Sharon Lassila purchased this cottage in 1990
This cabin has all the comforts of home and located on the Western half of Fall Lake where canoeing, kayaking and motor boats are allowed. The Eastern half of Fall Lake is inside the BWCAW which only allows canoeing! United States Forest Service permits are REQUIRED to enter the other half of the lake. www.USFS.gov or contact the local office in Ely.
The semi private yard is lush with green trees! Ducks and loons swim in the bay! And it's fun to catch fish near shore! BBQ and campfire!! BluesFest and Watercross Snowmobile Event in August! Harvest Moon Festival weekend after Labor Day. Fall Colors in September and October!!
Perfect get away! Peaceful, charcoal grill (all the stuff you need provided!), nice setup inside, really enjoyed it! Only negatives I'd say is that some supplies were missing (i.e. no salt) and the bed wasn't the most comfortable (take it with a grain of salt though because I always say that wherever we go). But nothing to seriously complain about. There is even a selection of a bunch of VHS movies! We watched Forest Gump and the Flintstones! We'd highly recommend coming here! Best thing about it by far was walking onto the dock at sunrise and watching the sun dissipate the mist from off the lake. So beautiful! You should come!
Truly enjoyed our stay. Sharon the host was very accommodating and cabin was very cozy and clean. We took advantage of the row boat and the dock. Wonderful time watching the Vikings beat the Packers on Sunday night at The Winton Roadhouse. Hiked and just truly reveled in the Up North feel!!
I was so busy right after getting back from this beautiful place that I couldn't leave a review right away. My parents and I were seeking for a place to just relax for few days near the BWCA and this cabin was just perfect. The cabin is small and looks a bit old from outside when you first see it. However when you get inside of it, you will see that this cabin is all you need. It is a clean and cozy place for up to 4+ people. There are also some fun stuff that you can do inside of the cabin after the dark.( 90's movies, board games and books) Everything is ready if you are up for having some barbecue party with the great view of the Fall lake during the sunset. There is also a little boat that you can have a short boat ride in the Fall lake. The host, Sharon, was so caring that she not only prepared the cabin for us so much but also helped us a lot when we asked for little stuff. I would love to stay there once more if time allows!
We had an absolutely wonderful time! The cabin was totally spotless when we got there, ready for relaxing. Wonderful view of the lake, far away enough from town to be quiet, but still only minutes from anything you may need. If you are looking for wifi and satellite tv this is not the cabin for you. This cabin is for unwinding, unplugging, and spending quality time with friends and family. Sharon was a perfect hostess and communicated with us throughout the entire process. Hats off to her and the hard work she must put into maintaining such a great stay. We would definitely recommend this property, and would be thrilled to go back again!
Absolutely amazing lake! Simply gorgeous! Cabin is a classic and as you might expect, small, but clean. The bedroom has a queen and two bunk beds and the "daybed" is a great fourth bed so could easily sleep a couple and three others, but again, tight quarters. The cabin is truly only for sleeping because there is plenty of space to be outside and the outdoors do not disappoint. Plenty of eagles, loons, fish to be seen. The town of Ely is a short drive with plenty of great restaurants and a "small town" feel. Enjoy!
Outside grounds and cabin were well maintained. Bonfire pit is handy and wood is stacked neatly near the pit. Inside of the cabin had everything you need for the most part. Don't be expecting 5 star amenities but that's not the point of going near the BWCA. Only things that I would recommend for improvement is the bathroom window screen is missing. It would have been nice to be able to open that window without bugs coming in. And as advertised, there was indeed charcoal for the grill but it wasn't enough to really cook with. We went back into town and picked up a bag. While our fishing experience wasn't the greatest, it was also the heat of the summer when fishing generally isn't great. At the end of the day, we fully intend to return. It is a relaxing spot and is near anything you want to see in Ely area.
