Description

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday recreational vehicle in Star Lake - Isle Rest Jr.

Plenty of privacy & amenities for a couple or small family on Star Lake

Star Lake is called "The Gem of the Adirondacks." It is a spring fed lake on the north western side of Adirondack Park and borders land designated as Forever Wild. The lake is large enough for motor boats, and small enough for canoes, kayaks, and paddle boats. It is full of nooks and crannies and small islands, which make it really nice to take a peaceful "stroll" around the lake in a man powered boat.

Isle Rest Jr. is a very clean, comfortable, and tastefully decorated deluxe 34' Camper located in a private, lakefront location. It has an attached deck, picnic table, and private dock. It is surrounded by white pine and balsam trees and has a beautiful view of the western half of Star lake, which is quieter and less populated than the eastern half.

Your ALL INCLUSIVE rental includes:

- Cozy & Clean CAMPER with bedroom, full bathroom, kitchen, dining, and living area

- Private DECK

- Private DOCK on spring fed Star Lake

- PADDLE BOAT, CANOE and KAYAK

- Private use of TREASURE ISLAND with beach, lean-to, and firepit

_Private use of MOTORIZED BARGE

**NOTES

The current reviews are for the main house on the property, not for the Camper.

The September Special Rate does not include use of Barge.

About Heidi Shelton

Isle Rest has been in the Shelton family for almost 100 years.

Heidi Shelton purchased this recreational vehicle in 1895

Why Heidi Shelton chose Adirondacks

It is rare to find a lakefront property in the Adirondacks with this much privacy and you will not find another property with the amenities we provide. We give you the best of all worlds = all the comforts of home and all the fun of outdoor and lake living!

What makes this recreational vehicle unique

The motorized docks, or Party Barges, are an experience unique to Star Lake. On any given day, you will see one touring the lake, propelled by an outboard motor, covered with an awning, with tables, chairs, and grill. Go out for a 2 hour excursion - eat, drink, fish, and swim!

Star Lake is spring fed - no inlet, only an outlet. This keeps the water clean and clear!

One of the best places to have a quite vacation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed her from 16th to 23rd July 2016. Getting to the site was like a suspense movie. You would never believe a RV existed there. The RV was very nicely located close to the water yet no threat or danger. The place was very clean and well maintained and spacious for a couple and 2 kids. The temperature at night drops to about 50 Degrees F and in the morning it’s about 60 degrees F. We went to several lakes and I think Star Lake was very nice and small enough that you could paddle or go around without being too far away from land. The Gas station “Nice-N-Easy” is not too far and carries most grocery and produce you will need to have a comfortable stay. We also came across a small grocery store that was well stocked. We carried everything we thought we needed to stay for a month. If you are looking for a fancy restaurant and super markets or even a mall, you are at the wrong end of the woods. Stay home and do a staycation.

Mr. Feet’s was been very friendly and was always there if we had any questions. We used the paddle boat and the kayak and we had a great time. We did not rent the island as we did not feel the need. We did rent the floating dock for 2 days. The first day it was too windy and chilly so we went for 2 hours and got back. The second day we did encounter some engine issues. The engine stopped every 15 minutes and we had to wait for 5 minutes and restart it back. We got it back to the dock and returned back to the RV.

Overall a very pleasant trip and would definitely recommend to others and return next year.

Very special place

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed the "rustic" nature of the place, however it really is not very rustic, but has a quality of being at a well cared for, well loved, family camp. The "history" of the house is evident in the pictures, plaques, furnishings, etc. The LeanTo is awesome. We played cards in there by firelight! The Barge is like a floating beach. The boat house and canoes, the point, the privacy of the cove and the islands.....all make for a wonderful vacation. Thank you very much!

Will come back again!

This place is magical. ITs historic, rustic and right on the water. We visited with our 2 boys ages 4 and 8 as well as our dog. The property includes 2 canoes, one paddle boat, lean-to, and a fire pit. But the best part was the moving barge or the floating dock. I had never seen anything like it before. All 4 of us including the dog could pile on the barge and explore the lake. It made our holiday. We also discovered a sand reed in the middle of the lake which was a big hit with the boys.

Star lake although very developed has no real grocery store that provides fresh fruit and vegetable. The cabin does not have washer and dryer and Star lake does not have laundry matt. No real restaurants exist in Star lake (not counting the deli counter at the gas station). Also there are no hiking trails, the closes hiking is in Cranberry lake as is everything else. The cabin has no heat, that might not be a problem in the summer but when we visited in July it got down to 40's at night and the cabin's blankets were rather thin, we all slept with many layer and still were VERY cold at night. So take blankets or sleeping bags to keep warm in case of cold front. Although there are 4 bedrooms in the cabin , 3 bedrooms have a full bed and one has a single bed. I have no idea how 2 adults can share a full bed, so we all ended up in separate room. It worked fine for us but if you are a party larger than 4 you might want to bring sleeping bags or use the sofa (its a regular sofa and not a sofa bed).

IF you are looking for a lovely historic cabin on the lake look no further, you found it.

We went fishing, swimming, exploring lake, found sand reef, used fire pit for marshmallow's and went hiking at Cranberry lake. It was amazing and super fun. I wish I had brought more fresh fruit and veggies with me as well as nice warm blankets. Otherwise it was perfect.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. We appreciate your choosing Isle Rest and are glad you enjoyed your stay overall. The home does have a small washer and dryer in the storage room at the top of the stairs. Our apologies if that was not shown to you. Also, there are extra blankets in the bin in the upstairs hallway. There is a heater for the bathroom and the living room, but not for the bedrooms. But they are portable and can be taken upstairs. The local grocery store is small, and does contain limited fresh fruits and vegetables, but nothing like people are accustomed to in the city! There are some trails closer thank Cranberry, but it does require a knowledge of the area. Feets is always willing to help show our guests the trails if asked. Please don't hesitate to call Feets any time during your visit with any kind of question or assistance!

It's the Adirondacks, not Hilton Head

  • 5 of 5

I love both places, for their own reasons. This place is absolutely wonderful for a mountain getawayfromitallandrelaxwithnowristwatch kind of week. Star Lake is another world altogether, and the house is unique, comfortable (but,as it says--rustic) pet friendly, and big. I felt like I spent a week in 1953. But remember, not Hilton Head. Few restaurants, few amenities in town--tho there is a neat little golf course right there--, no shopping. It's just a place to relax, kayak, have campfires, fish, swim, have campfires, let the dog run in the water, cruise the sandbar, have campfires, sleep out in the lean-to, and next thing you know it's Saturday and Feets (the awesome octogenarian former pilot whose family has owned this place for 100+ years caretaker) shows up in his way cool dilapidated pickup truck from the 1960s to take the key back and you're sad to leave but as soon as you get home you check VRBO to see about next year. The house is NOT luxurious--be forewarned. But I don't see that as a negative. And anyway we were never inside. My wife is a slight slight bit less charitable re: the "rusticness" but she's from the city and anyway she says she'd go back too. Oh and one more super important thing. My 2 teenagers, Boy/Girl, have fabulous memories and were completely OURS for a whole week! Adirondacks Rock!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review and we are glad you enjoyed your stay overall. We agree and think you hit it all on the head... visiting Star Lake is like going back in time. It's one of those rare places that never changes....which has it's pros and cons. We try to strike a balance of keeping up with the times just enough to make it comfortable (internet, cable TV, fairly updated bathroom) while maintaining that "life in the 1800's" feel of simpler, slower times spent just enjoying nature and family. We are pleased that your family experienced just that!

Great property and privacy.....

  • 5 of 5

This property was fantastic. Was excited to be allowed to take my dog. The huge property gave him room to run and swim. The lean-to was great. The girls slept outside a few nights.

Morning walks down the peninsula were great. Views of awesome. Lake was crystal clear.

Only possible downside could be that it truly is away from it all. Quite away. Essentials are nearby but activities require a lengthy drive. But I loved being away from it all relax.

Owners were friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back.
