About the surrounding area;
Sakonnet Farm’s newest addition is ideally situated at the base of Quicksand Pond between South Shore Beach in Little Compton and the Acoaxet Club in Westport. South Shore Beach and Goosewing Beach are located just three miles from Potters Corner. CNN travel rated Goosewing Beach one of the world's best eco-friendly beaches due to the effort by the Nature Conservancy to protect the endangered piping plovers. During the summer you can often see areas of the beach roped off because the piping plovers have made their nests. The Benjamin Family Environmental Center is located at Goosewing Beach and is ideally situated to offer visitors a stunning view of the barrier beach and dune, coastal salt pond and historic meadowland. Through expanded programs, walks and rotating educational exhibits, visitors will learn about important natural features and local flora and fauna (nature.org).

Little Compton is a very small, rural and bucolic town with approximately 3500 full time residents. Situated on the southeast of the Sakonnet River; the area is abundant with farmlands, stone walls, and remains untouched by urban sprawl; it’s as if time stayed still in many ways. The Town Commons is located within two miles of Potters Corner and enjoy the local watering hole, Crowther’s, which is within walking distance. For a beautiful collection of photos of Little Compton, please visit our friend Sharon's blog- A New England Life. The area is also very popular for bike riding; the roads are less traveled and very scenic and there are also many choices for hikers.

The Dundery Brook trail runs through a forested wetland and then into an open meadow and pond habitat. Seasonal changes in flora and fauna can be observed all year long. Highlights include the spring return of migratory birds and emergence of amphibians of all kinds. Flowering wetland plants that include jack-in-the-pulpit and some very rare plants can be observed along the trail. Particularly suitable for younger children and those for whom getting around can be a challenge, this trail provides visitors with an opportunity to explore a myriad of wetland habitats which support a changing variety of creatures throughout the year.

In neighboring Tiverton, RI there are two miles of trails in Emily Ruecker Wildlife Refuge; a 50-acre parcel of woods and salt marsh with trails and fine views of the Sakonnet River. The refuge has blinds for observing and photographing nature. Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, and Glossy Ibis are among the birds that frequent the marsh. Jack's Island, a peninsula that extends into the Sakonnet River, is home to breeding Ospreys.

Very close to the Refuge are three interconnected trails at the 230 acre Pardon Gray Preserve. All are marked with white blazes. The Cemetery Trail passes an active vernal pool near the start. It connects with the Ridge Trial at a point close to the Yellow Trail in Weetamoo Woods. The Ridge Trail ends at a small parking area on Lafayette Road. From the parking lot go about 200 yards west on Lafayette Road to get to the start of the Lafayette Connector trail, which leads back to the parking area along Main Road. Access to the lightly used South Trail is from the Town Farm Recreation Area parking lot at the south end of Pardon Gray Preserve. The cemetery in the center of the 67 acre farmland is that of the family of Pardon Gray. Pardon Gray provided bread and other staples to the soldiers stationed at Fort Barton during the Revolutionary War (all trail info was obtained from exploreri.org).

Westport Massachusetts is located in the next town over where you can find a quaint shopping area and Horseneck Beach, a large, public state beach reservation where the Westport River joins Buzzards Bay. Also in neighboring Westport is Osprey Kayak where you can take lessons for kayaking or stand up paddling. They also have a huge variety of tours. Their River Tour series offers time in the river or the sea. Their Eco Tour series focuses on exploration of the area.

Sakonnet Farm & Stay’s Cleaning Protocol

During the COVID19 Pandemic, we have modified our cleaning guidelines to include even more vigorous sanitization and disinfection practices. Kristin is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She has assisted in keeping her surgical office open during this pandemic, keeping her staff and patients safe and healthy.

We have just a couple of us that perform all our cleaning. We have discussed not cleaning if we are not feeling well ourselves, proper use of PPE, proper use of all chemicals, and disposing of all trash, cleaning supplies and biohazards appropriately.

Cleaning is defined by the CDC as “the removal of germs, dirt, and impurities from surfaces. It does not kill germs, but by removing them, it lowers their numbers and the risk of spreading infection.” Disinfection is defined by the CDC as “a process that eliminates many or all pathogenic microorganisms.” Sterilization is defined by the CDC as “a process that destroys or eliminates all forms of microbial life” - so this would be appropriate in health care facilities, not in homes.

We have changed our cleaning products to use products listed on the EPA’s list that are effective to this COVID virus. We are using these chemicals to clean and disinfect as per the directions on the individual chemicals.

We are paying close attention to high touch surfaces including door knobs, light switches, stair railings, remote controls, arms of chairs, appliance handles, toilets, and faucets. These surfaces will all be wiped with a disinfection solution.

We are asking our guests to turn on the HVAC air circulation upon leaving our home, and opening the windows when appropriate. Our cleaners will also do this if not done before they arrive.

All bedding will be changed between guests, including the quilt/comforter and mattress pad. They will be laundered at the highest recommended temperature before being returned to the home.

Virus particles do not live long on soft surfaces such as upholstery. Viruses in general do not live long on any surfaces that are porous, with holes or microscopic grooves.

We have put away most of our decorative pillows and extra throw blankets for our guest’s safety. If our guests use any of the spare blankets we have in the closet, we are requesting they leave them out on the bed so we know they need to be laundered.

We take great pride in offering a clean and safe home for our guests. Even more so now in these uncertain times, we want our guests to feel comfortable when staying at a Sakonnet Farm & Stays property.

Excellent Choice
Our experience was top notch! There was plenty of room for our family of 8. The home was well kept and comfortable as well as being nicely furnished. The master bedroom was palatial! The location was perfect in a very quiet neighborhood. Rural, but close to everything we wanted to see and do. We would HIGHLY recommend this VRBO and will definitely consider returning in the future.

Wonderful Tucked Away Getaway
The house was well appointed and spacious with some great amenities you don’t find in every rental such as the sauna and spa tubs. Great outdoor patio, large kitchen. Plenty of room to gather and plenty of room stretch out. A perfect escape.

About the host

Hosted by Kristin Silveira

Host profile image
Adam & Kristin, with our four kids, are pleased to be offering a variety of homes for vacation rental in the Tiverton and Little Compton area. We moved to Little Compton in 2002 because we wanted to raise our family in this quiet rural town. It was one of the best decisions of our lives!
In 2009 we bought the farm and about a year later bought the Schoolhouse. It was after the purchase and a complete remodel we learned about vacation rental homes and we thought we'd give it a shot. We immediately fell in love with the idea and not a year later, bought another fixer upper in our town of Little Compton. We were blessed with many wonderful guests and because of that, we were able to purchase the Samuel Church Estate in 2016, and the John Dyer Loft in 2019. We have now started to manage properties and have two beautiful large homes in Little Compton also available.

Why they chose this property

Little Compton and the surrounding area is beautiful with farms, historic structures, rambling landscape, beaches, woods etc....

What makes this property unique

You can come to Little Compton to have the peace & quiet of the country and still be an hours drive from the city in Providence or Newport.
