Quiet Cottage on 5 Acres Minutes From Mendocino and Ocean

Bedrooms 1
Space 700 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Adjacent to State Forest, Minutes to Mendocino and Ocean

This 700 square foot cottage is located on 5 secluded acres and was designed and built entirely by the owners. The cottage includes many special touches such as open beamed ceilings milled with local redwood. The cottage has tons of natural light. A wood pellet stove provides cozy heat and ambiance with the push of a button. There are also electric heaters in the bedroom and bathroom for additional warmth.

The cabin includes a private outdoor shower equipped with hot water, a private deck, an indoor claw foot bathtub and a compact yet full kitchen. The bedroom is outfitted with a brand new Leesa bed. There is also a twin bed which is perfect for kids. An additional futon with bedding is available to sleep a fourth person.

We are very kid friendly. Let us know and we will get out our trikes and cars for your child. We also have a very friendly dog but she stays on our side of the property most of the time.

We are also happy to provide recommendations for dining, beaches, trails or whatever else you are interested in seeing.

Jackson State Forest is our next door neighbor. There is a trail that leads from the property into the forest and we will leave you a map. Located ten minutes north of Mendocino and ten minutes south of Fort Bragg and five minutes from what we think is the best beach in the area.

We welcome guests with one dog up to forty pounds for an additional flat fee.

Cozy and comfortable, exactly as written

  • 5 of 5

We loved our long weekend at the cottage. The owners greeted us, left us contact information, then gave us the privacy we wanted during our vacation. The cabin is small but comfortable, everything we needed for our small family. The hosts were kind and left us extra bedding for our kids, plenty of blankets and pellets for the wood stove, and enough coffee for the first long morning.

We have no complaints except we wish we could have stayed longer!

Nice retreat!

  • 5 of 5

This is a quiet and peaceful spot in the middle of the woods, right in between Mendocino and Fort Bragg. The family is very friendly and nice, yet respective of your privacy. The cabin is charming, very clean and nice. We loved our stay and would love to come back!

Sunny, private and dog-friendly

  • 5 of 5

First the overall review: this place is lovely. Set in a clearing, the cottage gets lots of light throughout the day, making it enjoyable in the morning as well as for a lunch break on the deck. The pellet stove is easy to use and works well to heat the cottage. I highly encourage you to use the outdoor shower, even if it is cold out. One morning there was frost on the ground, but I still threw on some flip flops and made my way to the shower. It gets quite hot, and you are surrounded by trees, making for a magical experience. The tub is also great for a soak. Jake and Lindy are friendly, but will give you space, while their dog Molly will come over and check in.

Dog people: this is the place. You can walk out the drive to a trail that connects to Jackson forest, one of the few places you can walk in the redwoods with your dog. You are between Big River beach and MacKerricher Beach, close to Caspar beach and Point Cabrillo (all dog-friendly). Highly recommend this cottage

second visit did not disappoint!

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect cottage to enjoy the wide variety of outdoor activities available in the Ft Bragg area. The cottage is cozy, spotless and has all the amenities we appreciate including lots of natural light. We also loved being able to hike right from the front door.

This is a charming property off the beaten path.

  • 5 of 5

This property is in the woods east of Caspar, but only minutes away from multiple public beach accesses on the Mendocino coast and to the towns of Fort Bragg and Mendocino. Although the owner's house is nearby the rental is situated to afford privacy. Jake and Lindy were very responsive to all of our needs from the time of booking to our departure, yet respected our privacy. On arrival we found a warm pellet stove, lights on, breakfast goods and clear information about the cottage.( Be sure to print the directions, though, ahead of time as google maps will not be available.) Highlights were the many windows, deck that was sunny mid-day, a deep tub for soaking, or a refreshing outdoors shower both with plenty of hot water, comfortable bed and nice walking/hiking/biking right from the property. It was perfect for us, but there are stairs and the kitchen which again was fine for us is small and had we been cooking for several people, may have been a challenge. However, there are many nearby restaurants and grocery stores. Don't miss the Russian Gulch walk, Jughandle beach, Point Cabrillo Light house, the headlands in both Mendocino and Fort Bragg and although it's about an hour's curvy drive, the Montgomery Woods are worth the effort. It was a wonderful stay. Thanks Jake and Lindy
