Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Carrabelle - Pelican's Nest

2 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom, 4 Sleeps

Pelican's Nest is the sister property to Sandpiper Quay #130577. We purchased this home in February 2013 and completely remodeled the home. It has all of the charm of an original beach cottage as well as all of the modern conveniences that anyone could want!

Everything in this house is new as of February 2013, down to the kitchen cabinets. It has a fresh, yet sleek cottage feel.

With 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, this home sleeps 4 comfortably. The home has 2 master suites, each with its own ensuite bathroom. This is a great home for 2 couples, or a small family. If you need additional room, the house next door, Sandpiper Quay can also be rented, to accommodate a larger group.

There is a television in the living room and one in each of the bedrooms, for a total of 3 televisions. The house has cable, DVD/VHS player, stereo with iPod dock, and wireless internet; so bring your laptop and work by the water.

Pelican's Nest is on the water, just a short stroll and over a small dune. It has a screened in porch where you can sit and enjoy the coastal breezes. What's better than having the beach as your backyard? We have provided beach towels and beach chairs for your use and there is a charcoal grill and picnic table in the backyard.

Some of the best seafood can be found in Carrabelle. You can go to downtown Carrabelle and purchase shrimp each morning, fresh off of the shrimp boats. The freshest oysters you've ever had are harvested every morning, so be sure to pick some up, as well as the fresh grouper and other fish. Or, if you prefer, you can fish from the beach just out your back door.

This is a great little beach bungalow in a tranquil setting. If you're ready to relax and get away from it all, then give us a call! You only need to provide us with a credit card to book the home, so what are you waiting for?

Pelican's Nest is WONDERFUL!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in this property a couple years ago and cannot wait to return! spotless clean! All the comforts of home but on the water, beach and a precious little town! I would SO recommend anyone wanting a peaceful vacation on the beach to consider this area! 20 minutes from St. George; 30 minutes from Apalachicola, close to Port St Joe and other areas of interest.

Great Beach Getaway

  • 5 of 5

What a great place to get away and be on the beach. We took a family vacation for Memorial Day taking my three nieces ages 3, 18 & 19. There was something for everyone. We all enjoyed the house. There was enough room for all 5 of us. Everything was clean and new. The house is decorated so cute. The back porch is wonderful. It's nice to sit out there and watch the sunrise. There are movies to watch if you can't find anything on TV to watch.

It's so nice to walk right over the dunes to the crowd free beach. The girls loved the beach. We saw dolphins and stingrays.

There are several good places to eat right in Carrabelle. In addition we drove over to St George and Apalachicola for dinner a couple of nights for dinner also. We had a wonderful time. The house is less than a mile from the Crooked River Lighthouse. We had a good visit there and was able to climb to the top of the lighthouse for a wonderful view.

We will come back again!

What a wonderful place!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at Pelicans nest and couldn't believe our luck, how wonderful it was - so clean, we could see the sea despite the garden, dunes and fauna! We loved the fact there was not a lot in Carrabelle and found plenty to do, in fact we have to return to do all the things we wanted to do but ran out of time to do them in. The fact you can walk to the beach is a first for us when visiting Florida and we could leave our stuff there while we went back to the house for lunch. The house is very comfortable and well equipped, we had a problem with air conditioning while we're there and the people at Sandy Beaches rentals had a maintenance man with us in 20 minutes he in turn called the A/C guy who couldn't fix it and all this within an hour, we were then moved next door to Sandpiper we couldn' believe the efficiency of all involved. Sandpiper is more traditional and has a real charm, with the extra sun lounge bit at the end it feels more spacious and brighter, however the bathroom is more basic than Pelicans. We would definitely recommend people stay as we saw dolphin daily, stingray, starfish and so many seabirds on the beach it was quite magical.

Nice, cozy, and quaint

  • 4 of 5

We just finished our stay at Pelicans Nest and we had a lovely time in Carrabelle. The property has been totally updated with all new furnishings, new utilities, was very clean and well maintained. The air conditioning worked fantastic and ceiling fans throughout the house kept the cool air circulating. The beds were fairly nice and didn't have any noticeable sagging. Water pressure was just so-so, drainage in the tub was a bit slow, and hot water was just fine. There's only basic cable TV so don't expect to be entertained by TV during rainstorms and the wi-fi speeds barely supported streaming video (HD streaming had repeated lagging issues) and there was no 4G cell service. The screened back porch was very nice and kept flying insects away. View of the beach & gulf was almost non-existent due to the dunes and fauna growth. The beach was lovely soft white sand and very uncrowded (despite a close public access point and other neighboring rental properties). The water had less wave action due to barrier islands and had quite a bit of cannonball jellyfish (seasonal?), there were barely noticeable oil specks on top of the water, and snorkeling was not possible due to constant murk. There's really not much to the town of Carrabelle, so be prepared to travel 45-60 minutes to get to anything beyond necessities, selections of places to eat, or better sights to see. Overall we were very satisfied with the property itself and would come back for a romantic getaway or if we didn't want to be bothered by a bunch of people like other more popular panhandle tourist areas.

Owner's Response: Thanks for staying at Pelicans Nest. You are right, everything in the home is new, as of just 2 years ago. We added a second bathroom, installed a new kitchen and we update linens and other necessities once or twice a year. It is the perfect get away from the hectic hustle and bustle of life, just as we intended when we purchased the home. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and would want to come back. Carrabelle has it's own charm on the forgotten coast. It is a place to relax, enjoy the beach, fresh seafood, and unwind. Thanks ~ Lisa

Chang is not always bad.

We were original staying here and looking forward to it. A few weeks before our stay we were asked to change to the house next door. Having stayed in it the year before and being very satisfied I agreed. I'm certain we would have been very comfortable in Pelican's Nest,But do not regret the change

Nice, Quiet Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Pelican's Nest Beachfront cottage is just as pictured and a great getaway if you are looking for a laid back, quiet vacation. First of all, the owner's response was quick, which was appreciated. I received a response to my inquiry within 12 hours, after inquiring about numerous other condos and cottages on VRBO and never getting any response at all, which was quite frustrating. I was looking for something kind of last minute and stumbled upon Pelican's Nest after looking at a different area of the gulf coast, and I'm so glad I found it. The cottage itself is very nice - bed was comfortable, kitchen was nice and well stocked with essential small appliances and cookware, all appliances including washer and dryer worked well. Wi-fi worked without any problems. The screened in porch was a nice place to relax. (One small suggestion - it would be great to have a TV channel guide handy). The beach is a short walk and was quiet and secluded, with only a few other people on the beach at any given time. The ocean itself was rather dark, like the color of weak coffee, but it's my understanding that was due to some recent storms, and it did begin to clear up by the end of the week. As another reviewer mentioned, there was also some standing water that you had to wade through to get to the ocean, but we didn't find it too bothersome - and it couldn't really be helped due to recent rains. The town of Carrabelle is definitely quite small. It's a great area for surf fishing or bringing a boat (which we probably will if we come back!). The only restaurants are local ones, but we enjoyed them, including one within close walking distance. There is a small grocery store nearby to purchase groceries. We enjoyed riding along the coast to some nearby towns, as driving 20-30 miles wasn't an issue for us. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay, and would recommend Pelican's Nest. We would definitely consider staying at this cottage again.

Owner's Response: Donna, We are glad you enjoyed the "Forgotten Coast". Carrabelle is a quiet little town, but the fishing, boating, shelling, eco-tourism and sunbathing are all great there. One of our favorite things is how private the beach can be. We are glad you found the home comfortable. Pelican's Nest is new to the rental market, as we purchased it this year and gutted the inside. Everything is new, as of May 2013. We know we spent a little more on the mattresses, but we believe you should be able to have a great nights sleep while on vacation! Between the comfy beds and bedding and the sound of the water...you should be able to sleep like a baby! Again, we are thrilled you enjoyed the home and hope you come back again!
