattress instead of a futon. Wasn't uncomfortable, just seems like for the $$ there should be two real beds. We'd recommend it to friends and certainly consider doing it again ourselves! Thanks!
We had a great stay in PBurg! The house was clean and comfortable, with plenty of parking for our trailer and ATV. The neighborhood was quiet and the views were beautiful. Would definitely stay again.
We enjoyed our stay at the bungalow. It's is in a great location on top of the hill north of the downtown, just a few minutes' walk from the main street. It's not a fancy place, but it's clean and comfortable and a good value. Everything you would need has to be here, including kitchen items, a good sized dining table, plenty of chairs, books, satellite TV, and even radio with an iPhone jack in case you forgot your charger (like me). The wood floors squeak in places and one bed is, as the write-up states, smaller than the other, but it has an old-time charm that fits perfectly in P-burg. While there, don't miss out on the Sweet Palace (even if you don't like candy--you have to stop in, although not if it's Saturday since they're closed then), the sapphire mines (driving to the "real" one up the Skalkaho is fun and pretty), the brewery (both locations), skiing at Discovery or boating on Georgetown (you can rent small boat at the marina), the opera house, and the beautiful main street. No shortage of things to do, and this place makes a perfect base camp!
My wife and I stayed in this charming Bungalow in Philipsburg, Montana for four nights. Pictures on listing are representative. Very comfortable with two bedrooms, full kitchen and living room. Good communication with agent. Bungalow was very clean. Philipsburg a wondearful little town.and people there are very friendly. Be sure to do the mining at least once while there. It was fun and kids especially have a good time. Would recommend.
Philipsburg is an idyllic town tucked up against the Flint Mountain Range abounding in outdoor activities and friendly western hospitality. Lining a historic downtown Main Street you’ll find a brew pub, incredible Sweet Shop candy store (not to be missed), Saphire Gallery with locally mined stones, restaurants, unique gift shops, a fly fishing store, antiques and one of the best thrift stores around. Within 15 minutes is the Discovery Ski Resort with a range of skiing options, Georgetown Lake Recreation Area and Granite (ghost mining town). Just outside of town you can enjoy world class fly fishing, hike, mountain bike or picnic within sight of the continental. A visit will not be complete without spotting moose, elk, mountain goats or deer. There's even a Jack Nicolas designed golf course (with black sand) only a half hour away in Anaconda.
