Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday chateau / country house in Siena - Borgo dei fondi

Two nice apartments with 3 units for 13 sleeps

Very nice farmhouse of the end of 1700 (already surveyed in the first cadastre of the Granducato of Tuscany in 1812) consists of two apartments with independent entrance and well separated, “La Loggia” and “Il Forno”.

Furthermore , the apartment "Il Forno" is divided on two floors (first floor and ground floor), each with separate entrance and can be rented either all together (the first floor and ground floor) or separately. The ground floor is recently built (2015) and is equipped both air conditioning and dishwasher.

All apartments are furnished with great care and respect for Tuscan tradition, with characteristic wooden beamed ceilings. The villa is located in a beautiful location in the heart of Montagnola, a beautiful hilly and wooded zone declared "Site of Importance" by the European Community (EC), only 10 km and few minutes drive from the center of Siena and is located in close proximity of the famous "Via Francigena", (the old road that pilgrims of northern Europe were to go to Rome and that crosses the whole of Tuscany all the Tuscan way has been recently mapped ) with the possibility of beautiful walks starting directly from the house. Ideal for those who want a peaceful holiday and relaxation. Outer space, a real park bigger than 3 acres, allowing guests to each apartment to be able to isolate in perfect tranquility and enjoy in a "heart space", also includes a nice pool whose use is restricted to guests, with chairs and umbrellas, as well as tables and chairs. Very quiet and relaxing, ideal for families or groups of friends who want to maintain their privacy.

Beautiful Countryside. Good Price. Nice Choice Ov

  • 3 of 5

We appreciated the beautiful property of Borgo de Fondi. We stayed in the La Loggia apartment area with our 3 teenage children. It was a nice visit and a nice accommodation. We found a walking trail that led us on a very interesting exploration of the area. The pool was beautiful and the beds were comfortable. The price was right and overall it was a very nice stay. Vittoria and her father are lovely and genuinely welcomed us to have a good stay. We met up with them in Siena so that we could follow them to the property. They do not live there, so once you arrive, you are on your own. The signage to the location is very unclear and even the GPS coordinates in a GPS are unclear. Our GPS directed us to the location by taking up a dirt road that is impassable, so we were on the right road, but unable to drive to the property from that part of the road. I would say that the main reason to choose this property would be price combined with the rural countryside feel. We did have to drive for everything, and expected that would be the case. I wish we would have known that the rooms at La Loggia are very dark. The photos on the website are beautiful and brightly lit, but in reality, they are quite dark. The water in the kitchen runs through a filter that is difficult to control. The bathroom is tiny and old, so it helped to remember that we were in a very rural area and paying a fair price. It was a bit difficult for us to be in such a rural area without anyone onsite to provide direction in person. Overall, it's a pretty property, very dark inside, and very rural, but it's a good price and beautiful countryside.

Owner's Response: We thank our guests for the nice review and our response is just to point out two things that seem important to us and that, certainly,we were not capable to well explain before. The first thing about the water : the water in the house, which does not pass by any filter, is the same water of the city of Siena, absolutely secure and considered one of the best waters of Tuscany. The second thing is about the roads and GPS: our house is on the border between the two municipalities and can be reached, in fact, from both municipalities. Most GPS indicates - correctly - the main road which it comes from Siena (which is also the shortest) other GPS systems, we do not know why, sometimes, indicate the other one , that is the road coming from Sovicille which, in effect , it is not very smooth. In order to avoid this , we usually give our guest, before their arrival, very specific directions that, obviously, this time there were not so helpful and we apologize for that.

Perfect Place in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

We had an incredible visit in Tuscany, and found this wonderful farmhouse to be the perfect combination of romantic seclusion, and a home base for spectacular Tuscan destinations. Sienna is beautiful (and much less crowded than Florence) and is a very short drive. Day trips to the Chianti region and beautiful towns like Montepulchiano are fabulous (having a GPS is key and makes this navigation easy). Florence and Pisa are easy day trips as well. David and his family were the perfect hosts with great personal attention - we really enjoyed getting to know the family, and they took great care of us. Highly recommended and we can't wait to come back!

Wonderful Place

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough about the wonderful villa and our hosts. It was a magical place to stay. The property was everything I had dreamed about when I decided to come to Italy/Tuscany. The owners were very helpful in giving us tips and directions and the place itself was fantastic, surrounded by gardens and greenery. The villa was furnished with antiques of high quality and the beds were so comfortable. The owners felt like family. I miss them already. I have already recommended this to 2 of my friends. I will definitely come back here when I return. I am already planning on my next trip back.

Tuscan bliss

  • 5 of 5

If you are wanting a typically Tuscan experience for a very reasonable rental Borgo de Fondi is definitely the perfect place. While it has no 'bells and whistles' it is comfortable and charming, in an idyllic hilly woodland setting of great beauty and serenity. We occupied both apartments (5 and 2) and while we 5 were a little envious of the smaller apartment's swish kitchen, we loved our apartment. Davis and Simona were friendly, charming and informative hosts, welcoming us with wine and nibbles and checking with us during the week to make sure all was well. While this property seems isolated, it isn't! We went straight to it with a GPS, it very easy to get to Siena (we drove in twice for dinner), and it is centrally located for easy access to many lovely Tuscan towns. It is the perfect place for just chilling out, walking, or sightseeing. Hopefully next time we go it will be warm enough for us to go swimming in the beautiful pool?

Where do you live?

Nice, but...

  • 3 of 5

Lovely apartment, setting if you want solitude, close to Siena by car. BUT... this was not really as advertised. This home is about 10km off the main road, almost 2km up a dirt/gravel road with no signage. Very difficult to find, no GPS will find this house until you've already arrived. The host and his daughter were mostly very nice, gave us map of area, and tips on restaurants and location, but we and the others staying here had alot of difficulty finding it (they had to come get us in Monteriggioni and the other people circled for 3 hours). Then wanted us to park around back of property when front was far more convenient. You have only limited grace amount to use for heat/hot water and would be charged extra if you went over, gave us a hard time about an extra person they weren't expecting, and had to meet with them again to return the deposit. Seemed like alot of hassle to be in the middle of nowhere.

Owner's Response: We always appreciate suggestions and criticisms of our customers because they really help us to improve our offer and in this case too we will treasure the suggestions, but we think it is necessary to clarify some things : the house is at the end of a dirt road (1.7 miles) along which there are 11 among houses and villas, this road is well signposted and is easily findable by most GPS, but being a country road, GPS not indicates exactly house numbers and that is why we always provide our guests, prior to their arrival (and in this case it was done), the exact details to be entered into the GPS, together the Google Maps coordinates and our phone numbers, asking the cell phone numbers of the guests, just to avoid any misunderstanding. The house is about 12 km (less then 20 minutes drive), not from the main road, but even from the center of Siena ! It 'really ungenerous to say that we are in the middle of nowere. As far as the parking lot, it is true, it is more convenient to park in front of the house, and that is what is always allowed when the two apartments are occupied by the same group, but when the groups are different, we kindly ask both to park in the lot behind the house (25 meters away ), this will enable everyone to have the right peace and tranquility, of course it is always allowed the loading and unloading. About our consumption policy, all it's very simple : "Prices include water, gas and electricity They do not include the cost of gas for heating, - calculated consumption - and the cost of firewood for the stove." So I do not understand why the counts on consumption, it was ( it is, and it will be) all inclusive. Finally, the person who came later. Of what we had not been warned and, perhaps it does not consider that we are required, by law, to inform the competent authorities .the generality of our guests, and if we dont we can incur fines or penalties. However, all this will be an incentive for us to communicate more and better with our customers to ensure that their holiday is, indeed, a beautiful holiday.

A true rustic Tuscan house. Insects as well as poor lighting are negatives.

The property is located 10 min / car from the center of Siena, nestled in the beautiful countryside of Montagnola. It is the ideal starting point to visit places of historic interest and scenic as Volterra, San Gimignano, Pienza, Montalcino, which are all within easy reach, as well as the cities of Florence, Arezzo and Pisa.

Beautiful trails, from Siena to visit the Chianti and the Crete Senesi in tours that combine unforgettable views to the best of Italian food and wine. The Tuscan coast with its most beautiful places as Castiglione della Pescaia or Argentario, is 1 hour by car. Siena is the city of the Palio, which is really an experience to live, but not only that, there are many, in fact, shows and especially artistic and musical events throughout the year mean that your holiday remains memorable .

But the real question is : "and if, instead of going around, I stay to tan by the pool?"
